Wayne T. Lewis
Wayne T. Lewis, 81, of Dubuque, died Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 3:15 pm Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Funeral Service for Wayne will be 3:30 pm Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Robert Harben officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post #6 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque at a later date.
Wayne was born September 24, 1942, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Merlin K. and Catherine (Vogel) Lewis. In May of 1963, he married Linda Ann Boelen. They later divorced. On November 22, 1980, he married Janice G. Clevenger in Maquoketa, IA.
He was a 1960 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1964 until 1967.
Wayne dedicated 38 years of his life to large volume gas sales at People’s Natural Gas Company, where he traveled and relocated as needed. Throughout his tenure, People’s Gas Company underwent multiple name changes. He retired in May of 2002. Recently, he worked part-time at ServiceOne. After leaving Dubuque in 1983, he returned in 2003. Wayne actively participated in various community organizations, including the Kiwanis Club, Dennison City Council, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dubuque Jaycees, First Congregational membership team and trustee, and Diplomat and Ambassador in Rochester, MN. He enjoyed golfing, tending to the yard, taking care of his cats, and trading cars often. He was a talented musician and played the piano and accordion. He performed in the band, Country Kings, playing throughout Northeast Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; four daughters, Cynthia Tinney of Oklahoma City, OK, Janna Witherell of Mascoutah, IL, Danna Luttrell of Springfield, IL, and Stephanie Fossum of Rochester, MN; five grandchildren, Marisa (Timothy) Trevino, Brianna Witherell, Christopher Luttrell, Terra (Ron) Bisby, and Haley (Chris) Espinosa; four great-granddaughters, Amaya, Akorra, Aria, and BraeLynne; one sister, Joannie McEowen of Worthington, IA; one brother, Gary (Carol) Lewis of Dubuque; three brothers-in-law, Ron Clevenger of Silvis, IL, and Delbert (Sandy) Clevenger of East Moline, IL; nephews and nieces; and his cat, Boo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, Bob McEowen and Marlin Clevenger, and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Clevenger, and his former wife, Linda.
A memorial has been established.
