Sue was born on March 11, 1947, in Edgewood, Iowa, the daughter of Larry and Virginia (Welchert) Thein. She graduated from Ed-Co High School in 1964. On December 27, 1967, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Galle at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Sue worked at Northwest Bell for 16 years. She later worked at Finley Hospital until her retirement and also spent time working for the City of Dubuque in the Parking Division. She was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Sue cherished her family above everything. She was fiercely loyal and protective of her family and friends. Her siblings were all very close to her. She was a generous and devoted mother. Children to Sue included her own boys but also all her nieces and nephews, extra friends her boys brought home and one very special extra son, Scott Frost with whom she shared a particular bond.

Sue’s greatest joy came when she became a grandmother. Her four grandchildren were the light of her life and she never tired of bragging about them. She loved to tell stories of their lives to everyone and proud is not a strong enough word for her feelings.

She enjoyed traveling on cruises and to see family. She liked to care for her yard and took pride in her home. She enjoyed watching musicals and plays, especially if family members were performing.

Sue is survived by her husband, Jack; her sons, Michael (Deborah) Galle of Indiana and John (Jen) Galle of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, Natalie, and James; and seven siblings, Sandy Freisenger, Georgia (Mark) Brown, Judy (Ron) Wolf, Sylvia Kluesner, Larry (Kim) Thein, Pat (Jeanette) Thein, and Mike (Peggy) Thein. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Virginia; her son, Jeff; and her sister, Jill.

In lieu of flowers, a Sue Galle memorial fund will be established with donations going to her favorite charities.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ennoble and the University of Iowa ICU.
