Richard L. Schnoor

Richard L. Schnoor, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 8, 2025.

Richard Lee Schnoor was born on February 16, 1933, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Emil and Daisy (Sanger) Schnoor.  He was a 1950 graduate of Maquoketa High School.  He then served his country in the U.S. Army earning an honorable discharge.  He married Lois Ringen on January 23, 1954, in Jefferson City, Missouri.  Two children were born to this union, Ryan, and Rodney.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Richard returned home to Iowa and worked briefly for Clinton Engines and Don Schwenker, before purchasing and cultivating his own farm north of Maquoketa. There, he raised club calves and Maine-Anjou and Shorthorn influenced cattle with a deep sense of pride and commitment to excellence, achieving recognition among his peers and the community he served. He and Lois prided themselves in raising quality cattle that would succeed in the showring including multiple national champions, specifically two steers for their grandchildren.

Aside from his agricultural pursuits, Richard was a valued member of several organizations. He served on the Zoning Board of Adjustments and was an active member of the Iowa Cattlemen and the Jackson County Cattlemen. His contributions to the industry were celebrated with his induction into the Jackson County Cattlemen Hall of Fame in 2013, a testament to his dedication and influence within the cattle industry in Jackson County.

Richard’s interests reached beyond his agricultural achievements. An avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he also found joy in his Blue Heeler dogs and the simple pleasures of fishing and hunting. Above all, his greatest happiness came from the laughter and stories shared with his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lois Schnoor of Maquoketa, IA; sons, Ryan Schnoor of Ham Lake, MN, and Rodney (Sheery) Schnoor of Maquoketa, IA; 2 grandchildren, Ashley (James) Johnson of Maquoketa, IA, and Doug (Kara) Schnoor of Maquoketa, IA; 5 great-grandchildren, Ty, Lane and Addie Johnson, and Kennedy and Harrison Schnoor; and a sister-in-law, Janet Hindley of Clinton, IA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Maxine Frick, Virginia Wilson, and Mildred Kopp, in-laws, Vera and Donald Scheibe, and Chuck Hindley.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, September 15, 2025, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  A private funeral service will be held.  Burial with military honors will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Richard Lee Schnoor memorial fund or Hospice of Jackson County.
