Virgil C. Hansen

Virgil “Turk” Carl Hansen, 83, of Dubuque, died Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Ennoble Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dubuque.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:15 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Cathedral of St. Raphael.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Virgil will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Cathedral of St. Raphael with Father Dennis Quint as the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Centralia. Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #6.

Virgil was born December 24, 1942, in Dubuque, the son of Andrew and Helen (Schultz) Hansen. On November 5, 1966, he married Jean Schilling in Cathedral of St. Raphael in Dubuque.

He served in the United States Army Reserves. He worked for Trus Joist Midwest Corporation in Dubuque, FDL, and retired from Iowa Oil Companies.

Virgil was a member of Cathedral of St. Raphael in Dubuque. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, especially cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and trying his luck at card games. Above all, Virgil treasured time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren, and took great pride in watching them grow into the people they have become.

Survivors include wife, Jean Hansen of Dubuque; his daughter, Sally (William) Ristau of Dubuque; three grandsons, Justin (Amber) Hansen, Jeremy (Bailee) Hansen, and Jordan (Taylor) Hansen; two great-grandchildren, RosaLee and Theo Hansen; two siblings, Marilyn Nauman of Dubuque, and Duane (Peggy) Hansen of Dewey, AZ; siblings-in-law, Anna Mae Hansen of Dubuque, Charles Busch of Minneapolis, MN, John (Vicki) Schilling of Rickardsville, IA, Carol Schmitt of Peosta, Madelyn Schilling of Peosta, IA, Shirley Schilling of Dubuque and Rita McFadden of Minnetrista, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Shirley Busch, Celeste Burds, Raymond Hansen; siblings-in-law, Fred Schilling, Bob (Dorothy) Schilling, Wilma Schilling, Jim Schilling, Mary (Babe) Maas, George Schmitt, David (Joyce) Schilling, Darlene (Joe) Berzle and Pete McFadden.

The family would like to thank Ennoble Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their care.
