He was born June 28, 1941, in Dubuque to Joseph and Margaret (Fransen) Dimmer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He married Ruth Bellings August 5, 1964.
Paul was a man known and loved for many roles- brother, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend- but above all, he was a devoted husband. Paul met the love of his life, Ruth, when they were both young, beginning a lifelong journey filled with adventure, love, and unwavering partnership. Together, they raised four wonderful children, took many memorable road trips, and built a home that they both loved.
Paul was a skilled craftsman and co-founded Dimmer Brothers construction with his brother, Lyle. He took great pride in his work and found enjoyment in creating or fixing things. Outside of work, Paul’s greatest joys came from the outdoors, and time spent with his family. He loved hunting with his sons, fishing from his boat, and making lasting memories with those he loved most. Family was the heart of Paul’s life. He had a special gift for making people laugh, feel supported, and most importantly, loved. Anyone who met Paul walked away with a lasting memory of their time spent with him – and if you were fortunate enough, you had many moments. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the love he shared.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; his children, Joe (Joan Heber) Dimmer, Kelly (John) Thoma, Rob (Sara) Dimmer, Heather (Todd) Urbain; grandchildren, Joey, Jennifer, Jared, and Hayden (Jayse) Dimmer, Jennifer (Josh), Stephanie, Angel (Stephen), Johnny, and Nikki Thoma, Kayci (Cole), and Erin Dimmer, Alicia (Codey), Lucy (Kalib), and Molly Urbain; 15 great grandchildren; siblings Shirley, Janise (Tom), Janaan, and Rick (Mary Jane); siblings-in-law, Anaruth, Sheila, Joye, Mary Jo, Marsha (Dick), Timmy (Kym), Alan (Cindy), Roger (Cindy), Nancy, Holly, Brian, and Randy (Deb); along with many nieces and nephews.
