Ryan M. Steil

Ryan M. Steil, 37, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of LaMotte, passed away in his sleep due to heart issues on April 9, 2025, in Albuquerque.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with a sharing time at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery in LaMotte.

Ryan was born on August 26, 1987, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, the son of Keenan and Beverly (Shanahan) Steil. He graduated from Andrew High School, class of 2005. He then went on to attend Kirkwood Community College.

He worked for Roadie, doing delivery service for local pharmacies. He enjoyed visiting with the elderly and would help them at their homes and with errands. In high school, Ryan was a member of TAG, quiz bowl, team spelling, he organized a trip to Acapulco with his Spanish class during his junior year and was also a part of the golf and baseball teams.

Ryan loved the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Steelers and Iowa Hawkeyes. Growing up he spent many hours helping Grandpa Art, Kevin and Derek on the farm.  The best part was lunch at Circle C and Papa’s. The worst part was making fence. Ryan and Grandpa Art also had a paper route together for the whole town of LaMotte. Ryan and Derek would go out for supper at least twice a week with Grandma and Grandpa Art. He enjoyed going to the spring at the Steil farm, and fishing at Waller’s with Grandpa Jerry and Derek.  and watching the Cubs Games at the Walnut Tap. He loved the 4th of July in LaMotte. Ryan loved spending time with Derek and Emma “Scrubber” especially watching Cubs games and movies.  He loved all his friends and cherished the friendship with Bryan Bertling and Austin Ambrosy. Bev will miss his daily phone calls that ended with “I love you ma, tell Derek and Scrubber I love them”

Ryan is survived by his mother Beverly (Jerome) Gaul; his father Keenan (Sue) Steil; siblings: Derek (Angel) Steil and Emma (Andrew Bean) Steil; his fiancé Devina Gonzales; nieces/nephews: Isaac, Josh, Jaleb, Caanan, Brantley, Riley, Maddie, Logan, Cammie, Kayla, Emmy, Trevan, Trent, Harlee, and Ryker; aunts/uncles: Laura Heiken, Kevin (Karen) Capesius, Glen Shanahan, Linda Shanahan, Terry (Sue) Steil, Kevin (Karen) Steil, Dion Steil, Darren (Jenny) Steil; step-siblings: Kyle (Kelsey) Gaul, Jess (Kelly) Gaul, Justin Gaul, Jeremy (Nichole) Teasdale, Chrissy (Rusty) Teasdale, and Jesse (Jackie) Bell.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Allan Shanahan, Art and Carol Capesius, Jerry and Gloria Steil; stepbrother Dan Teasdale; and Charlie, his golden retriever and his fish “Garfield” he had for over 12 years.

The family would like to thank Kristin and Eddie and everyone at Leonard Funeral Home along with Riverside Funeral Home in Albuquerque for all the guidance, care and compassion they showed.
