Ronald was born on November 23, 1960, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Gayland and Beverly (Becker) Johnson. Ron’s father Gayland passed away at a young age, he was fortunate to gain a stepfather, William White who then lovingly raised Ron. He attended Hoover Elementary, George Washington Middle School, Stephen Hempstead High School, and the University of Iowa. He went on to work as a computer technician.

Ron was a gentle unassuming man with a rare gift for making others smile, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed paths with him. A good day for him would include working on computers and catching a Cubs or Packers game, whichever was in season. Of course, he would always have his chips and Diet Pepsi handy. He loved getting together with family for Christmas and birthdays, especially if it included any sort of sweets. Ron’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, but his spirit will continue to inspire us to show empathy and kindness. His memory will always be a blessing, because as he said you’re a good soul.

Ron is survived by his sisters Vicki Laufenberg and Kathy (Steve) Jaeger; nephews Ed (Jenifer) Pickel and Tony Pickel; nieces Sarah (Ben) Biver and Katie (Josh) Malli; great nieces and nephews Jacob Biver (fiancé Halie Ristau), Shawn and Derek Biver, Olivia Lang, and Avery Pickel, and uncle AJ (Kim) Becker.

He was preceded in death by his mother Beverly White, his father Gayland Johnson, and stepfather William White; brothers Jay and Donald, brother-in-law Randy Laufenberg, his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tom Schreiber, Julie Ivanov PA-C, and the nursing staff at Luther Manor Hillcrest. Your care and compassion throughout the years have been unmatched, and we are forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, a Ronald Johnson Memorial Fund has been established.
