Clarence V. Weber

Clarence V. Weber 78 of Hazel Green, WI passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community in Galena.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11th, and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where the Scripture Service will be said at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Fr. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Hazel Green, WI.

Clarence was born on July 3, 1943 to Raymond and Loretta (Weiland) Weber in Fairplay, WI. He married Constance (Roth), his bride of 58 years on February 16, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Dubuque, IL. Together they raised three children on their family farm near Hazel Green.

Clarence retired from Flexsteel Industries after 45 years of service to the company and also enjoyed farming. He retired from farming in 1993.

Clarence enjoyed horseback riding, camping and UTV trips with family and friends. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Clarence is survived by his wife Connie (Roth) Weber; children: Sherry (Paul) Homb, Scales Mound, IL; Shelly (Jeff) Reuter, Hazel Green, WI; and Steven (Lori) Weber, Hazel Green, WI; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his sister Donna Mae Neyen-Shea, Dubuque, IA; his brother Joseph Weber, Hazel Green, WI; sister-in-law Karen Roth, East Dubuque, IL and his brother-in-law Dan Carroll, Elizabeth, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Loretta (Weiland) Weber, his sister Janet Carroll; his parents-in-law Dorrance and Edna (Metzger) Roth and brother in-laws Bill Neyen Sr. and James Shea; and his niece Kimberly (Klaas) Munson.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the wonderful Staff at Finley Hospital, Dr. Ryan Elsey and Hospice Services at Galena Stauss Nursing Home for their care and guidance.

Audrey J. Upmeyer

Audrey J. Upmeyer, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 23, 2020, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 24, 2021, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa.  A luncheon will immediately follow in the church social room.  A private burial was held at Oakland Cemetery, Solon, Iowa.  The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is in charge of the arrangements.

Audrey Jean Lenz was born on July 2, 1928 in Freeport, Illinois to Alvin H. and Ruth L. (Farnam) Lenz.  She was a 1946 graduate of Freeport High School and a 1949 graduate of the University of Iowa School of Nursing.  She married her college sweetheart William D. “Bill” Upmeyer on November 5, 1949 in Freeport, Illinois.  Three children were born to this union, David, Cathryn and Steven.

Audrey worked as a registered nurse for many years and took great pride in being one of the first nurses who opened the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.  She maintained relationships with many of her nursing colleagues from those years.

Audrey was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Registered Nurse Club, Mother’s Club, PTA and had delivered Meals-on-Wheels for many years.  She enjoyed sewing and baking.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, David (Peg) Upmeyer of Grosse Pointe, MI, Cathryn (William) Rickard of Smyrna, NY, and Steven (Jane) Upmeyer of Indianapolis, IN; 4 granddaughters, Julie (Johnathan) Lewis, Dianne (Shawn) Larson, Amy (Josh) Smith, and Staci (Jack) Laski; 6 great-grandchildren, Meredith Jane Smith, Meyer Daniel Smith, Margot Jean Laski, Ffion Audrey Lewis, Nesta Wynn Lewis, and Clark Gilgamesh Larson; a brother, James (Susanne) Lenz of Chicago, IL; 3 nephews, Robert (Nancy) Upmeyer, Eric Upmeyer and Carl (Rhonda) Upmeyer; and a nephew-in-law Roger Beermann.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William “Bill” Upmeyer on June 15, 2016, and a niece Anne Beermann.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous of Iowa, First Lutheran Church, or to the William and Audrey Upmeyer Family Scholarship Fund (through the Community Foundation of Jackson County).

Wayne J. Roth

Wayne J. Roth, 75, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, June 14, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, in Iowa City.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2021 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dubuque, where mass will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.  Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is assisting the family.

Wayne was born April 28, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Oswald “Ozzie” and Lillian (Welter) Roth. He graduated from East Dubuque High School, where he enjoyed playing football, basketball, and hanging out with his classmates. He joined the National Guard in 1966 and served for 7 years. He married Susan “Sue” Andrews, on November 12, 1966, in East Dubuque. They resided in Dubuque.

Wayne was employed at Flexsteel as an upholsterer in D&E for 47 years. He loved the challenge of his job and was proud of his profession. He was devoted to his Catholic faith. Wayne was quiet and kind, although he could hit you with a funny line or joke.

Wayne enjoyed watching his Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Golf. He loved going to gigs, where his son, Stephen, played drums with several bands, talking sports with his daughter Michelle, and working with his daughter Kristi, at Flexsteel. He enjoyed going out to eat with our close friends and having a beer with his friend, Jim, at the Dog House. He was a wonderful and loving husband and father. His passion was caring for his dog, Jack. Those two were inseparable! Wayne was an organ donor and was able to help 100 people through his gift of donating. He was so loved and will be missed by family and friends.

Wayne is survived by his Wife, Sue, Daughter, Michelle (Mark) SteIken, Daughter, Kristi Roth, and Son, Stephen (JuIie) Roth; Grandchildren, Alex, Jonathon (Brooke), and Jacob Stelken, Adam and Chase Reisen, Lindzy (Hunter) Swift, Christopher and Andrew Roth, and nephews and nieces.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Carol Fleckenstein, brother-in-law, Jim Fleckenstein, and a Niece, Traci.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the Dubuque Humane Society and University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

The family wishes to thank the Finley Hospital Emergency Room staff and University of Iowa Hospitals staff for their kindness and compassion.

 


 

John J. Geber

John J. Geber, 77, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.  At Peace Cremation Services have been provided by Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa and a private burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

John Joseph Geber was born on December 27, 1943 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Dorrance and Anastasia (Franzen) Geber.  He attended Maquoketa High School.  He married Cheryl Davison on March 25, 1967 in Maquoketa, Iowa.  Three children were born to this union, Sue Anne, William and Nick.

John worked for many years as a carman welder, first for Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Clinton and then for Union Pacific Railroad in DeSoto, Missouri.  He retired in 2004.

John was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper.  He loved fishing for Catfish, Walleye and Bluegill, and hunting squirrels, rabbits and deer.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Cheryl Geber of Maquoketa, IA; children, Sue Anne (Scott) Handley of Des Moines, IA, William (Kristin) Geber of Des Moines, IA and Nick Geber of Maquoketa, IA; 3 granddaughters; 1 great-grandson; a brother, Dale (Carol) Geber of Clinton, IA; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Mary Clare Hicks.

Wilma L. Clausen

Wilma L. (Keil) Clausen, 101, of Bellevue, passed away on Tuesday, July 06, 2021 at Mill Valley Care Center.  Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Monday, July 12, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue.  Family will greet friends 9:00 am until service time also on Monday, July 12, 2021 at the church.  Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery in Clinton.

Wilma was born April 6, 1920 to Ardo and Elsie (Ehlers) Keil in rural Jackson County, Iowa.  She married Luverne Clausen on April 13, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Iowa, he passed away March 18, 2000.

Survivors include her children, Russell (Gloria) Clausen of Bellevue, Shirlaine (Ted) Dawson of Clinton, and Kay Strom of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Shane, Drew, Kyle and Trent Clausen, Darin and Eric Dawson, G. Dugan and Sarah Strom; great-grandchildren, Avery, Aidan, and Arianna Clausen, Keeley Clausen, Brett Dawson, and Kate Whittle; a great great-grandson, Ryan Roberts; siblings, Roger Keil and Shirley Hachmann; and a sister in-law, Arlene Keil.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son in-law, G. Dugan Strom; siblings, Harold Keil and Stanley Keil; a brother in-law, Scott Hachmann; and a sister in-law, Nancy Keil.

James L. Pihart

James Lester Pihart, age 83, of Dubuque, IA, left this world surrounded by his loving family on July 5th, after a short battle with cancer. A private family service will be held.  Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Jim was born on August 31, 1937, in Dubuque, the son of Lester and Mae (Otting) Pihart. On September 15, 1962, he married Mary Ann (Frommelt) Pihart, the love of his life, at Sacred Heart Church.

Jim grew up on Washington Street in the shadows of the former St. Mary’s school, which he attended as a child. He was a graduate of both Loras Academy in 1955, and Loras College in 1961. Jim and Mary Ann spent the first year of marriage in Duluth, Minnesota. Shortly after returning to Dubuque, Jim discovered his passion for teaching. He taught for over 30 years in the Holy Cross and Bellevue school districts and positively influenced the lives of his many students over the years.

Jim’s hobbies included traveling, fishing, antiquing and attending dinner theaters with Mary Ann. Trips to northern Minnesota and Wisconsin were always a favorite. Jim also enjoyed connecting with friends during morning coffee, gardening (in the early years) and was an avid reader. He loved spending time with his family, taking his grandchildren fishing and he will be remembered for his quick wit.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Mary Ann, of Dubuque; daughter, Michele (Joe) Schlueter, of Minnetonka, MN; 2 sons, Rob (Julie) Pihart of Edina, MN, and Mark (Liz) Pihart, of Hopkins, MN;  8 grandchildren: Sara (fiancé Ryan) Schlueter, of Blaine, MN, Emily (Charlie) Patterson, of Shakopee, MN, Katie Jo Schlueter, of River Falls, WI, Elliot and Ethan Pihart, of Edina, MN, and Charlie, Lilly and Matilda Pihart, all of Hopkins, MN; brothers in-law, Al (Maureen) Frommelt, and Paul (Donna) Frommelt; sisters in-law, Adele (Bob) Nicks, Rita (Rob) Woodham, Theresa (Roger) Herting, and Chris Frommelt (Regina Boarman); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mae Pihart; sister, Shirley Pihart; and In-laws, Leo and Gertrude Frommelt.

Sr. JoAnn Lohrman, OSF

Sister JoAnn (Vernon) Lohrman, OSF, passed away at 8:20 p.m., on July 6, 2021, at Clare House. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Born on September 25, 1930 in Oelwein, IA to Charles and Helen “Nellie” (Walsh) Lohrman. Entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 25, 1949 and made final profession of vows August 12, 1955. Sister studied at Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, IA. She ministered as a homemaker in Iowa at Rickardsville, Mapleton, New Hampton, and in Dubuque at Mary of the Angels, Loras College, Xavier Hospital, and Mercy Health Center.

Sister is survived by her nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary (Maurice) King, Gertrude (Clifford) Gardner, Imelda “Mel” Lohrman, and Agnes “Bernie” Lohrman; and her brothers Charles (Loretta) Lohrman and Edward (Maxine) Lohrman.

The Sisters of St. Francis express their thanks to Hospice of Dubuque for their care and concern.

Phillip R. Love

Phillip Robert “Phil” Love, 84, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on July 5, 2021, at MercyOne Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 9th, 2021, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Private family entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Phil was born on January 25, 1937, in Dubuque, IA the son of Harold and Helen (Muillius) Love.

Phil owned and operated many taverns in the area: Dell’s Tap, Old Main Hotel, Finale and lastly The Lounge. The lounge was famous for swampwater and popcorn which Phil referred to as “Prime Rib”.  Phil held the record for owning and operating the same bar, The Lounge.

He married Mary Jimenez; according to Mary he chased her faster than she could run.

Phil was always quick with a joke; WC Fields was Phil’s favorite comedian. He loved a cold diet coke, Cadillac’s, guns and planes. He taught his son at an early age to tap a keg. Phil was a perfect person to own a bar and was a great host.

In retirement he loved nothing more than sitting on his porch on Carter Road waving at the neighbors and chatting with the ladies who passed. He was called “soft lips” as he had a way with the ladies but always true to the love of his life Mary. He was beloved by many, and many lives were touched by Phil.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary love; children Kevin (Mary) Love, of Dubuque and Kathy Love of Cedar Rapids. Mary’s children Marie (Randy) Shireman, Patricia Bayars and Tom Clausen; three grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, twenty-one great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Anthony.

In lieu of flowers a Phillip Love memorial fund will be established.

William C. Portz

William (Bill) Clarence Portz, age 82 died Monday, July 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook.  Family will greet friends 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Friday, July 9, 2021 also at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook, additional visitation will begin 9:30 am Saturday at the church prior to Mass.  Burial will be in church cemetery.

Local arrangements entrusted to Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue.

Bill was born on August 25, 1938, the son of Clarence and Alma (Franzen) Portz in Bellevue, Iowa and was raised on a family farm near Bellevue, Iowa. He married Janice Kilburg on May 12, 1962 in Andrew, Iowa.

He served in the National Guard and is a member of the Andrew Amvets. He has been a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus. He farmed all of his life and worked numerous jobs as he was able.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and playing cards, but above all he enjoyed spending time with and took great pride in his family.

Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Janice; his children, Mike (Joy) Portz of Miles, Denise (Brian) Krogman of Preston, Jean (deceased), son-in-law Darrell (Megan) Thola of Clinton, Dale Portz of Spraguevillle, Julie (Paul) Serdar of Wadsworth, Illinois, and Patty (Mark) Petersen of Clinton; grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Krogman, Erica (Anthony) Greco, Samantha (Nathan) Tebo, Brooke (David) Jacobs, Megan Petersen, Whitney Petersen, Connor William Petersen, Joey Portz, and John Portz; great grandchildren, Riley and Tegan Krogman, Clifford William and Warner Tebo, and Landry Greco; siblings, Joan Jess, Russell (Lois) Portz, Jim (Betty) Portz, Clarence Portz, Jr., sister in-law Donn Ann Portz; and many extended relatives.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Alma (Franzen) Portz; two brothers, Robert (Judy) Portz and Wes Portz; daughter, Jean Thola; brother in-law, Don Jess; and dear friends, Wayne and Marty Hanson.

Elizabeth Heims

Elizabeth (Betty) Heims; A Celebration of Life

Betty Heims died a year ago on July 4th, 2020, in Edmonds, Washington at the age of eighty-seven. Due to the Corona Virus travel restrictions Betty has not been able to come home to her final resting place. On July 10th, 2021, Betty will be put to rest in Dyersville, Iowa. There will be a Funeral Mass at 10 am at Saint Francis Xavier Basilica, with burial at St. Francis Cemetery.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 58 years, Louis F. Heims; her son Tracy M. Heims (wife Ayda and daughter Ava) of Seattle, Wash.; her daughter Angela S. Conway (husband Gerald and children Claire and Nolan) of Stafford, Virginia; two siblings Barbara Clarke of Frisco, Texas and Donald Menster of Davenport.

 


 

Kristy A. Monahan

Kristy Ann Monahan, age 51, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed her earthly journey on July 6, 2021, at Dubuque Specialty Care, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Kristy’s life, a memorial service will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021, from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1111 Davis Street in Dubuque.  A private family burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Her family and friends will also be invited to a Celebration of Life for Kristy on July 28, 2021.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Kristy’s family.

Kristy was born on July 28, 1969, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Eugene “Mike” and Joyce (Jochum) Monahan.  She attended sacred heart and was a proud graduate of Hempstead High School, Class of ’87.   She completed her education at Clarke College with a degree is social work.  Kristy eventually moved to Carrolton, Missouri, and became a traveling supervisor for the Summit Corporation.  We will miss Kristy with all of our hearts and treasure every memory she leaves behind.

Kristy is survived by her children,  Kiera Monahan, Korey Monahan, Kelsey Monahan, Keenen Monahan, and Kalyn Gilbreath; her grandchildren, Kamarion Rucker, Khalia Rucker, Khiyah Myles, and Karianna Myles; her sister, Kelly Simpson, Appleton, WI; her Godmother, Geri (Paul) O’Connor, Urbandale, IA; her bestfriend, Shawn (Pat) McClain, Hazel Green, WI;  along with numerous extended family and friends.

Kristy was preceded in death by her significant other, Terry Harker; her parents, Mike and Joyce Monahan; her grandparents, Alfred and Lolita (Schmitt) Jochum and Mary Monahan; her aunt, Freda Jochum; her uncle, Tom Jochum; her cousins, Sara Jochum, Jessica Bennett, Elizabeth Klinkhammer, and Molly Schmidt; and her dear friend, Uncle Buddy.

Dr. Edwin A. Whitfield

Edwin (Ed) Whitfield, 83, of Overland Park, Kansas died on June 3, 2021 at KC Hospice House.  Ed was born to Edwin Allen and Mathilda (Richard) Whitfield on November 10, 1937 in Dubuque, Iowa.  Throughout his life he returned to Dubuque, a place he loved, to enjoy the city, the Mississippi River, and the family he treasured.

Ed graduated from Loras Academy in Dubuque.  He received a B.A. degree from Loras College, a M.Ed. from Ohio University at Athens, and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.  Ed began his long and beloved career in Guidance and Counseling with the San Diego Department of Education.  His passion for research, writing, and editing resulted in his being sought to consult and lead in his chosen field on the state and national level. His publications and leadership positions were numerous and included founder and first editor of the California Personnel and Guidance Journal.  In 1984 his career took him to Columbus, Ohio where he served education as an Associate Director with the State of Ohio Department of Education.  He was elected President of the National Career Development Association, served on the Ohio University Alumni Association, and was President of the Ohio Career Development Association.  Even after his retirement he volunteered to serve and lead publications in his chosen academic field.

While reading, learning and writing were his passions Ed still found time to enjoy gardening, golfing, fishing, and sharing his quiet wit and dry humor with friends and family.  He was a gentle and generous man who was preceded in death by his five siblings: Anne Genthe (Earl), Dorothy Frommelt, June Ackman (George), Richard Whitfield (Carla), and Robert Whitfield (Robyn).  He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Marjorie (Metzger), children Shauna Grayson (David), Hallie Palomares (Travis), and Eric Whitfield.  He also leaves three grandchildren. His many nieces and nephews were dear to him, especially his sister Anne’s children: Gary Genthe, Leann (Steve) Sabers, Susan Genthe, Nancy (Dale) Meyer, Mark Genthe and Jeff Genthe. Their attention and remembrances brought him great joy and comfort during his long illness.

A private memorial will be held at a future date in Dubuque, Iowa.

Elmer C. Klar

Elmer C. “Fritz” Klar, 67, of Hazel Green, WI passed away on July 4th, 2021, at home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 9th, 2021, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Derek Rosenstiel officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church until time of service. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Elmer was born on February 12, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Isadore and Kathryn (Jerrett) Klar. He graduated from Cuba City High School in 1972, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1983 from UW – Platteville, and in 1996 received his Master of Science – Cardinal Stritch.

Elmer had a career in Safety Management at John Deere, and Solae, Texas Petrochemicals and Dupont.

Fritz married Rhonda Hingtgen in 1976 and they had two sons, Jerrett and Jeffrey. His sons were his pride and joy both as children and as adults. He had a great passion for the outdoors. He spent time hunting, fishing, playing golf and riding his Harley.

In 2010 he married Joanne in Pryor, OK. When Fritz retired in 2016 they moved to Texas to spend winters and returned to Wisconsin every summer. He left us all with great memories to hold in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife Joanne Klar; two sons Jerrett (Jacquelyn) Klar, of Hickory Creek, TX, and Jeffrey (Nikki) Klar, of Dubuque; his brother James Klar, of Benton, WI, sister Christine (Ron) Schlosser, of Dubuque, stepdaughter Jennifer (Nick) Deutsch, of Houston, Texas; stepson Daniel Pitts, of Willis, Texas; grandchildren, Vivienne and Winston Klar and Andrew Fritz Klar (his name sake); step-grandchildren Makenzie Pitts, Ella, Adelyn and Henry Deutsch, many loved nieces and nephews and Arnold Alt who held a special place in Fritz’s heart.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Joseph Klar and Bob Mether.

Memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Brain Tumor Association.

Rebecca M. Shady

Rebecca M. “Becky” Shady, 61, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday afternoon, July 2, 2021, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating “Becky’s” life will be held from 4 to 6 P.M. on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Cremation will follow the gathering and a private burial will be held at Streets Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

Rebecca Meta Streets was born on May 22, 1960 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Dale Eugene and Caroline Bridget (Hintz) Streets.  She was a 1978 graduate of Delwood High School.

“Becky” had various jobs through the years most notably at Casey’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken and for the longest time at Take Two Video in Maquoketa.

“Becky” enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and the other love of her life, Steve Rowan.  She also liked ATV riding, going on country drives and mowing.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, John (Danielle) Streets of Maquoketa, Dale (and fiance April Frost) Shady of Maquoketa, IA, and Stephanie (fiance Ben Koontz) of Maquoketa, IA; 4 grandchildren, Prescott, Brennin, Adan and Isabell; brothers, Ron (Pearl) Streets of Fulton, IL, and Robert (Lori) Streets of Greene, IA; and a very special friend, Steve Rowan.  She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Caroline, sister Rhonda, and a grandchild Caroline Streets.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Rebecca M. “Becky” Shady memorial fund has been established.

Robert A. Biermann

Robert A. Biermann, 85 of Farley, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

Visitation for Bob will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the Reiff funeral Home in Farley, Iowa where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m.  Anyone unable to attend may send cards to the Reiff Funeral Home, Attn: Robert Biermann family, P.O. Box 99, Farley, Iowa, 52046.

Services for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa, with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding and Rev. Carl Ries concelebrating.  The services will be live streamed on the St. Elizabeth Pastorate Facebook page.  Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.

He was born March 30, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Raymond and Dorothy (Ries) Biermann.  He went to school in Farley and Epworth graduating from the 8th grade.  On August 3, 1957 he was united in marriage to LaVonne Jaeger at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa.  As a young man, he worked for various farmers, worked construction and finally worked at John Deere Dubuque Works.  He retired from John Deere in 1989 as an electrician.  He also ran his own business, Biermann Electric until he was 65.

Robert loved to tinker with tools that contractors and friends would bring him to fix.  He could fix just about anything!  He was always ready to help anyone that needed an extra hand.  He loved spending time with his family.  The time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him the most joy.

Robert was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Farley, Farley Knights of Columbus Council #2001 and the Dubuque County 4th Degree Dubourg Assembly #1573.  He was a member of the United Automobile Workers Local 94.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne Biermann of Farley, IA; one son, Jeff (Jean) Biermann of Cascade, IA; four granddaughters, Amy (Adam) Hoffman, Trisha (Mitch) Knipper, Melissa (Corey) Schulz, and Ashley (John) Garde; four great grandchildren, siblings, Don (Janet) Biermann of Dubuque, LeRoy (Shirley) Biermann of Peosta, Ken (Donna) Biermann of Farley, Paul (Kathy) Biermann of Epworth, Marilyn (Dave) Hawkins of Cascade, and Mark Biermann of Dubuque; one sister-in-law, Doris Biermann of Epworth.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Geri Kay (Ralph) Clemen; son, Daniel Biermann; brother, Dave Biermann; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald (Nadine & Kay) Jaeger, Louie (Rita) Jaeger, Mary Lou (Francis) Schilling, Betty (Walter) Steger, Ann (Mark) Winter, and Janice Staner.
