Shirley A. Hunt, 62, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Sunnycrest Manor in Dubuque, Iowa.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church (New Melleray) Peosta, Iowa. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Martin Obeng presiding.  Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

She was born on November 27, 1963, in Monticello, Iowa, daughter of David J. and Rita M. (Ernzen) Hunt.  She is a 1982 graduate of Western Dubuque High School in Epworth, Iowa.  She then attended Denison Job Corps where she received her certification as a CNA.  She worked at several nursing homes as a CNA in the Cedar Rapids area.  When she went to Sunnycrest Manor, she used her computer skills to help at the nursing home.   She volunteered within the home and was the best advocate possible for all the residents, helping them to receive their maximum benefits.  She also volunteered at the Red Cross and for other organizations in the Dubuque area.

She did with very little for most of her life, yet she was so appreciative of all she had and could do, especially for others.  She loved to play cards, her favorite was Euchre, she also enjoyed many board games.

She was so proud of being the recipient of the Volunteer of the year award.  She loved to visit with family and friends and was quick to slip in her “Little One Liners”, to catch all off guard and make them laugh.

She is survived by her mother, Rita Hunt of Newton, IA; her four siblings, Roger (Tammy) Hunt of Des Moines, Lloyd Hunt of New York, Don (Laura) Hunt of Derby and Lois (Rich) Holmes of Grinnell; four nieces, Samantha, Courtney, Jamie and Payton; her godparents, Ralph Hunt and Geraldine Ernzen.

She is preceded in death by her father, David J. Hunt on January 24, 2025; a sister, Gloria Marie in infancy; her grandparents, Clarence and Clara Ernzen and John and Marcella Hunt.
