Wayne J. Bauer

Wayne Joseph Bauer, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away at Oak Park Place on August 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd; with a wake service to begin at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Resurrection Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6 and the Iowa Army National Guard.

Wayne was born on August 8, 1934, the son of Emil and Helen (Nagle) Bauer. He went to Sacred Heart School in Dubuque. Wayne was in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On October 19, 1957, he married Betty Jean (Blakeman) Bauer at Sacred Heart Church. He worked at the Dubuque Packing Co/FDL until his retirement in 1994 as well as Caradco Co. in Dubuque.

He was involved in the Boys Club Booster, Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, he played softball for various teams. He enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking, helping his neighbors and friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandkids. Wayne would walk a mile for a good catfish dinner.

Wayne is survived by his wife Betty; son, David (Lisa) Bauer; daughter, Diane (Ed) Pickel; son, Daniel (Jenni) Bauer; grandchildren, Alec Bauer, Mason (Megan) Bauer, Connor (Hannah) Bauer, Carter Bauer, CortLynn Bauer, Brady Slaton, Becca (Alex) Menster, Eddie (Jennifer) Pickel Jr.; great grandchildren, Oliver Bauer, Alden Bauer, Lennon Menster.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Rosemary Patters, Loraine Krueger, Shirley Steuri and LaVerne Bauer.

Per Wayne’s requests, he requests no flowers, and any memorials be given to the Dubuque Humane Society.
