John L. Weis
John LeRoy Weis passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the age of 82, after a brief illness at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. He was born to John Jacob and Alma (Lovin) Weis on August 10, 1940, at Booth Memorial Hospital in Goodland, Kansas. John attended Edison Community School and graduated in 1958. He later went to telegraph operator school in Pueblo, Colorado. After graduation he went to work for Rock Island Railroad as an agent and telegraph operator.
In 1962, John settled in Guthrie Center and began working for Guthrie County Road Department as well as purchasing an acreage where he raised feeder pigs and cattle. John retired from the county in 1998 and moved to Delaware County. In 2003, he was united in marriage to the love of his live, Roberta (Timmerman) Lewis.
John enjoyed fishing, traveling in the mountains of South Dakota and the western United States. He also enjoyed woodworking and remodeling. John completely remodeled his Guthrie Center home and when he moved to Manchester, he rebuilt Bert’s kitchen and bathroom. He also made numerous pieces of beautiful furniture.
John is survived by his wife, Roberta Weis; two daughters, Brenda Broyer, of Grimes and Kim Pruitt, of Stewart; six stepchildren, Judy (Gary) Dittrick of Manchester, Julie (Dave) Steinbron of Jesup, Kenny (Jill) Lewis of Manchester, Brenda (Mark) Lewis-Morehouse of Evansdale, Lynn (Kim) Lewis of Quasquetion, and Jim (Toni) Lewis of Manchester; 19 step-grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister, Lena Buttler of St. Frances, Kansas and sister-in-law, Jan Weis of Goodland, Kansas and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Brad Weis in 2006, his brother, Don and sister, Mary.

Keith A. Thompson
Keith Allen Thompson, 88 of rural Shullsburg, WI passed away Friday, October 28, 2022, at Lafayette Manor, Darlington, WI. In keeping with Keith’s wishes, there will be no public services. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery, New Diggins, WI at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Home, Shullsburg is assisting the family.
He was born October 7, 1934, in New Diggings the son of Walter and Grace (Haser) Thompson. Keith and his parents moved to their family farm in 1941. He graduated from Shullsburg High School with the class of 1952. Keith enjoyed farming, playing bingo, and watching sports on TV.
He is survived by his brother, Chuck, his sister, Norene (Marlin) Pfeil, and three nephews, Doug (Susan) of West Des Moines, IA, Jim (Kari) of Delavan, WI, and Mike (Stephanie) of Evansville, WI.

Bonnie L. Kallenberger
Bonnie L. Kallenberger, 80, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, October 28, 2022, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A private family graveside service and burial celebrating her life will be held at Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa. Cremation has taken place. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Bonnie Lou Kallenberger was born on November 8, 1941 in Clinton, Iowa, to Amos and Myrtle (Flagel) Kallenberger Sr. She was a graduate of Maquoketa High School receiving her diploma later in life. In her younger years she had babysat children and worked as a housekeeper. She then worked as inspector for Hoffman Eggs in Maquoketa, and later retired from HOOF Products in Maquoketa.
Bonnie enjoyed sewing and making things, loved animals, and was a John Wayne fan.

Daniel E. Boyd
Daniel E. “Dan” Boyd, 77, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, October 25, 2022, in Maquoketa.
A celebration of his life is pending and will be announced soon. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Daniel Edward Boyd was born on August 15, 1945 in Rock Island, Illinois to Edward Benjamin and Reba Christina (Bryner) Boyd. He was a 1963 graduate of Rock Island High School and had attended Blackhawk College. Dan married Teresa Derricks from 1965 – 1976. Dan then married Helen Hutchison from 1980 – 2005. From 2007 until his passing, Dan’s soulmate and life partner was Elizabeth Eichner.
Dan was a draftsman by trade and had worked for various companies in the Quad Cities most notably for the City of Davenport for over 25 years as a Traffic Technician.
Dan had been a member of the AFSCME Union and served as the Chief Union Steward for the City of Davenport. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs, and all animals loved him. He was known as a “foodie” who loved fine dining and was a connoisseur of libations, often striking up conversations with anyone on the joys of a good meal and a cocktail. Dan enjoyed all types of music but mostly Blues. He traveled to various locations throughout the Quad Cities and Bellevue, IA to listen to many great blues musicians.
Those left to honor his memory include his life partner, Elizabeth Eichner of Davenport, IA; step-children, Joshua (Heather Sanderson) Hutchison of Iowa City, IA, Sarah (Joseph Desch) Johanson of Bettendorf, IA, and Roger (Erin) Daniel of Bettendorf, IA; 3 grandchildren with one on the way in March, Elizabeth, Raven and Serenity; 1 great-grandson, Olyver; niece and nephews, T.J. Hargrave of Scottsdale, AZ, Tom Hargrave of AZ, and Roger (Dea) Hargrave of Coyne Center, IL; great-nieces and a great-nephew; many great-great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Hemi. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marilyn, a niece Debbie Lynn, and many of his beloved dogs.

Richard E. Long
Richard E. Long, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 27, 2022, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.
Per Richard’s request, a celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday, November 11 from 4:00 until 7:00 at Manny’s Pizza in Savanna, Illinois. A second celebration of life luncheon will be held on Sunday, November 13 from noon until three o’clock at Huckleberry’s Restaurant in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. The second celebration will be followed by a private burial. Family and friends are encouraged to attend one or both of the celebrations. Cremation has taken place. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Richard Eugene Long was born on April 14, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Clato and Mildred (Kautman) Long. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and then moved to Marquette, Iowa where he graduated from Marquette-McGregor High School. He married the love of his life Mary Jill Sandleback on January 3, 1959 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. They celebrated 61 years of marriage together.
Richard had worked for over 30 years on the railroad. He first worked as a brakeman, then as a conductor, and finally as an engineer. Throughout his railway career he had been employed by the Milwaukee Railroad, Soo Lines Railroad, and the Canadian Pacific Railroad until retirement. Richard liked to stay busy, and in retirement he worked as a cashier for Cracker Barrel in The Villages, Florida for several years.
Richard was a member of the Dubuque, Iowa Walleye Club. He enjoyed traveling and dancing with his wife, hunting, and fishing for catfish and walleye. In recent years, he spent a lot of time fishing with his good friend and cousin, Greg Kautman and visiting with family and old friends. He especially enjoyed time spent with his three grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
Those left to honor his memory include a son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Jane Long of Maquoketa, IA; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Long of Monticello, IA; 3 grandchildren, Andrew Long of Maquoketa, IA, Lucas Long of Marion, IA, and Tara (Mitch) Miller of Monticello, IA; 2 great-grandchildren, Braelynn Miller and Leighton Miller; brothers, Clato (Phyllis) Long Jr. of Prairie Du Chien, WI, and Lawrence Long of Lansing, IA; and a sister, Shirley Long of LaCrosse, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Jill Long on May 17, 2020, a son Scott Long, brothers Robert and William Long, and a sister Mary Long.

James R. Nadermann
James R., “Jim” Nadermann, 87, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Good Neighbor Society at Marietta’s Place, Manchester, Iowa.
Visitation will be held 3 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where the American Legion Post #137 will hold a service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 – 10 a.m., at the funeral home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 3, 2022 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial to follow in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #137. Rev. Philip Agyei will officiate.
Jim was born March 19, 1935, in Dyersville, Iowa the son of Matthew and Eleanora (Beckman) Nadermann. He married Constance Sarris on February 21, 1957 in Dyersville.
Jim attended school in Dyersville and received an Associate’s Degree in Marketing at Northeast Iowa Community College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the American Legion Post #137.
Before retiring, he was a foreman at Tri-State Paving Company, and worked at Dubuque Packing Company, Schiltz Construction, and the Dyersville Commercial.
Survivors include his daughters, Joanie Nadermann of Houston, TX, Kim (Don) Knepper of Dyersville, IA, grandchildren: Katie (Alan) Stillmunkes, Dana (Kevin) Johnson, and Tyler Knepper, greatgrandchildren: Olivia and Alaina Stillmunkes, Henry, Nora, and Nolan Johnson, siblings: Tom (Helen) Nadermann and Germaine Reed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, John and Vasiliki Sarris, his wife, Connie in 2013, infant son, Matthew James Nadermann, siblings: Elmer (Juanita) Nadermann, Leo (Dorothy) Nadermann, Lavern (Agnes) Nadermann, Robert (Jenny) Nadermann, Eileen (Sylvester) Rauen, Imelda Smith, Bernice (Dean) Garretson, and a brother-in-law, Bob Reed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ellen Kennedy Living Center and at Marietta’s Place in Manchester for their compassionate care.

James R. Fitzgerald
James R. “Jim” Fitzgerald, age 63, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on October 29, 2022, at MercyOne in Dubuque, with his loving family by his side. To honor Jim’s life, a private family service is being held. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jim’s family.
Jim was born on June 10, 1959, in Dubuque, IA, one of three sons to James C. and Carol D. (Barton) Fitzgerald. He always enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and being surrounded by family and loved ones whenever possible. Jim worked at A.Y. McDonald for many years, but truly would have rather been in the kitchen at home making his next homemade pizza for all to enjoy. Add in a little time on the motorcycle, or working on projects around the home and Jim was as content as he could be in this life. His greatest joy though really was having Martha and all their family members close by to savor each day and the blessings within it. We will miss Jim more than words could say and treasure every memory he leaves behind now. Thank you, Jim, for keeping life uncomplicated and may the Lord keep you safe in His loving arms until we all meet again.

Joyce S. Thul
Joyce S. (Zahina) Thul, age 80, of Dubuque, passed away at 7:20 p.m., on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. In keeping with Joyce’s wishes there will not be a public visitation or service. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is assisting the family.
Joyce was born on September 27, 1942, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Fred and Agnes (Schuster) Zahina.
Joyce was united in marriage to William Thul on September 26, 1964, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque. They were blessed with 5 children and celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last month. She was a hard worker and was employed as a Candy Striper at Xavier Hospital and later in the Housekeeping Department at Stonehill Care Center. Joyce had many hobbies throughout her life. She enjoyed playing Skipbo and Space Invaders on her vintage Atari, crocheting blankets and dolls and collecting Precious Moments. She liked eating her Lays potato chips and trying her luck at the Bingo hall and the local casinos. She also raised canaries and conure birds for most of her life. She enjoyed the simple things in life like staying home and drinking a nice hot cup of coffee. Visitors always knew there would be a pot of coffee on and waiting for them. We are saddened at losing Joyce, but know that she is resting peacefully, free of all the health issues she has faced these past years.

Wanda M. Remakel
Wanda Mae Remakel, 88, of Dubuque, passed away at 1:30 am on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Columbkille Catholic Church with her grandson, Reverend Joshua J. Link officiating. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery where she will join her beloved husband. Family and friends may gather from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to mass. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, IA is assisting the family.
Wanda was born in Springbrook, IA on August 7, 1934, daughter of Delores (Wise) and Lester Kilburg. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School.
She was united in marriage to Donald J. Remakel on April 25, 1953 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook. The two were blessed with 68 wonderful years together until Don’s death on January 3, 2021. Wanda was a devoted wife and mother. She took great pride in caring for her children and grandchildren. She cherished her family and never missed an opportunity to show them love and attention. While raising her family, Wanda worked in the office at Dubuque Packing Company and the Driver’s License Bureau. She retired from office work at Sieg Automotive Parts in 1992 to stay home and babysit her grandchildren. In addition, she also managed Remakel Properties, where she treated her tenants like family.
Wanda was a strong, faith-filled woman. Prior to her illness, she attended daily Mass and was an active parishioner at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. It was her mission to share her strong Catholic faith with her children. She never let her illness slow her down and had a tenacious determination that never wavered.
Wanda was a very creative woman and liked to stay busy. She loved making quilts, cooking, baking and preparing a special meal for someone. Wanda was very strong-willed, and on many occasions, quite feisty. She always spoke her mind and had a great sense of humor. Most importantly, Wanda was incredibly generous, caring and loving. She would do anything for her family and loved ones.
Surviving are her three children, Jonathan (Julie) Remakel of Dubuque, Brian Remakel of Johnston, IA, and Angella (Brian) Link of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Stephany (Phil) Elking of Lakewood, Ohio, Hope (Zach) Kracke of Dubuque, Andrew Remakel of Dubuque, Caitlin Osier of Johnston, Christopher Remakel of Johnston, Reverend Joshua Link of Clear Lake, IA, and Jessica (Carter) Boekholder of Dubuque; and two great grandsons, Samuel Osier of Johnston and Calvin Kracke of Dubuque and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three siblings; Lois Reedy, Darlene Kral and Wayne Kilburg, and her daughter-in-law, Cathy Remakel.
A special thank you to Wanda’s primary caregiver, Phyllis Freiburger, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kristen, Stephanie, and Peggy and all of her caregivers who looked after her with kindness and love. They made it possible to honor Wanda’s wishes to remain at home until her death.
Joan M. Klein
Joan M. (Gibbons) Klein, age 86, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully at 3:30 a.m., on Friday, October 28, 2022, at MercyOne Dubuque. To honor Joan’s life, family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday at Behr Funeral Home with Sr. Margaret Anne Kramer officiating.
Joan was born on September 2, 1936, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Joseph T. and Lucille F. (Krocheski) Gibbons.
Joan went to Holy Ghost Grade School and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, Class of 1954. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Louis Klein, on September 29, 1956. When she was young she began working at Kresge’s and later went to work at Dupaco Community Credit Union. In 1968, the family moved to Forest, Wisconsin, to be closer to extended family members. While there she ran the WESTCAP retail store. In 1983, they would move out to Colorado where Joan went to work for the Cherry Creek School System running the daycare. She loved children and babies making this job the perfect fit for her. She enjoyed living in Colorado and even became a die hard Denver Broncos fan. After 20 years in Colorado, Louis became ill and they returned to Dubuque where she continued caring for children through the Foster Grandparent Program. Joan was a social butterfly and loved getting together for pot luck dinners, playing Euchre and Bingo with family and friends and attending Bible study. Her faith was very important to her, and Joan was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s Church. Family was always the most important aspect of Joan’s life and she cherished all of the time she spent with them. She especially enjoyed traveling to Virginia and Florida to visit. Joan was a wonderful woman and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jessica Fleckenstein
Jessica “Shorty” Fleckenstein, 38, of East Dubuque, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque after a 2 1/2 year courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Funeral Service for Shorty will be 10:00 am Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Stephanie Ells officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens in Dubuque.
Jessica was born February 13, 1984, in Dubuque, the daughter of Brian and Cynthia Clancy Strang. On June 22, 2013, she married Matt Fleckenstein in Dubuque.
She was a 2002 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Shorty loved spending time with her best friend Sarah and kayaking, and also spending time with her friends, Bobbie Jo, Brandy, Stephanie, Dawn “Blondie” and she cherished time with her family. She was diehard Dallas Cowboys fan.
Survivors include her husband, Matt, son, Dylan “Bugga Butt”at home; father, Brian (Kim Kluesner) Strang of Dubuque, brother, William “Billy” (Sarah) Patrum, Jr. of Dubuque; step-sister, Krystal Hesseling of Dubuque; grandmother, Darlene Minor of Harlingen, TX; in-laws, Bob and Joyce Fleckenstein of East Dubuque, IL; sister-in-law, Jessica (Cory) Kennedy of Dubuque; nieces and nephews, Olivia Kennedy, Elijah Kennedy, Carter Patrum, Paige Patrum, Kaylee Hume, Ayden, and Ky’Ann.
She was preceded in death by her mother Cynthia Strang; maternal grandfather, Joseph Clancy; paternal grandparents, Joe and Jan Strang; and nephew Caden Patrum.

Robert E. Siegert
Robert E. “Bob” Siegert, 96, of Dubuque, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 2nd at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1st, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road.
Bob was born on June 25, 1926, in Dubuque, son of Leo and Lorraine (Stillmunkes) Siegert. He married Virginia (Ginny) Engler on April 14, 1951, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. Together, Bob and Ginny worked the family farm until their retirement in 1989. Bob loved to work the land, cared for his livestock, and took pride in having his crops in early. Bob was a jack-of-all trades when it came to fixing things, was an excellent card player, and loved Chicago Cubs baseball.
During his earlier years, Bob was an avid bowler and was a member of numerous bowling leagues, enjoyed playing golf, and enjoyed a good card party. After his retirement from farming, Bob taught himself woodworking and made numerous pieces of beautiful furniture for family members. He enjoyed reading suspense novels and working Sudoku puzzles. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and grand-pups. Bob always did his best, always treated others with respect, understood that kindness goes a long way, and always wanted everyone to just get along.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert (Michelle), of Victoria, MN, his daughters, Patricia Neyens (Carroll Lotz) of Tempe, AZ, Julie Siegert (Julian Ashton) of Palo Alto, CA, and Mary Beth (Bess) Hinz of Dubuque; granddaughters, Janice Wright (Ken) of Tempe, AZ, and Samantha Siegert, Vancouver, WA; grandsons, Andy and Dan Usher of Cedar Rapids; great grandchildren Lauren, Matthew, and Nathan Replogle of Cary, NC; his new grand-pup, Leo; sister Marlene Brimeyer of Dubuque; sisters-in-law Sharon Newton, Betti Engler and Betty Tigges; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, of 62 yrs; his son David Michael Siegert; grandson Nicholas Usher; his beloved grand-pup and companion, Charlie; his parents; his brothers and sister-in-law, Arnold & June Siegert and Al Siegert; his sisters and brothers-in-law LaVina & Bob Kleis, Sally & George Reavell, Loretta & Eldon Bahl; his brothers-in-law, LaVerne Brimeyer; his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Joan & William Nebel, Eugene Engler, and Bernard Newton; and his in-laws Earl & Stella Engler.

Dorothy A. Brady
Dorothy A. Brady, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 27, 2022, at The Summit in Bettendorf, Iowa.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.
Dorothy was born on October 19, 1930 in Iowa. She married Harold Brady on June 1, 1968 in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Dorothy had first worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa on the assembly line and later for Bliss Eagle Signal in Davenport.
Dorothy enjoyed sewing and was an avid supporter of the Democratic Party.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Wilfred Michael “Wil” (Katherine) Carew of Cedar Rapids, IA, James David (Donna) Carew of Iowa City, Iowa, and Susie (Les) Shollenberger of Davenport, IA; 3 grandchildren, Erin (Damon) Strickland, Nicholas (Joalene) Carew and Tyler Shollenberger; 2 great-grandchildren, Evan and Paige Strickland; and 3 step-great-grandchildren, Audrey, Ellie and Livian Grissel.

William T. Hocking
William “Bill” Thomas Hocking of Galena, IL passed away peacefully on October 28, 2022, with his family by his side. A gathering will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 5 to 7 PM, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena. The burial will be later. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Bill was born September 24, 1933, in New Diggings, WI. He mostly attended school in New Diggings but was a 1955 graduate of Scales Mound High School, Scales Mound, IL. Bill was united in marriage to Norma Jean Doherty on October 22, 1955, at the Holy Ghost Church, Dubuque, IA, and has been married for sixty-seven years. After marriage, Bill served in the United States Navy from December 1955 until August 1957. He worked in the mines for six years before being employed at John Deere, Dubuque, where he retired after thirty-two years. He was a public servant for Galena as part of the original Galena Ambulance Service established in 1978. He was a St. Michael Catholic Church member, serving on the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, and a Choir Member. He was also a member of The Galena Elks Lodge. Bill’s highest priority and joy in life was his family. He enjoyed spending time traveling, hunting, and fishing, among many other things with his family. Those traditions continue today in the Hocking family.
Bill is survived by his wife Norma Jean Hocking, and deeply loved his children, Mike (Cheri) Hocking of Keosauqua, IA, Rick (Mary) Hocking of Galena, IL, Kathy (Lauren) Hocking of Oviedo, FL, Pat (Melissa) Hocking of Lisbon, IA, and Jeanna (Chris) Gunning of Ashland, KY, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anastasia (Alderson) Hocking, siblings, Darlene Bergeron of Roscoe, IL, Alice Smith of Freeport, IL, Shirley Harris of New Diggings, Wesley “Jim” Hocking of Hazel Green, WI, Jane Alderson of Benton, WI and Phyllis Speaker of Menominee, IL.

Richard J. Francois
Richard “Dick” Joseph Francois, 88, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on October 26th, 2022, at Luther Manor in Dubuque.
Friends and family may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday October 30th, 2022, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, IA. A private family burial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Richard was born on November 26th, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Vincent and Helen (Morgan) Francois. He married Darlene Gerhard on September 25th, 1953, in Dubuque.
He was employed at the Dubuque Packing Company for 47 years.
He is survived by his five children Sue Francois of Dubuque, Shari (Mike) Price of Belmont, WI, Sandy (Jeff) Wesenberg of Dubuque, Shelly Francois of Dubuque, and Steven Francois of Dubuque. Six grandchildren Noel (Jill) Fries, Tressa (Dennis) Pergande, Jenna (CJ) Krapfl, Matt Price, Ryan Francois, and Alex (Corinne) Wesenberg. Seven great-grandchildren Damien (Erica) Fries, Brett Fries, Bryce (Sadie) Taylor, Hailey Tracy, Madalyn Tracy, William Krapfl, and Jaxon Price. Five great-great-grandchildren Sonni, Ryder, Gunner, Colt, and Baby on the way Wylder Joseph. His sister Linda (Jim) Burridge, Brothers Robert Francois and James (Janey) Francois, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene on July 25th, 1992, his parents Vincent and Helen, great-granddaughter Hailey, and siblings Vince, Jean, Virginia, Ronnie, and Roger.
Thank you to all the health care workers that assisted Richard these past couple of years.
Dick was a member of the Dubuque CB Club, he was a Cub Scout Leader Pack 14 in East Dubuque, he volunteered with the Dubuque Drum & Bugle Corp and The Dubuquettes
Drill Team.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He always put his family first and family get togeathers were so important to him. Throughout the years he enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. He loved to vacation every year with his children out to Denver, CO to visit his parents & sibblings. He loved Polka, Big Band and old Country & Western Music. He also loved watching B Westerns from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. He loved spending time with his family going to Dirt Track racing. Him & his son had Hawkeye Football season tickets for years and attended many games. He also enjoyed old Steam & Model Trains.
He will be greatly missed by all, especially his family.
