Sandra was born July 26, 1941, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Clarence Patrick and Marjorie (Schmitz) Hayes. On January 14, 1961, she married Michael C. Wagner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2014.

Sandy was always full of energy. She played volleyball and was on a bowling league, Tuesday was ladies day for skiing. She also enjoyed long walks, water walking, camping, cross stitching, and sewing. Sandra absolutely loved going to the Mississippi Abbey for Monday night mass and for a long time attended Power of Prayer every Wednesday at 10 am. She and her husband, Mike, loved sponsoring individuals and families through Catholic Charities. After Mike retired they bought a cabin on Lake Delhi in the early 90’s and they loved spending time there. And don’t forget Wicky Wacky. The whole family loved it there! It’s almost certain that the entire cabin was furnished with treasures found from Wicky Wacky, she sure loved a good bargain. Don’t forget, she was always 29!

Survivors include her five children, Mark (Laurie) Wagner of Dubuque, Jeff (Nila) Wagner of Dubuque, Mary Beth (Paul) Olson of Dubuque, Scott (Tricia) Wagner of Dubuque, and Anne Marie (Tim Durkin) Wagner of Newtown, CT; 15 grandchildren, Josh (Tiffany), Jayson (Tara), Kyle, and Aiden Wagner, Shawn (Jenna), Daniel (Cassie) and Emily (Max Potter), Ellen (Mark Mohr), Claire, and Amanda Olson, Adam and Sophia Wagner, Ethan, Julia, and Erik Lindblom; eight great-grandchildren, Lucy, Lyla, and Kye Wagner, Bennett, Everly, Quinn, and Baker Wagner and Beau Potter; one brother, Ronnie (Donna) Hayes of Dubuque; one sister, Kathy (Thomas) Arensdorf of Eldridge; several nieces and nephews; and her VW “bug” car.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Kenny, and three sisters; Ruth Auer, Patty Gatewood, and Sherry Reinelt.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Catholic Charities.

The family thanks the staff at Stonehill Care Center, Hospice of Dubuque, and the friends and family that have visited and supported her through this journey.

Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory is in care of the arrangements.
