Patrick J. Conlon, 85, of Dubuque, passed away on July 30, 2026, at home, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday August 4, 2026, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road, Dubuque. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30a.m., Wednesday August 5, 2026, at St. Raphael Cathedral with Rev. Gary Mayer officiating. Pat was born on March 23, 1941, to Orlin and Suzanne (Mulgrew) Conlon in Dubuque, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Cathy (Stock) Conlon on October 5, 1984.

Pat graduated from the Loras Academy, Loras College and Mount St. Bernard Seminary where he earned a master’s degree in theology and philosophy.  He continued further graduate studies at the United States International University in San Diego, California.

Upon returning from California, Pat directed Youth Services for the City of Dubuque. Later, he served as the Dean of Students at Clarke University. Preceding his retirement in 2014, he served as the Director of Pastoral Care at Mercy Hospital.

Pat was truly at home in nature, and especially cherished hiking at the Mines of Spain and Swiss Valley. His ability to connect deeply with people – one to one fed his friends, old and new. An active listener, his empathy and encouragement left others feeling both heard and seen. He also possessed a contagious humor.

Pat loved to play golf–but only at his own pace. He was never in a hurry and often tested the patience of his playing partners. While he loved to tell others to play faster, he wasn’t one to take his own advice.  After retirement, Pat played pickleball and introduced Cathy to the game. They formed many dear friendships with “The Tuesday night group”.

Pat was proud of being the oldest of the Orlin and Suzanne Conlon clan. His brothers and sisters brought him great joy. In his final days, they provided strong, loving support and shared many memories. His greatest life joy was being the stay-at-home dad of John and Will, whom he launched into a close brotherhood, bonding in their love of the Hawkeyes, White Sox and the Chicago Bears. He treasured the time spent with his grandson Benjamin, most notably attending Kinder Music, which fostered Benjamin’s love of guitar and percussion. Pat was the biggest fan of the Wee Lads.

Pat is survived by his wife, Cathy; his sons John Conlon, Will (Mariya) Conlon, and grandson, Benjamin Waters; siblings, Steve (Lorrie) Conlon, Julie (Mike) Wilson, Tim (Christine) Conlon, Phil (Susan) Conlon, Fred Conlon, Suzie (Richard) Henry; father and mother in-law, Jim and Mary Catherine Stock. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ellen (Melvin) Rose.

Pat’s family wishes to extend a most heartfelt thank you to Dr. Benjamin Roling, Dr. Honorio Caceres, Dr. Mark Moore, Dr. Eric Engelman, the oncology nurses, and the staff at Stonehill Care Center, Tanya with 24 Hour Care, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Angela and Amy, for their remarkable care.

Memorials may be given to the Friends of the Mines of Spain or Hospice of Dubuque.
