William K. Sabers

William K. “Bill” Sabers, 79, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully Friday, September 20, 2024, at home with his family by his side.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be 11:00 am Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Father Jeff Frieden as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

William was born May 11, 1945, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Floyd H. and Cecelia  Ruden Sabers. On September 25, 1965, he married Judith Fagan at St. Joseph the Worker in Dubuque.

He was a 1963 graduate of Wahlert Catholic High School.

Bill was a Press Operator for John Deere Dubuque Works for 36 years, retiring in 2001.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Ghost Catholic Church. A passionate fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, he also enjoyed deer hunting and loved hosting July 4th celebrations for family and friends, complete with impressive fireworks displays. Each day, he took delight in watching the wildlife in his backyard and cherished his John Deere tractors and Ford trucks-there are no others! Generous to his family and incredibly proud of them, his greatest love was for his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; three sons, Curtis Sabers of Central City, IA, Brian (Sue) Sabers of Durango, and Alan Sabers of Dubuque; one daughter-in-law, Sheila Sabers of Rickardsville, IA; six grandchildren, Hunter (Emily) Sabers of Altoona, IA, Noah (Jackie Brock) Sabers of Minneapolis, MN, Quiana Sabers of Durango, IA, Isaiah Sabers of Durango, IA, Chase (Liv King) Sabers of Sageville, IA, Zachary Sabers of Sageville, IA; one great-granddaughter, Ellie Sabers of Altoona, IA; one brother, Steve (Leann) Sabers of Dubuque; two sisters, Sandra Helbing and Nita (Roger) Kremer, both of Dubuque; one sister-in-law, Julie Sabers of Dubuque; one brother-in-law, Gary (Jeanette) Fagan of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dale Sabers, two brothers, Rick and Mike Sabers, one sister, Bonnie Breen, and one brother-in-law, Harold Helbing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Hospice of Dubuque – East Team.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the East Team at Hospice of Dubuque, particularly Angela and Hayle. They were true angels, providing exceptional care to Bill since November 2023.
