Roger J. Scholtes
Roger “Shiney” J. Scholtes, 88, of Bellevue passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Monday, October 28, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Family will greet friends 9:00 am – 10:30 am prior to Mass at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Burial with Military Honors conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post #273 will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.
Roger was born October 24, 1935, the son of Floyd and Leora (Sturm) Scholtes. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. Roger worked for Clinton Engines, John Deere Works Dubuque, owned and operated the Bronco in Bellevue for over 25 years, following the Bronco he worked for Happy Joes and Benders before retiring.
He enjoyed going on bus trips to Chicago Cubs baseball games, playing cards, a jokester, enjoyed eating out, and was a friend to everyone. Roger and Shirley were active in the Jackson County Humane Society and enjoyed traveling the country in their RV during the summer. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children, Kim (Scott) Sheldon, Kevin (Kristie Culver) Scholtes, Rick Scholtes, and Mark (Shannon) Scholtes; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Louann Scheckel, and LaVonne Kueter; sister in-law, Betty Scholtes, a brother in-law, Jerry Schroeder; special friends, Dave Clark and Betty Michels; numerous nieces and nephews; and his puppy, Shea.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; siblings and in-laws, Lorin Scholtes, Janet Schroeder, Leonard (Becky) Scholtes, Gene Scholtes, Donald Scheckel, Ronald Kueter; his and Shirley’s special puppies, Andi, Gracie, Mia, Samantha, Yogi, Furgie, Louie.
