Andy Daughetee

Andy Daughetee, 51, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 21, 2024, surrounded by his family after a three-year journey with brain cancer.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Andy will be 10:30 am Monday, March 25, 2024, at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Father Jeff Frieden as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Andy was born in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Larry and Jane (Gartner) Daughetee.  He attended Holy Ghost, Wahlert, and received his bachelor’s degree from Clarke College, Dubuque.

Andy married his high school sweetheart, Jenny Nauman on September 9, 1995, in Dubuque. Together, they had two incredible daughters, and built a beautiful life surrounded by family.

Andy worked as Controller at Hodge Company, where the people were like a second family to him.  He was the first recipient of the Hodge Company Ding Bell Service & Loyalty Award and retired after 31 years of service.  He was a lifelong member of Holy Spirit Parish-Holy Ghost where he served as an usher for several years.

Andy had a love of sports and was an exceptional golfer.  You never had to look further than a local golf course to find him.  He also cheered loyally for the Hawkeyes, the Bears, the Cubs, and any team his daughters played for, win or lose.

Andy was easy to love.  Being with Andy meant you would both be laughing; his giggle was contagious & his eyes twinkled with every teasing remark.  He never failed to give a big smile and told us every day how much he loved us and appreciated us.  He taught us to face adversity with grace, courage, positivity, and a sense of humor.

His legacy lives on with his wife, Jenny, daughters Erin & Emma of Dubuque, father Larry of Dubuque, two sisters, Tina (Kevin) Knudtson of Juda, WI and Tammy (Chuck) Freisinger of Dubuque.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Marge Nauman, in-laws Terry (Linda) Nauman, Pat (Scott) Cawiezell, Connie (Terry Truex) Kennedy, Jeff (Melissa) Nauman, Dave (Lucy) Nauman, Randy (Kris) Nauman, and Tom (Heidi) Nauman, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  He will be missed by his mini-dachshunds Cooper & Winston.

Andy was preceded in death by his mother Jane Daughetee, his father-in-law, Herman (Boots) Nauman, and his puppy, Wrigley.

The family extends our appreciation to Grand River Medical Group and the University of Iowa Hospital for the expert medical care that Andy received on this journey. You helped give us more quality time with Andy. We also want to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Buffy & Ryan for their compassion, care and support.  Special thanks to Andy’s dad Larry, sister Tammy, and amazing friend Osty for being right there with Andy every step of the way.

To honor Andy’s memory, the Daughetee Family fund has been set up at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. This fund will help with brain cancer research and provide support for families braving this journey.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to this fund.

John W. Tilton

John W. “Jac” Tilton, 77, passed February 18, 2024, at home at peace after an eight-month illness.

Born December 28, 1946, in central Illinois, Jac moved to the tri-state area in 1969 to teach art in the Galena Public Schools. Known to this day as “Mr. T”, his classes combined creativity with humor and fun. Jac taught for 12 years before transferring his creative skills to Dubuque-area publishing and communication businesses for over 35 years. He retired from the University of Dubuque.

Despite his professional responsibilities, Jac never lost sight of his twin passions: fine art and music. In 2017 he achieved his life-long dream of becoming a full-time watercolorist. His paintings were featured in both national and international watercolor exhibits, adorned the walls of many Midwestern galleries and were published in compilations of the best American painters. Jac played most anything with strings, participating in a number of bluegrass and old-time music groups.

Jac was known for his quick wit, funny stories, eclectic reading habits, and an encyclopedia-like interest in a wide range of topics, from foreign languages and politics to nature and Taoism. He also enjoyed traveling, kayaking and camping.

Jac had a fiercely private and independent streak yet was incredibly loyal to his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Chris Chapin-Tilton; Doug Tilton, of Dubuque, his children and grandson; Shannon (Dee) Wulf, of East Troy, WI, their children and grandchildren; Aaron Tilton of Berlin, Germany; Drake (Ashley) Tilton of Dubuque; Yvonne Scott, of Carbondale, IL, her children and grandchildren; Jim (Trish) Tognacci, of Fountain Hills, AZ; and Marilyn Tognacci of Chandler, AZ, her children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and Louis Tognacci.

To his loved ones, Jac left two final quotes: one from Pete Seeger and the other a “Jac original.”  From Pete: “Life is like a song. Just about the time you have it figured out, it’s over.” From Jac: “Keep practicing.” And he lived by those words to the end.

A memorial art show will be held in Jac’s honor at the University of Dubuque on Friday, Sept. 27. A private Celebration of Life will be held at the Galena Center for Arts on Sat., Sept. 28, following a committal of his ashes at Casper Creek Natural Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent directly to the Galena Center for the Arts and the University of Dubuque to support arts education projects in Jac’s memory. In addition, Jac and Chris have developed a line of merchandise featuring Jac’s artwork, which will be available in select area locations with all profit contributed to the two memorial funds.

The Tilton family would like to recognize Dr. Mark Hermann and staff at the Integrated Cancer Center and the Hospice of Dubuque staff for their outstanding and truly compassionate care of Jac.

Coni J. White

Coni J. White, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 18, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 76. She was born on November 3, 1947, in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Elmer and Irene (Beck) Risinger.

A graduate of Maquoketa High School’s class of 1965, Coni embarked on a journey of love with former husband Russ Hart on May 20, 1967, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Their union blessed them with three wonderful children: Janelle, Ed, and Rusty. Though Coni and Russ later parted ways, love rekindled in her life when she met Michael Curtis White. Their hearts united in marriage on June 20, 1997, in Maquoketa, and they shared a devoted partnership until his passing on May 8, 2018.

Coni’s professional life initially embraced the role of a farm wife, and later contributed her skills to the Farrell Gas Company in Maquoketa. Her career path led her to working at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken for a time, followed by several years at the helm of Happy Joe’s. Ultimately, Coni found her calling in the kitchens of Maquoketa Schools, where she served as a beloved cook for 19 years before her well-deserved retirement.

Beyond her work, Coni relished the simple pleasures of life. She found joy in tending to her garden, and was known for her ability to socialize and connect with people from all walks of life. Most importantly, she cherished time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that would become their most treasured inheritance.

Coni’s legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her children, Janelle (Allen) Weimerskirch of Cedar Falls, IA, Ed (Kathy) Hart of Lake Mills, WI, and Rusty (Jay) Hart of Prescott, WI. Her memory will be held dear by her eight grandchildren, Lekeisha, Hali, Emma, Kelcey, Libby, Brian, Eddie, and Lucas, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. The light of her love will also shine on through her two great-grandchildren, Delia, and Lundyn.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Mike White.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, March 29, 2024, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 11:15 A.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
