Susan Kay Francois, 72, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on July 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, at Luther Manor – Hillcrest. Friends and family may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Mike Ellis officiating.
Susan was born on June 20, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Darlene (Gerhard) Francois. She attended St. Patrick’s and Dubuque Senior High School. She worked at the Dubuque Packing Company/FDL for five years, and at Luther Manor – Hillcrest for 15 years. She was a Cub Scout Leader for the East Dubuque Pack #14.
Sue’s family was #1 in her life, especially her nieces, nephews, great niece, great nephews, and stepdaughter Lacey. Sue was known for her bubbly and fun personality. She was so sweet and kind; anyone that met her loved her. “To know her was to love her.” She also loved to make her famous Chicken Noodle Soup; she made her own noodles using her grandma’s recipe. She was always asked to make her pumpkin cookies with maple frosting for every holiday, and she made more than enough so everyone could take some home. She was a very giving person, even though she didn’t have a lot. She loved watching the Hallmark Channel and all the old TV shows from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s – just like her dad. Horses were her passion. She loved listening to Barry Manilow, Kenny Chesney, and especially her favorite: Elvis Presley.
Sue is survived by her son, Noel Fries; grandsons, Damien (Erica) Fries and Brett Fries; great grandchildren, Sunny Lane and Gunner; stepdaughter Lacey (Gabe) Farrell; four step granddaughters; sisters, Shari (Mike) Price, Sandy (Jeff) Wesenberg, and Shelly Francois; brother, Steve Francois; nieces, Tressa and Jenna; nephews, Matt, Ryan, and Alex; one great niece; and four great nephews. She will be deeply missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Darlene; and niece Hailey Tracy.
