Kenneth R. Snodgrass
Kenneth R. Snodgrass, King of the Water Fight, pun-master, prankster, actor and singer took his final curtain call on February 10, 2022. A private service was held at Resurrection Church.
Ken was born on May 30, 1940, to Roland and Lula (O’Dell) Snodgrass and his older brothers, Dale and Clare. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1958 and truly enjoyed emceeing and catching up with classmates at reunions. Ken managed a great group at Crescent Electric for 44 years where he did everything “soon” and made many friendships.
He married his costar, Carole (Pins) on October 10, 1964. Together they had two amazing, brilliant, kind-hearted daughters and two other ones. In order of appearance: Cheryl, Denise, Kathy, and Deanne.
Dad had a definite flair for entertaining. We thought he was famous when he was as an extra in F.I.S.T. Dad also performed in stage productions at Grand Opera House, Main Street Players, Bell Tower Theater, and murder mystery dinners. He was thrilled that he passed on that passion to his daughter, Cheryl, and granddaughter, Alyssa. He made sure his daughters were proficient in the box step. He loved Resurrection Church and devoted his time lectoring and singing in the choir.
Ken was very community oriented. You might have met him through Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow), Toastmasters (President), Junior Achievement (Board member), Republican Central Committee (Chairman), the Hospice Foundation Board or his mentorship of entrepreneurs through S.C.O.R.E. He issued many grammar citations. So, we now can (not ‘may’) go out to eat (anywhere but Carole’s Kitchen!) and when asked, we did good (not ‘well’).
“Mr. Snodgrass” was the fun dad to all our friends. He was easy to provoke with his temper that ran zero to 100 at the speed of a snowball hitting his station wagon.
April Fool’s Day will always be our holiday. We will honor you with pranks that will simultaneously make you ashamed and proud of us.
Those of us left to remember your humorous sayings and warm heart: wife, Carole; daughter, Cheryl (and Mika) Snodgrass; daughter, Denise and Dan (Felly) Leibfried and their children Jake (Sydney Azim) Leibfried, Alyssa (Tanner) Norby, and Brody Leibfried; daughter, Kathy and Joe Bitter and their children Sophie and Daniel; daughter, Deanne and Eric Bowman and their children Sydney and Ryland. Ken’s brother Clare (Joan) Snodgrass; beloved widow of Dale, Mickie (Dan) Leibfried; Carole’s dear friend and sister-in-law, Jan Pins; and nieces and nephews.
As lonely as it makes us, as much as no holiday or get-together will ever be the same without you: Ma has some warm oatmeal cookies ready, Pop and Dale are waiting to hunt and fish, Art and Marge Pins have a Rusty Nail cocktail for you, and Tom Pins is holding your slot machine.
We know you are running around and playing kick-the-can on Alpine Street, dancing without your daughters making fun of you, and finding out what happened to Old Walt. And Dad, would you strum your guitar and sing your girls to sleep once in a while? ♪ …”then sings my soul”…♫
Please honor Ken by reaching out of your comfort zone to mentor someone, share a smile or joke, attend a live theater production, or initiate a water fight. We appreciate all the memories, stories and kind words you have to share with us on Ken’s page at www.egelhofsiegertcasper.com.
Charles W. Dupree
Charles W. Dupree, 52, of Galena IL passed away on January 21st after a valiant battle with cholangiocarcinoma cancer. He passed in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was born on August 22, 1969, to Betty and Marvin Dupree in Chicago, IL. He attended both Jahn Elementary School and Carl Schurz High School before moving on to marry the love of his life, Jennifer Dupree, in Chicago, June 30, 1995. Charlie and Jennifer had three children, Joshua, Dylan, and Kayla and they were the center of his life. He moved with Jennifer and the kids to Galena in 2003 where they made their home. There was not much Charlie could not do and he held several jobs over the years; including working for the Illinois Tollway where he drove a snowplow and maintained the tollway. It was after moving to Galena that Charlie began his 10-year career with the Canadian National Railroad where he made many friends that helped make up for the time he had to spend away from his family. But the best thing about working for the CN was that since he was on the rail gang, he often ended up working in the Tennessee area near where his mom and several of his siblings lived. Charlie dearly loved his Tennessee family and enjoyed getting to have this time with them. He was able to do lots of fishing with his mom, his fishing partner, hanging out with his siblings, and just being with the nieces and nephews. This was the only time he could be content while having to be away from home. Sitting still or being idle was not for Charlie! He was a man on the move and always kept busy, if possible, with numerous interests and hobbies. If he was not fishing, he was getting ready to go fishing; or possibly cooking, gardening, or working in his yard. Another love for Charlie was the Cubs. There was no bigger Cubs fan and no one anywhere who was more excited when they won the World Series. Finally!! Charlie loved music of ALL kinds and he really loved to sing, even songs from kids’ movies. All his friends and family can tell you about his singing. Charlie never met a stranger, and he had the biggest heart in the world. There was never a more positive person and he always put his family first. He would tell you that they were his everything. He always had a sense of humor and to know him was to love him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Dupree, his children, Joshua, Dylan, and Kayla all of Galena, and his daughter, Kristen, and granddaughter, Joslyn of Carol Stream, IL. He also leaves behind his dear Mom, Betty Dupree, and siblings, Patricia, Elizabeth, Thomas, Bobby Ray, and James and many nieces, nephews, and a big host of extended family and friends.
Charlie is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Dupree, stepfather, Ray Mathis, brother, Clarence “Punk” Dupree, and nephew Peter “Monk” Halan.

There was always a pet cat (or two) in her house amongst various other critters, including a baby robin “Reddy’ who she nursed back to life after it fell out of a tree. She, along with Bing, followed their children and grandchildren to their many school, sporting and extracurricular activities over the years.
Those left to cherish Veron’s memory include her son, Glenn (Sandy) Miller of Tampa, Florida; daughters Lisa (W. Paul) Woodward and Janelle (Chad) Cox of Dubuque. Her grandchildren, Tara Miller Schisler (Ryan Schisler), Grant (Carrington) Miller, Alex Miller; Will Woodward, Caroline Woodward; Stephanie Cox, Blake Cox. Her great-grandchildren Jaylen Miller, “Baby Girl” Miller on the way, and Ava Schisler. Also, many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Veron was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold O. “Bing” Miller, her sister Arline (Ray) Leuschner, sisters-in-law Irene (Fergie) Hannan and Kathryn (Bernie) Finn, as well as special nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers a Veron J. Miller memorial fund has been established.
