Phyllis A. Emmons, 87, of Monticello, Iowa and formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

Per her request there will be no public services at this time.  A celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Chicago, Illinois.  The Reiff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Phyllis was born October 24, 1938 in Chicago, Il, daughter of Harold and Gladys Berninger.  On March 22, 1958 she was united in marriage to Gerald Emmons in Chicago.  He preceded her in death in 2010.

She was the sweetest and funniest mother and grandmother.  She was always taking care of others, which is why everyone who knew her loved her.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles and her coffee.

She was an Avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, she had hoped to see the Cubs win another World Series.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Kenneth (Ruth) Emmons of Aurora, IL, Michael (Sue) Emmons of Monticello, IA, Carolyn (Ken) Williams of Lake in the Hills, IL and Patti (Brian) Felton of Monticello, IA; her grandchildren, Kimberly Ness, Robert (Eileen) Tretina, Patrick (Sydney) Tretina, Melani (Matthew) Flanagan, Kelli (Donnie) Ross, Corie (Adam Benavidez, Alexis Egan, Tanner (Alyssa) Felton, Tyler Felton, Gianna Felton, Trevor (Emily) Williams and Melissa (Robert Williams; 17 great grandchildren; two siblings, Harvey Berninger of Huntly, IL, and Patti Kieffer of Westmont, IL.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, Shirley, Harold and Vivian.
