Phillips G. Mathews
Phillip “Phil” G. Mathews of Dubuque, Iowa (formerly of Bernard, Iowa), passed away at the age of 90 on September 3rd, 2026, at Harmony in Dubuque.
According to his wishes, no public services will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family.
Phil was born on May 4, 1936, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of David J. Mathews and Julia M. Breiner. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Parkison on September 27, 1972.
Phil was a hard worker, who started his own logging business, Mathew’s Logging, when he was a young man. He dedicated his life to his business and his family.
Phil is survived by his daughter, Kaylen (Don) Daugherty and ex-daughter-in-law Bobbi (Jesse) Flanagan; five step-children, Beverly (Mark) Ernzen, Gwendolyn (Mark) Griswold, Theresa (Cary) Brock, and Johanna (Dan) Creger; step-daughter-in-law, Julie Enloe; grandchildren Amanda Mathews and Phillip Mathews; step-grandchildren, Candice (Scott) Chaloupka, Tracy (Ken) Fonck, Phillip (April) Kelley, Tabitha (Larry) Ikonomopoulos, Tiffanee (Trevor) McArthur, Brittany Kress, Cody (Hannah) Creger, Nissa Enloe, Karissa Enloe, Tala Enloe, Angie (Aaron) Schwenker, Andrina (Chris) Timmons, Chuck (Alicia) Brock and Carl Brock. Phil was blessed with many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his father David Mathews; his mother and step-father, Julia and Alfred Hedley; his son Wesley Mathews, his step-son Dennis Enloe, and his granddaughter Tracy Daughtery.
