Sister Helen (Francine) Nelson, OSF, 80, of Dubuque, died Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Clare House, Mount St. Francis, Dubuque.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024. Guests unable to attend may participate via livestream at: www.youtube.com/dubuquefranciscans. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.

Sister Helen was born on March 25, 1944 in Goldsboro, NC, the daughter of George and Marie (Kuker) Nelson.

Sister Helen entered the Sisters of St. Francis on September 3, 1962 and made final profession of vows on August 12, 1970. Sister received her Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Seattle University, Seattle, WA. She ministered in Hazel Crest, IL, Eugene, OR, and Waterloo, IA.

Sister is survived by her sisters, Ann (Michael) Erikson and Lisa (Harvey) Bolin; her brothers, George (Twyla) Nelson, Robert (Wendy) Nelson, and Gene (Krisanne) Nelson; her sister-in-law, Susan Boitano; her nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John Nelson.
