Dr. Paul G. Pechous
Dr. Paul G. Pechous, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Stonehill Health Center on Friday, January 13, 2023.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21st, 2023, at St. Raphael Cathedral.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21st at St. Raphael Cathedral with Msgr. Thomas E. Toale, officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Chapel Mausoleum at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is assisting the family.
Paul was the oldest of five children born to George and Celeste (Lynch) Pechous on April 29th, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended a one-room schoolhouse through eighth grade, followed by St. Patrick’s High School in Iowa City, IA. He graduated from St. Ambrose College where he did his pre-medical studies. While in college at St. Ambrose, he met his future wife Nancy, and they were married on June 25th, 1955.
After graduating from St Ambrose, he went on to the University of Iowa medical school, graduating in 1958. After medical school, he joined the United States Public Health Service, eventually completing a residency in Ophthalmology. Much of his time in the Public Health Service was spent in New Orleans. One of his highlights was spending six weeks in the North Atlantic as a ship’s surgeon on a Coast Guard cutter. Paul was honorably discharged from the Public Health Service in 1967 having achieved the rank of Commander.
He and Nancy then moved their family to Dubuque to start his private practice in Ophthalmology. His Ophthalmology career began in 1967, continuing until he retired in 2014.
Paul served as President of the Dubuque County Medical Society, the Mercy Hospital Medical Staff, and the Xavier Hospital Medical Staff. He spent many years as the Dubuque local physician representative for Mercy Hospital’s Corporation.
In addition to his involvement in the medical community, Paul served in other areas, including several terms on the Board of Directors for Clarke University. He was active with Dubuque County Right to Life and St Raphael Cathedral, where he was a member for 32 years. He was a volunteer pallbearer with St Vincent DePaul Society, a member of the Serra Club, and a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jesus.
Paul and Nancy loved to see the world. Their travels took them to the Holy Land, Thailand, Japan, Canada, and Europe. They spent over 20 years wintering in Naples, Florida. Family vacations were especially important to Paul and Nancy. They took their children on trips throughout the United States during their lifetime.
In addition to traveling, Paul’s hobbies and passions included being an avid collector of Dubuque history and memorabilia, collecting clocks, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, theater-especially Broadway musicals, gourmet cooking, genealogy, reading, and gardening (you could take the boy out of the farm, but you couldn’t take the farm out of the man). Swimming was not one of his hobbies; Paul claimed to be the only member of his St Ambrose graduating class not required to pass the school swim test.
Living on the bluff in Dubuque was a dream of Paul’s. He fulfilled this dream and was able to start each day watching the Mississippi River roll along from his home on the bluff.
Paul was preceded in death by Nancy just 37 days prior to his own. They had been married for 67 years.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ed Pechous and Raymond Pechous, his sister Mary Ellen (Nicky) Irving, and granddaughter Brianna Pechous.
Paul is survived by his 6 children, Bryan (Krynn) of Dubuque, Iowa; Stephen of Las Vegas, Nevada; Carol (Edward) McEleney of Iowa City, Iowa; John of Dubuque, Iowa; Robert (Sandy) of Indio, California; and Annette (David) Barton of Dubuque, Iowa; his sister Margaret Goss; brothers-in-law Jerry Irving, Tom Bryant, and Bill Saunders, and his sisters-in-law Marilyn Pechous and Mary Pechous.
Paul is also the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren, Christina (Rick), Paul (Sarah), Creighton (Sarah), Alexander (Calla), Devin (Brett), Bianca, Briana (deceased), Melina, Karina, George, Charlie, Elena, and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations can be made to The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and Dubuque County Right to Life.

James G. Schreiner
James G. “Jim” Schreiner, age 90, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on January 10, 2023, at Stonehill Care Center. To honor Jim’s life, a private family service is being held. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jim’s family.
Jim was born on May 7, 1932, in Bellevue, IA, a son to Herbert J. and Irene T. (Reistroffer) Schreiner. He had a strong work ethic and an even stronger devotion to his family. Jim was a naturally born patriarch in the truest sense of the word and his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was always on display and continues to be vividly present within the generations which follow. Jim found the love of his life, Yvonne E. “Bonnie” Biehl, and the two have been a loving and committed couple ever since and we’re poised to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this August. In their younger years, Jim and Bonnie were regularly involved in bowling together and Jim was quite active with Resurrection Church. He also enjoyed a little skeet-shooting when time allowed to help him with his pheasant hunts. Jim proudly spent the majority of his time though working to provide for his family while Yvonne was able to stay home to nurture their young family. Jim was an electrical technician for Bell Telephone primarily, but never allowing idle hands to interfere with his family’s joy in life, Jim also had a tv repair business and owned and managed multiple apartment buildings to keep life comfortable. Jim and Bonnie were blessed to spend 19 years wintering together in Tampa, FL, after finally moving into retirement and the memories they collected after all those years of hard work and determination were both welcomed, and earned. Jim has faithfully spent the most recent years helping to care for his dear Bonnie as well. The two have been inseparable and to say that the two have become one is beyond evident to all who know them. It’s heartbreaking to think of moving forward without Jim’s wisdom, love, and example leading the way, but we know and truth that the Lord has a plan in all things and that Jim now resides in peace as he patiently awaits our arrival as well. Thank you, Jim, for all that you have taught us through your words, thoughts, and actions and may the Lord keep you safe in His loving arms as we seek peace and healing within the bounty of memories you leave behind. God bless and God speed Jim!
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Jim include,

Wayne C. Konrardy
Wayne C. Konrardy, age 75, of Dubuque, passed away unexpectedly at 1:45 a.m., on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at MercyOne Dubuque. To honor Wayne’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road with Rev. Phillip G. Gibbs officiating. Entombment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, where full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6.
Wayne was born on June 10, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Clarence and Alecia (Kingsley) Konrardy.
Wayne graduated from Holy Rosary High School in La Motte. He was proud to have recently been awarded an honorary Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Dubuque. After high school, Wayne signed up to serve his country with the U.S. Air Force. When he was a young man home on leave, Wayne made a life changing decision to go on a blind date. It turned out to be the best move he ever made as he met the woman of his dreams that night. Wayne made that wonderful woman, Mary Ann Laugesen, his wife on January 14, 1967, at Mountain Home Air Force Base. After he was discharged from the service he worked at Trausch Bakery and later Apple River Chemical Company for 10 years. Wayne had the ability to talk to anyone. He went on to put that talent to good use as a salesman at Dan Kruse and then Runde Chevrolet for several years until his well earned retirement in 2012. He truly loved his work and all of the friends and coworkers he met along the way. Wayne’s faith was an important part of his life and he was a member of the Church of the Resurrection. In his free time he enjoyed watching the birds at his feeders and sports on TV. Wayne liked the Hawkeyes, but he was a die hard Boise State fan who religiously followed the team. He recently had the honor of receiving a VIP experience to the University for a football game, where he was presented a signed football from the team after the game. His family was no doubt the most important aspect of Wayne’s life. He loved traveling with Mary and the entire family, and everyone knew how much he loved his grandchildren. Wayne had a bigger than life personality and made everyone around him feel special. He will be greatly missed!
