Patsy A. Grutz
Patsy Anne Grutz, 83, of Dubuque, passed away at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road, Dubuque, where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Rev. Karen Candee will officiate. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery at a later date.
Patsy was born on November 4, 1942, in Dubuque, the daughter of William and Pearl (Wilson) Nank. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School with the Class of 1961. She was a member of the Dubuque Women’s Bowling Association 600 Club and worked in housekeeping at Finley Hospital, where she truly loved her work and coworkers.
Patsy dedicated many hours to volunteering at The Barn Community Theatre and the Grand Opera House. In recognition of her contributions, she was inducted into the Grand Opera House Hall of Fame in 2003. She also volunteered for many years at the Finley Family Holiday Meal, where she was fondly known as the “craft room lady.” Each year, for over 20 years, and even after her retirement, Patsy lovingly created and shared handmade Christmas ornaments with her colleagues at Finley Hospital. We are blessed to know that her handiwork will grace Christmas trees in departments across the hospital for years to come, keeping memories of mom, and her kind, giving spirit alive.
She was a devoted mother to her three wonderful sons and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Patsy had a joyful, childlike spirit that never faded—she was deeply loved by all who knew her.
Patsy is survived by her son, Robert (Kelly Derby) Grutz of Dubuque; his daughter, Shelbi Pearl (A.J.) Bedessem, and their children, Haven Pearl and Hailey Jo; and Kelly’s children, Shawn (Jenna), Dan (Cassie), and Emily (Max), along with their children, Bennett, Quinn, Everly, Baker, and Beau. She is also survived by her son, Chris (Kari) Grutz of East Dubuque, Illinois, and their children, Marisa (Austin) Cook, Elizabeth Mae Grutz, and Ethan (Becca) Gaulke and their son, Cooper. Additional survivors include her grandchildren Randy, Danny, and Gage Grutz and their families; her sister-in-law, Donna Nank of Lafayette, Indiana, and her family; as well as many dear cousins and friends. She is also survived by her Grandpup Sunny, her daily companion and snuggle buddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Patrick Grutz; her brother, William Nank; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Patsy and her family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Lenny, Ron, and Roger from Hartig; Angela, Michelle, Ashley, and Melody from Hospice of Dubuque; and Dr. Ben Kumor for their kindness and care.
