Edward J. Lakatosh

Edward J. Lakatosh, 95, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on September 11th, 2023, at Harmony Dubuque Nursing Home.

Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 13th, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A Funeral Service will begin at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque Iowa with military honors accorded by the Iowa Army National Guard and American Legion Post #6.

Ed was born on October 2nd, 1927, in Slatington, Pennsylvania, son of Joseph and Cora (Valora) Lakatosh. Ed honorably served his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict in the Army Air Force (Air Corps). He and his second wife, Joan, owned and operated Our Haus in Peosta, Iowa. He also worked as a truck driver for Rowley Interstate. He was an avid hunter and was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Ed is survived by his children Ed Jr. (Mary) Lakatosh of Walnutport, PA, and Jenmarie Lakatosh, stepchildren Mary Flynn, James (Kim) Saul, Steve (Paula) Saul, and Jeff (Stephanie) Saul, 15 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, brothers Dale Lakatosh Sr. and David Lakatosh Sr., sister-in-law Sally Boynton, companion Julie Breitsprecker, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Lillian, his second wife Joan, siblings Joe Lakatosh Jr., Robert Lakatosh, Dean Lakatosh Sr., and Denton Lakatosh.

 


 

Mark E. Engling

Mark E. Engling, age 70, of Dubuque, passed away at 11:45 p.m., on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Hawkeye Care Center.  To honor Mark’s life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m., on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.  Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Friday at Behr Funeral Home, with Deacon David Roth officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mark was born on December 18, 1952, in Dubuque, son of Gerald and Jenny (Travis) Engling.

Mark attended Holy Ghost Grade School and went on to earn his GED.  In his younger days he worked at the Telegraph Herald, Econo Foods, Martin Car Wash and at Bowling and Beyond.  Mark enjoyed building model cars and semi trucks and spending time online gaming and chatting with people.  He liked to ride along with his brother-in-law, Gene Schmitt, on over the road truck trips all across the country, and trying his luck at the casino on occasion.  Most of his life Mark didn’t own a vehicle he took what he liked to call the “shoe leather express”, walking all over town.  Mark was a great brother, uncle and godfather who never forgot a birthday and always looked forward to the holidays.  He loved to give special gifts to his family and had special mementos made whenever a new baby came along.  Mark also loved babysitting and walking his family’s dogs.  Mark will be greatly missed.

Donald M. Fouts

Donald M. Fouts passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on September 7, 2023. A private family service will be held. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family.

He was born at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA on July 12, 1936, to Thomas M. and Grace A. Fouts. Don graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1954. He entered the U.S. Army in August of 1954 and served until August 1957. Don graduated as a parachutist in March 1955, and served with the 82nd Airborne Division; Fort Bragg and the 11th Airborne Division; Fort Campbell, KY, and Augsburg Germany. 

He married Luette K. Schultz on June 21, 1958, and later divorced. Don married Carol Jean Gorsuch on October 7, 1970. He had five children: Bjarne Moberg (Karen) of Pueblo, CO, Kathy Sheets (Scott) of Fort Pierce, FL, Jason Fouts (Liz) of Huntley, IL and Justin Fouts (Daisy) of Boiling Springs, SC. 

Don was a successful business owner and retired in 1998. He was an aviation, boat, and automobile enthusiast and an avid traveler; having visited all seven continents. Don had a zest for life and his adventurous spirit will live on. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Fouts, sister Carol Torry, daughter Lori Fouts, grandson Tony Bouley, and grandson Joshua Brooks.

Patricia A. Steichen

Patricia Ann Steichen passed away on September 5th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was beloved by her children, grandchildren and husband who miss her dearly.  A visitation and time for gathering will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, Iowa, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  There will be a prayer service held at 3:00 p.m.  Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Galena, Illinois.

Patricia Ann Steichen, 86 of Dubuque was born to Edward “Red” and Mildred (Engel) McGuire in 1937 in Galena, Illinois. Patricia met Raymond Steichen at the Firemen’s Ball at Turner Hall, Galena, Illinois in 1957. They danced their way through courtship and married in November of 1958. Their children are Karl (Kassandra Powell) Steichen, Karen (Brian) Huskins, Paul (Bich Tran) Steichen and Kathy (Christopher Urias) Steichen. Grandchildren are Katelyn and Jesse Huskins and Ethan and Grace Steichen.

She loved family, friends and a good joke dearly. Domestic and international travel was a valued family activity as were working together with family on many projects including gardening. She traveled to several countries including Canada, Mexico, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Ireland and across Europe with family.
Patricia attended Marquette University and worked in several areas as a registered nurse. Her love of reading was instilled in her children from a very young age when she read novels and stories of the outdoors aloud to them as infants onward. She loved cooking and especially baking.  She received a kidney transplant from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and her health flourished for many years.
She was preceded in death by a brother at birth and a sister Marilyn Fruehauff.  Patricia had a great love for animals, outdoor activities, and those less fortunate.

The family is thankful for the partnership and guidance of Hospice of Dubuque and their caring, diligent and professional services partnering with the family in her care for the last two months of her life.  Also a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Whalen and Dr. Hermann for their outstanding care.

Dale L. Runde

Dale L. “Gus” Runde, 90, of Kieler, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church, Kieler, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 14 at Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler, where there will be a Parish Scripture Wake Service at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10:15 a.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is assisting the family.

Gus was born on November 2, 1932 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the son of Clarence and Orpha (Gunderman) Runde. He served in the United States Air Force. Gus was united in marriage to Shirley D. Kempter on June 1, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Church in Dubuque, Iowa.

Gus was employed at John Deere Tractor Works. He was a valued and active member of the community. Gus was a member of the Jamestown Fire Department for 65 years, serving as secretary for 30 years. He served as the Jamestown Caucus Secretary for 48 years, Jamestown Election Chairman for 28 years and was a member of the Jamestown Park Commission for 10 years. Gus served for 34 years on the Kieler Sanitary Commission, including 12 years as president. He was a Kieler Boy Scouts Treasurer for 20 years and Grant County Special Deputy for six years. Gus was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, where he was an active member of the Parish Council, Holy Name Society, Finance Board, and Fourth of July Picnic Committee, serving as General Chairman for 22 years. He was also Chief Mulligan Cook for 54 years.

Gus is survived by his wife, Shirley Runde, Kieler; two daughters, Susan (Daniel) Puls, Orfordville, WI, and Amy (David) Runde Campbell, Prairie du Sac, WI; four sons, Michael Runde, Terrell, TX, William (Lori) Runde, Janesville, WI, Patrick (Jane) Runde, Libertyville, IL, and Thomas Runde, Evansville, WI; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter in 1958; three sisters, Arlene (Bud) Burlage, Betty (Ken) Pratt, and Rita (Vince) Hinderman; and two brothers, Burnette “Bud” (Tina) Runde and Leland “Buck” (Sally) Runde. 

In lieu of flowers, a Dale L. “Gus” Runde Memorial Fund has been established. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.

Marcella M. Travis

Marcella M. “Marcie” Travis, age 94, of Dubuque, passed away at 7:50 p.m., on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Marcie’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 3:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Avenue, with Rev. Steven M. Garner officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Marcie was born on April 10, 1929, at home in North Buena Vista, Iowa, one of the14 children of John and Bernadette (Brimeyer) Engling.

Marcie attended school until the 8th grade before staying home to help with the large family.  She met her future husband, James Travis, working at Flexsteel and the couple married on April 12, 1947, in Dubuque.  They went on to have 8 children and celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary before Jim passed away on March 31, 1993.  Along with raising her family Marcie also worked at the Battery Factory and as a seamstress for Flexsteel Industries and at Frommelt/Rite Hite for many years.  She worked at Bar X and the Moracco and owned the Country Mouse store in Kennedy Mall.  Marcie was always busy!  She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Rosary Society, the United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary and Council, served as a past president of U.C.T. Auxiliary and was a past Grand Junior Counselor of the Iowa Grand Council of U.C.T.  She loved traveling to Hawaii and exploring all of the sights.  Marcie was always happy and made the world around her a better place.  She will be greatly missed.

Richard W. Molony

Richard W. Molony, 94, of Bernard, Iowa passed away on September 5th, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 14th, 2023 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 15th, 2023 at St. Patrick Garryowen Church with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Cascade American Legion.

He was born on August 28, 1929, in Bernard, Iowa, the son of Michael and Grace (Cannon) Molony. He married Barbara Cahill on October 27, 1951, at St. Joseph Key West Church.

Dick graduated from St. Patrick’s School in Garryowen and farmed for most of his life in the Bernard area.

He liked to hunt, fish and play Euchre.  He and Barb also liked to travel. His favorite trip was to Ireland. Barb and Dick spent 20 winters in Arizona and made lifelong friends there. Dick liked to go to area casinos with family. He was known to like a good story and a joke. He served on Dubuque Conservation Board for 20 years and 20 years as a director on the Hawkeye Bank Board.

He is a US Army Veteran; he served active duty from Nov. 1951 to Nov. 1953; Army Reserve, for 31 years and 82nd Airborne, 2 years. He was a life member of 82nd Airborne Association, member of American Legion of Cascade #528 where he was a past commander, and 40 & 8, Retired Officers Association MOAA. He attended the 82nd Airborne convention for many years. He took great pride in serving his country.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; five children, Julie Molony of Portland, OR, Margaret (David) Cooper, of Lincoln City, OR, Laura (John Varner) Molony of Portland, OR, Beth Molony of Schaumburg, IL, and William “Rich” (Kelly) Molony of Bernard. 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Elaine Molony of Peosta, IA

Richard was preceded in death by, his parents, his daughter Michelle Molony-Noonan, his son Richard in infancy; sisters: Fran Anglin, Rita DellaValle, Martha Hutchins, Anne Feeney and Sr. Mary Sheila Molony, RSM. Brothers Michael Molony, John Molony, James Molony, and Pat Molony, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law

Patricia A. Shady

Patricia A. Shady, 81, of Cincinnati, Iowa, and formerly of the Maquoketa area, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at home.

Patricia Ann Bliss was born on April 15, 1942 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Melvin and Delores (Eckelberg) Bliss.  She went to Bridgeport Country School through the 8th grade and then to the Andrew Schools where graduated.  Shortly thereafter she married Rollie Schoenherr in 1961 until his death in 1984.  On April 10, 1988, she married Ronald Dale Shady.  She was a homemaker and helped at her son Randal’s restaurant, the Long Branch Tavern in Canton for many years.  In 1994, they moved to northern Missouri for eight years and then moved to Cincinnati, Iowa until her passing.

Patricia loved to mow the lawn and did so until her health wouldn’t let her.  She loved crocheting, vacationing, camping, fishing, and playing cards.  She also enjoyed red roses and African violets, hummingbirds and watching country western music on television or in person.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 35 plus years, Ronald Shady of Cincinnati, IA; sister, Barbara Bliss of Marion, IA; children, Lucreca (Dennis Houston) Schoenherr of Maquoketa, IA, Lucinda (Rick) Turnis of Cascade, IA, Rodney Schoenherr of Maxwell, IA, Loretta Schoenherr of Houma, LA, Tonya (Allan) Waller of Bernard, IA, Sheila (Reggie) Gillis of Cedar Rapids, IA, Oscar Schoenherr of Monmouth, IA, Patricia Schoenherr of Centerville, IA, Dwight (Kathy) Schoenherr of Cascade, IA; daughters-in-law, Jennifer Schoenherr of Canton, IA; and Jill Yousse of Maquoketa, IA; step-children, Melissa (Steve) McColley of Warrenton, MO, Alice (Jonathan) David of Phenix City, AL, and Dale Shady Hoover of Marble Hill, MO; 18 grandchildren, and 5 step-grandchildren; and two very special friends, Burneta Sales and Ruth Husted, both of Cincinnati, IA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Melvin, first husband Rollie, sister Mary Jean, children Valerie, Lynn, Rollie, and Randal, and two grandchildren Mitchell Houston and Anthony Schoenherr.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 A.M., Friday, September 15, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Patricia A. Shady memorial fund has been established.

Mrs. Audrey Ann Okey

Mrs. Audrey Ann Okey, 89, 3203 Lake Ridge Dr., Dubuque, passed away peacefully on September 6th surrounded by loving friends, caregivers and her remaining son Jeffrey Okey, 64, of Los Angeles, CA.

An avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction,  Audrey really loved mysteries, classic movies and had a special fondness for news and books about the British Royal Family. As a mother of two sons, she shared her love of reading and movies with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband  of 51 years, Gilbert Okey, 71, in 2004 who she met in Dubuque while both were in college. She was also preceded in death by her first son Timothy Okey, 38, who tragically passed away much too soon in 1995.

Audrey grew up in Dubuque and was raised by her grandmother, Lena Hopp, who she affectionately called “Nana.”

She was greatly loved by her friends Terry and Debi, wonderful Home Instead caregivers, her “Go To Guy” Steve Houselog of Dubuque, and her remaining son, Jeffrey who is eternally grateful to her church, caregivers and friends.

Service will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, Sept. 13, at First Presbyterian Church, 1684 Iowa St. in Dubuque. Doors will open at 9:30 for those who wish to view her photos and share stories of her.

Sr. Jane Hosch, OSF

Sister Jane (Victor) Hosch, OSF of the Clare House, Dubuque, Iowa passed away at 1:25 a.m. Monday, September 4, 2023 at the Clare House

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023. Masks are optional. Guests unable to attend may participate via livestream at: www.youtube.com/dubuquefranciscans. The Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Sister was born on September 16, 1933 in Cascade, IA the daughter of Andrew and Olivia (Klinker) Hosch

Entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 25, 1952 and made final profession of vows August 10, 1958. Sister received her master’s degree in educational administration from Clarke College, Dubuque, IA and her doctorate degree in administrative leadership from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO. She ministered as a teacher and various administrator roles in Iowa at St. Edward, Waterloo; Briar Cliff College and Sacred Heart, Sioux City; St. Patrick, Cedar Falls; and Sacred Heart, Boone. Other education missions included Niles, IL; Moraga and Pasadena, CA; Washington D.C.; Charleston and Beaufort, SC; Springfield and Cape Girardeau, MO; and the Diocese of Sioux City, IA.

Sister is survived by her nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary Alma Hosch and Pauline (Mel) Green; brothers Charles Hosch, Edward Hosch, Robert (Marion) Hosch, and James (Lyndene) Hosch.

Bernard H. Soat

Bernard H. “Bernie” Soat, 86 of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, IA, surrounded by his family. Visitation for Bernard will be held at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, IL on Sunday, September 10, with Rosary at 1:30pm, followed by a visitation from 2pm – 5pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Monday, September 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Dubuque, IL., with Fr. Dennis Vargas officiating.  Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Bernard was born on September 21, 1936, in East Dubuque, IL. He lived a blessed life with his wife, Dorothy (Banwarth), whom he married on September 29, 1962. Bernard spent his whole life living in East Dubuque, in a house that he and his family members built and made into a loving and bountiful home.

Bernard served in the US Army, stationed in Europe, for more than two years. After 30 years working at John Deere, he worked part-time for Sanitary Towel Service of Dubuque, IA for many years, then fully enjoyed his retirement. Bernie was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 94, as well as the UAW Retirees. He was a life-long Cubs and Packers fan, and enjoyed camping, bowling, and euchre. He loved a good time, a cold beer, and was always the last to leave a party. In his later years, Bernie could most often be found in his workshop crafting wooden decorations for his home and family, testing his luck at the Casino, watching Andy Griffith re-runs, enjoying his wife’s homemade meals, or attending his grandchildren’s activities and events. His quick wit and sense of humor never left him, as he was lighting up rooms with laughter, even in his final days. Bernie will be remembered most for his loving, infectious smile, and the joy and contentment he brought to every occasion.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy Soat; his four children, Mike (Karin) Soat of Fort Wayne, IN, Dan (Joe Rokusek) of Dubuque, Renee (BJ) Johll of Peosta, IA, and Amy (Dan) Benson of Galena, IL; his seven grandchildren, Meghan (Mary Fox) Soat, Brandon (Gwen) Soat, Elinor (Tanner) Barnwell, Anna Johll, Sara, Sydney, and Danielle Benson. He is also survived by his brother Victor (Esther) Soat of Menominee, IL, his sister-in-law Helen Soat of Dubuque, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Irene Soat, his sister and brother-in-law, Bertilla “Tillie” and Jerry Westemeier, his brother Elmer, his brother and sister-in-law Merlin and Marlene Soat, as well as in-laws Alvin and Armella Banwarth, sister-in-law Kay Banwarth, and nieces Anne Oeth, Mona Rowell, and Judy Bingham.

Dave Hayes

Dave Hayes, 61, of Dubuque, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Rd., Dubuque, where a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Deacon Dave Roth will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Dave was born August 29, 1962 in Dubuque, the son of Gerald and Joanne (Rossman) Hayes. Dave was employed at several places over the years, including as a gravedigger for J.P. Vincent and Sons in Galena, at Walmart in Galena, and most recently at Way Point as a delivery driver.

Dave was a social butterfly who also enjoyed relaxing at home and going to the casino. Dave was a man of many words to many people he was around.  In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball. He was a devoted pet owner, and loved his dog, Shenay.

Dave is survived by his longtime companion, Penny Koehler, of Dubuque, and her son, Tyler (CeCe) Koehler, of Phoenix, AZ; his siblings, Michael (Patricia) Hayes, Karen Kutsch, Lynn (Tom) Dotterweich, and Jim Hayes, all of Dubuque; two sons, Gavin Glynn and Tony Ernst; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Deb Avenarius, Jeff Hayes, and Jerry Hayes.

Rose Mary Spillane

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose Mary Spillane, on September 4, 2023. Rose, who died at the age of 80, left this world peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and friends in her final days. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and selflessness that will forever be etched in our hearts.

A gathering will be held from 4 to 7 PM, on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM, Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Furlong Funeral Chapel, with her brother Fr. Donald Tranel officiating.

Rose was born on July 20, 1943, in Menominee, the daughter of Al and Mary Tranel. After graduating from Wahlert High School, she married Ron, her teenage sweetheart October 20, 1962. She worked for many years as a medical bookkeeper. Rose was the loving wife of 61 years to Ron, and a devoted mother to Dave (deceased), Mike, Greg, and Brian.  Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was game for any adventure with Ron and her sons whom she all called “My Boys”.  Rose was an accomplished trap shooter, and eagerly participated in many camping, hunting, and fishing adventures. She was kind and giving, and anyone entering her home felt welcome. Everyone she met counted her as a friend.  Her warm smile and gentle demeanor brightened the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her husband Ron, her children Mike (Lori) of Galena, Greg (Susan) of Cary, IL, and Brian (Becky) of East Dubuque, and her grandchildren Austin, Emily (Joe) Pagura, Quinn, Cameron, Ellie, and Allison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Patty in infancy, and her first-born son Dave.

Hillary M. Lynch

Hillary Marie Lynch, 42 of Bernard, Iowa passed away on September 4th, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 8th, 2023, at St. Lawrence Church Otter Creek with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery South Garryowen.

Hillary was born on April 17, 1981, in Maquoketa, Iowa the daughter of Marvin Anderson and Sheila Beauchamp. She graduated from Maquoketa High School and received her Bachelor of Animal Science from Black Hawk East West Texas A&M.

She married Jeffrey Lynch on August 7, 2004, at St. Lawrence Church in Otter Creek.

She worked as a Purina Nutrition Specialist and was the 1st woman in Purina History to win Rookie of the year in sales.

Hillary was a member of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, National Barrel Horse Association, Illinois Little Britches Rodeo Association and Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association.

Hillary was an avid equestrian her entire life. Competing in Rodeos from High School to college to pro rodeos as an adult. She also competed in horse judging throughout her life and became a professional horse judge.

Her most treasured trophy is her family. With the love of her life, Jeff, Hillary traveled to many horse shows and rodeos teaching her children the love of horses that will forever be instilled in them.

She is survived by her loving husband Jeff; her two children who she cherished: Johnnie (age 12) and Cutter (age 8); her mother Sheila Beauchamp-Thola (Robert Thola); her father Marvin Anderson; her mother-in-law Lois Lynch; her siblings Jessica (Scott) Hingtgen, Giselle (Austin) Till and Libby (Ryan) Palmer; step-brother Brian (Missy) Thola; brother-in-law Brian Schroeder along with 13 beautiful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her step-sister Angela Thola-Schroeder and her father-in-law John Lynch.

The family wishes to thank all the health care professionals who helped care for Hillary over her three-year battle. A special thank you to all of their family, friends and neighbors for all their wonderful love, compassion and friendship.

In lieu of flowers a Hillary Lynch memorial fund will be established for her children Johnnie and Cutter. The Memorial account will be established at Dupaco Community Credit Union.  Memorials may also be sent to the funeral home or to 5571 234th Street Bernard, Iowa 52032.

 


 

Daniel L. Heber

Daniel Luke Heber, 60, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away suddenly on September 4th, 2023, doing something he enjoyed with guys he thought of as brothers.

Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday September 8th, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with a Wake Service to start at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon John Stierman.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday September 9th, 2023, at St. Joseph Key West Catholic Church with Monsignor Thomas Toale officiating with Deacon John Stierman as Homilist. Inurnment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Dan was born on September 19, 1962, in Dubuque, son of Richard and Dorothy (Heri) Heber. He attended Wahlert Catholic High School and Flathead Valley Community College. He was united in marriage to Tresa Merfeld on June 16th, 1990, in Zwingle, Iowa. Dan worked as a Machinist and Maintenance Worker at Rite Hite in Dubuque.

He loved being outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, gardening, taking walks, or just sitting around the campfire. Dan had a knack for striking up conversation with everyone. He had many hobbies and was always happy to share his knowledge, or to lend a helping hand.

Above all, Dan loved his family.

Dan is survived by his wife of 33 years, Tresa, and their two children Mark (Destiny Taylor) Heber of DeWitt, Iowa and Megan (Javon Duarte) Heber of Coralville, Iowa, sisters Sue, Joan, and Linda, aunt Eileen Duehr, in-laws Eldon (Connie) Merfeld, Jay (Angel Schiffer) Merfeld, Brett (Julie) Merfeld, Jenifer (Ed) Pickel, and Tom Merfeld, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard & Dorothy Heber, mother-in-law Sue Merfeld, and sister-in-law Iris Merfeld.

In lieu of flowers, a Daniel L. Heber Memorial Fund has been established.
