Wally was born on March 22, 1947 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Walter J. and Verla M. (Stockel) Bonnet. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grade School and East Dubuque High School, class of 1965.

Wally was united in marriage to Susan Glab on October 29, 1966 at St. Anthony’s Church in Dubuque. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. Wally was a retired employee of the John Deere Dubuque Works and was a member of U.A.W. Local # 94.

Wally was known for his strong work ethic and had a love for hunting, westerns, collecting, and reading.  He was also an avid card player and was notorious for overbidding in Euchre and Bonnet Hell.  He was passionate about the farm where he was born and raised and lived his entire life, except his service during the Vietnam War.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved nothing more than when the family gathered together at holidays and in the summer for the annual “cousins week.”

Surviving is his loving wife, Susan Louise Glab; five children – Michelle (Philip) Cox and children Nathaniel, Owen and Ellie; John (Kari) Bonnet and children Walter, Grant, Sam and Lilly; Marcy (David) Martino and children Maggie (DJ) Hagen and Samantha; Jason (Carmi) Bonnet and children Jacob and Henry; and Elizabeth (Shaun) Canary and children Madeline and Grace; brother, Stanley (Sue) Bonnet and sister-in-law Polly Bonnet.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary Bonnet.

In lieu of donations, please send guns, arrowheads, or WW II memorabilia to Wally’s garage.
