Richard E. Kohl Jr., age 57, of Dubuque, passed away at 1:34 p.m., on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at MercyOne Dubuque with his family at his side.  To celebrate Richard’s life, family and friends may visit from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.  Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., on Monday, with Deacon John Stierman officiating.  Military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Richard was born on June 14, 1964, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Richard and Judith (Nelson) Kohl Sr.

Richard was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.  After graduation, he honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy until the birth of his daughter, Ashley.  He was married to Vivian Armbruster, but she sadly passed away on January 3, 1999.  He was employed at Morrison Brothers until he was forced into early retirement due to health issues.  In his free time, Richard enjoyed spending time outside, whether it be working in the yard or at his favorite fishing hole hoping to land “the big one”.  He also enjoyed trying his luck at the casino hoping to win a big jackpot.  He was a jokester who loved to tease his family and friends.  Richard especially loved being with his family, and there was no doubt that his granddaughter was the apple of his eye.  He was a kind hearted man who always did all he could to help those around him.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, Robert Charles “Chuck” Kohl and Larry Dean “Kimberly Marie” Kohl.

Richard’s family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff at MercyOne Dubuque for all of their kindness and compassionate care of Richard.
