Thomas C. Dolter

Thomas C. “Hawk” Dolter, 90, of Dubuque, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Rev. Dwayne Thoman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is entrusted with arrangements.

Thomas was born August 3, 1927 in Dubuque, the son of Frank J. and Elizabeth (Klein) Dolter. He served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. He married Velma Langkamp on September 9, 1950. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2008.

Thomas retired from the Dubuque Packing Company where he was employed for many years. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Thomas enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening, and making concrete garden art. He loved wintering in Yuma, AZ. Thomas was a loyal Democrat until the end of his life.

Thomas is survived by his children, Judy (Dan) Vorwald of Bernard, Gary (Connie) Dolter of Dubuque, Jan (Pete) Hutchison of Urbandale, IA, Joyce Bottoms of Dubuque, and Jill (Paul) Reinke of Elkhart, IA; his grandchildren, Jeff (Krystle) Gard and their children Kai, Everest, and Byron; Paul Gard; Matthew (Jared Rogers) Dolter; Tiffany Woodward and her children Samantha and Katie; Kim (Justin) Russell and their daughter Hattie; Sarah (Bernie) DelCampo and their daughter Florencia; Jacob (Cathy Dolan) Bottoms; Stephanie and Samantha Bottoms; Aaron and Rachel Reinke; Todd (Kim) Kerkenbush and their children Alex, Ryan, Sean, and Luke; Chad (Kristi) Kerkenbush and their children June and Sylvia; and Gregory (Beverly) Gard; and his in-laws, Delphine, Betty, and Judy Dolter, Lorraine (Herb) Hottenstein, and Bob Burbach.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Frank (Alma)Dolter , Rev. Robert Dolter, Richard Dolter, James Dolter, Joseph (Rita & Rita) Dolter, David Dolter, Paul Dolter, Margaret (Lincoln) Steffens, Mary (Jim) Link, Ida Marie (Tom) Linden, Blanche Burbach, Clifford (Darlene) Langkamp, and Kenneth (Mary) Langkamp.

The family would like to thank Mercy Medical Center, Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Loetscher and Dr. Ringold, and Tom’s wonderful neighbors and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque.
