Stephen P. DeLire

Stephen P. “Steve” DeLire, 74, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away Saturday morning, September 22, 2018 at Bethany Home in Dubuque, IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, where military honors will be accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps. League. Visitation is from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the Miller Funeral Home.

Steve was born on August 24, 1944 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Adrian P. and Sylvia J. (Thoma) DeLire. He was a 1962 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Steve served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, on the USS Hornet and was also stationed in Guam.

On October 19, 1968 he married Janet (Craig) Morrison in Moline, Illinois. Steve was employed at the John Deere Dubuque Works as a pipe fitter, retiring in 1995. He continued operating DeLire Rental Properties and other businesses.

He was a former member of U.A.W. Local # 94. Steve was a die-hard Cubs fan, he loved camping and time spent with his family. Whenever possible he enjoyed his Harley.
Grandpa was the Creator of the Rock a doodle doo. A story for his grandkids.

Steve was a great husband, Dad, grandpa, uncle, friend and landlord, whatever you knew him best as. He will be truly missed by all.

Surviving is his wife, Janet; six children, Bill (Lynn) Morrison of East Dubuque, Tracy (Rick) Bankson and Dawn Morrison, both of Dubuque, Scott DeLire of East Dubuque, and Vance (Tricia) DeLire and Craig (Amy) DeLire both of Dubuque; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Sylvia, and a sister, Mary Ann Schwendinger.

A Stephen P. DeLire memorial fund has been established.
