Vincent M. Leisen

Vincent “Vince” Mathew Leisen, a long-time resident of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, due to dementia-related complications, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:45 am Monday, July 1, 2024 at Church of the Nativity.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent will be 11:00 am Monday, July 1, 2024, at Church of the Nativity with Msgr. James Miller as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.

Vince was born to Joseph and Julia (Stroot) Leisen on July 19, 1934, in Wabasha, MN, and raised on a farm east of Kellogg, MN.  On December 4, 1965, he married Karen Ann Heaser of Minneiska, MN, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska. The newlyweds moved to Spring Valley, MN, before settling in Dubuque, IA, to start their family, which grew to six daughters and three sons.

Vince moved to Dubuque and partnered with his brother Richard to open Dubuque Appliance Center in 1967. Vince worked tirelessly to support his family, selling and servicing a wide variety of appliances until his retirement.

A man of deep faith, Vince served for over four decades as a Church of Nativity lector, Eucharistic minister, a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and supporter of Holy Family Catholic Schools.  He was an ardent Minnesota Vikings fan. His name is engraved on a legacy brick in U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Vince, a devoted father and husband, loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings, and their families, sharing memories, stories, and laughter.

Vince is survived by his nine beloved children: Jean (Norman) Leisen-Bondoc of Madison, WI, Teresa Sellinger of Sparta, NJ, Steven (Tammi) Leisen of Urbandale, IA, Amy (John) Ouellette of Murfreesboro, TN, Daniel (Theresa) Leisen of Dubuque, Diana (Mike) Moroney of Dubuque, Angela (Jack) Seeley of Charlotte, NC, Molly Leisen of Dubuque, and Anthony (Morgan) Leisen of St. Paul, MN; his 23 cherished grandchildren: Evan, Peyton, Delaney, and Haley Bondoc, Griffin, Devin, and Alexandra Sellinger, Vincent Leisen, Morgan, Zachary, and Samantha Ouellette, Natalie and Isabel Leisen, Brock, Connor, Nicholas, and Madeline Moroney, Olivia, William, Elena, and Caroline Seeley, and Robert and Ethan Leisen; and his brother Richard (Rhea) Leisen of Dubuque.

Vince is preceded in death by his wife Karen, parents, brothers William and Joseph, and sisters Mary Catherine Holst, Eileen Grindeland, and Janet Marini.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Hospice of Dubuque.
