Michael S. Trenkamp

Michael S. “Mike” Trenkamp, 59, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, due to complications from a brain aneurysm.

Michael Stephen Trenkamp was born on December 1, 1965 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Stephen Bernard and Doris Jean (Scheckel) Trenkamp.  He was a 1984 graduate of Preston High School.

Mike’s personal life was marked by love and devotion. He was blessed with three children from a previous marriage: Matthew, Andrew, and Heather. Each of them carried a piece of their father’s heart and spirit. On May 3, 2008, Mike married the love of his life, Katherine Elizabeth Hamrick Maddy, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, IA.

Professionally, Mike was the proud owner and operator of Mike’s Outdoor and Tree Service in Maquoketa since 1994. His work ethic and expertise also led him to a role as an ultrasonic inspector for Arconic (formerly Alcoa) in Davenport, where he had been employed since 2003. Mike’s dedication to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family and his faith.

Music has always been an important part of the Trenkamp family.  For many years Mike had been an active participant in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church choir and enjoyed playing the guitar with family and friends during the holidays.  An avid outdoorsman, Mike relished in going on ATV/UTV rides, fishing, and simply being in nature. His hands were rarely still, as he enjoyed tinkering in his shop, working on vehicles and equipment. Yet, it was his family that brought him greatest joy. Mike’s happiest moments were those spent doing anything his grandchildren desired.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kathy Trenkamp of Maquoketa, IA; children, Matthew (Kenna) Trenkamp of Trenton, IL, Andrew Trenkamp of Davenport, IA, and Heather (Matthew) Bopes of Ankeny, IA; step-daughter, Tina (Rob) Bryant of Marion, IA; 5 grandchildren, Camie, Connor, Cayson, Prescott, and Teagan; his parents, Stephen and Doris Trenkamp of Preston, IA; sisters, Marilyn (Brad) Marvin of Bellevue, IA, Carolyn (Clifford) Grant of Miles, IA, Christine (Skott) Gent of Monmouth, IA, and Jennifer (Heath) Barrette of Woodstock, IL; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa.  A visitation celebrating Mike’s life will be held from 3 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Preston, Iowa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Michael S. “Mike” Trenkamp memorial fund has been established.
