Theresa Mitchell Deppe
Theresa Mitchell Deppe, 87, of Dubuque, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Theresa will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Fr. Raymond Burkle as the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Dubuque immediately following the service.
Theresa was born June 10, 1938, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Roy and Irene (Friederick) Mitchell. On July 4, 1962, she married Edward A. Deppe at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church-Key West. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2024.
Theresa graduated from the former St. Joseph’s Academy in 1956, and Clarke College in 1961. Before her marriage, Theresa taught in Rockford, Illinois and at Marshall School in Dubuque. She was an elementary substitute teacher for the Dubuque Community School District for 45 years prior to retiring in 2010.
Her hobbies included playing the organ and piano, crafting, entertaining, and cooking. Theresa started playing the organ when she was in the 8th grade for weekly services. For decades she played at Holy Ghost Catholic Church and lastly at Stonehill Care Center.
Survivors include one son, Mark E. (Debra) Deppe of Almont, MI; one daughter, Anne M. (Bernard) Deppe-Manderfeld, DVM of Faribault, MN; grandchildren, Kaylin (Daniel) Deppe-Pacheco of US Navy, HI, Peter (Terrah) Deppe of UT, Lauren Deppe of MI, Amelia (Michael Larson) Manderfeld of MN, and Anthony Manderfeld of VA; two sisters, Rita Manternach of Cascade, IA, and Rosemary Wertzberger of Johnston, IA; nieces and nephews, Brian Manternach of Cascade, IA, Dale Manternach of Cascade, IA, Ross Manternach of CO, Carl Wetzberger of Des Moines, IA, Pam Ockenfels of Wellman, IA, Jill Friedow of Madison, WI.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Carl Mitchell; and sister- and brothers-in-law, Helen (Leonard) Hafemen, Ralph Manternach, and Charles Wertzberger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Clarke University, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Stonehill Care center, or Hospice of Dubuque.
