Shirley Hanley, 91, died Monday, November 20, 2023, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 25, at the Church of the Resurrection, Rev. Phil Gibbs will officiate. The funeral will be livestreamed at www.egelhofsiegertcasper.com. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road is entrusted with the arrangements.
Shirley was born on March 17, 1932, in Wesley, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Ohmes) Lickteig. She married Farrell “Frank” Hanley on June 26, 1954, in Wesley, Iowa.
Shirley graduated from Nursing School in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a nurse at the VA Hospital in Iowa City before she began her nursing career at Mercy, Dubuque.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.
Shirley is survived by her children, Patricia “Patty” (Thomas) Kopp, of Dubuque, Dan (Michele) Hanley, of Normal, Illinois, Kate (John) Mayer, of Algona, Iowa, Sue (Matt) Stammeyer, of Dewitt, Iowa and Jeff (Laurie) Hanley, of Dubuque; a daughter-in-law, Mary Hanley, of Rochester, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Mike, and Jon (in infancy); siblings, Urban, Edna, Dennis, Don, Carmel, Jack, Ann and Jerry; and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Howard) Wagner.
A Shirley Hanley Memorial Fund has been established where donations will be distributed to her favorite charities.
Shirley’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her primary doctor, Dr. Andrea Ries, the staff at Stonehill Care Center and the Palliative Care Team and the Hospice Care Team at Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care.
