Alvera J. Mormann
Alvera Juliana (Neuhaus) Mormann, age 88, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, IA, with family after a long struggle from breast cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, IA with interment in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Petersburg, Iowa.
Vera was born on December 23, 1931, in New Vienna, IA, the daughter of Bernard and Theresa (Wiskus) Neuhaus. She married William H. Mormann on April 25, 1954, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna. Together, they had eleven children: Alan (Pam) of Petersburg, IA, Terry (JoAnn) of Independence, IA, Randy (Carmen) of Petersburg, IA, Robert (Kim) of Omaha, NE, Deb (Garry) Anstoetter of Epworth, IA, William III (Mary) of Farley, IA, Bev (John) Nelson of Navarre, FL, Mary (Gerry) Schlegel of Fort Worth, TX, James (Melinda) of Morton, IL, Carl (Lisa) of Dyersville, IA and Lynn (Kevin) Franzluebbers of Omaha, NE.
She was the proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren and the beaming great grandmother of 26 great-grandchildren.
Vera leaves behind one sister, Germaine (Neuhaus) Foxen and Cousin Mary Lou Schmit; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William H. Mormann, her son Alan Mormann, her grandson Patrick Mormann, brothers Alvin (Clara Ann) Neuhaus, Bernard (Delores) Neuhaus and in-laws Richard “Dick” and Mary Arens, Harlan and Julitta Friedman and William Schmitt.
Vera had a quick wit and contagious smile with hugs that engulfed you in her love. She made everyone feel like a friend and was thought of by many as a second mom or special grandma. She was genuine and always made time to chat and share a smile – there was never a story that wasn’t too good to be told again and again. She had a way of opening her home to others, even if it was unexpected, one was always welcomed.
You would know that Vera had a green thumb as her beautiful flowers and plants were showcased inside and out. Throughout her years, Vera donated her blooms to the area greenhouse for homecoming corsages and to the St. Peter & Paul church to adorn the altar of her faith. Keeping to her nature, you’d see her riding her Dixon mower through town to make sure her lawns were manicured to their finest.
Her second home was on the baseball field, supporting her husband as team manager and her boys as they took the field for the Petersburg Baseball team. Vera ran the concessions making roasters of turkey and Maid Rite sandwiches and making sure no one ever left hungry.
Vera had a strong faith and prayed the rosary every day; she always gave great advice that usually ended with the comment to “Pray about it and look for guidance from upstairs and I’ll pray an extra rosary for you”. Vera cherished her family, and they were truly her greatest treasure. Her advice was endless and valued.
Over the years, Vera participated in church groups, prayer groups, school activities and bowling leagues. The continued support of her family was seen by her presence at their events whenever she could. She volunteered to the community lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
Vera will be missed by many; her family has lost a treasure – their rock and matriarch. Her kind, gentle spirit will be a light that continues to shine through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the care and compassion of those that brought a loving touch to their mother; the Stonehill Care facility nurses, care and liturgical staff, and administrator Peggy Stockel. Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Mark Herman, Dr. Tony Heiar, Dr. Garrett Ridgley, Dr Amy Even and Dr. Tauseef Khan.

Michael McInnis
Michael McInnis; known to those who had the pleasure of knowing him as ‘Hillbilly’, continued his journey to the next life and passed away on Sunday, November 15th around 2 p.m.
A heartfelt “Thank You” goes out to his companions who visited him over the past two years as he worked to recover from an unfortunate accident which left him paralyzed with little use of his arms and legs. He was a fighter and, even towards the end, he gave it his all, slowly regaining the ability to stand freely for a short amount of time and even taking a few steps.
Alas, his time had come and at the age of 63, he passed in his East Dubuque home doing what he loved so much – working on his Vette.
Mike leaves behind a wife of 41 years, a daughter, and a son-in-law who will continue on with ‘the plan’.
He lived his life like no other, spoke from his heart, and always tried to do the right thing, never asking for anything in return. The world became an uglier place when he left us. He was a “Simple Man”

Robert A. Lange
Robert (“Bob”) A. Lange passed away at his home in Dubuque, Iowa on November 19, 2020, at the age of 67. His heart, brimming with love, decided it was time to rest.
Bob was born on September 3, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Robert Sr. and Mary Louise “Midge” Lange. After tragically losing his father at a young age, Bob assumed the role of “man of the house”-the lone boy among his warrior mother and four loving sisters, Laurie, Libby, Ann and Mary Sue, whose influence set him up for success as a father to girls.
Bob moved with his mother and sisters to Dubuque, Iowa in 1962. Bob graduated from Wahlert High School in 1971, and then attended Loras College, where he participated in Jujutsu.
On June 1, 1979, Bob married his sweetheart, Lily Kennedy, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque. Their first daughter, Lindsey, was born the following year, and they welcomed Chelsey into the world a few years later. Bob, as manly a man as there ever was, was immediately smitten by his daughters and quickly found himself a “girl dad,” carting Lindsey and Chelsey to ballet, swimming, soccer, music and, of course, the ski slopes. He loved his girls, who never, ever had to question their daddy’s affection because it was always abundant and clear.
As a young father and husband, Bob worked among friends at John Deere, but found himself on the rough side of the 1980s recession. Bob, however, was never one to be discouraged. He quickly began studying to be a firefighter and paramedic, in pursuit of a childhood dream. Always one to lend a hand to friend or stranger, it was a perfect fit. He became a firefighter with the Dubuque Fire Department in 1993. There, he found more than a career-he found a brotherhood.
Bob loved his years as a fireman…but maybe not quite as much as retirement. After 23 years, Bob retired from the force in 2016, and was often heard exclaiming, “Retirement doesn’t suck!” He embraced his new life by doing what he did best-he lived.
Bob Lange loved life. He was an avid skier, hunter, and fisherman-in fact, he tempted death more than a few times due to these particular hobbies. He was a craftsman, and enjoyed tinkering in his workshop. He loved camping with Lily in their campers, which seemed to increase in size annually. He loved the Green Bay Packers, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs through thick and thin. Not particularly choosy, he’d crack open a craft mircrobrew and a Busch Light with the same fervor, always up for sharing a cold one with his sons-in-law or a buddy, most especially his dear friend, Chris Miller.
Upon the birth of Lindsey’s boys, Cole Alexander (9) and William Robert (6), he became “Bobpa.” Bob whole-heartedly embraced the role of grandfather, and those little boys grew enamored with their Bobpa, who was bigger than life in their eyes. They had a special bond and their Bobpa’s spirit lives on in them.
Those who knew Bob loved Bob. He was kind, compassionate, sensitive, funny, and fun. He valued justice, honor, and integrity. He had a radiant smile, and his laughter filled a room. He dearly loved his family and friends, as we dearly love him.
Bob, Dad: Thank you for showing us how to live and love. We miss you. We love you. We always, always will.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lily Lange (née Kennedy) of Asbury; two daughters, Lindsey (Chris) Diedrich of Denver, CO and Chelsey (Sean) Lange Hunter of Avon, CO; two grandsons, Cole and William Diedrich of Denver, CO and baby Hunter due in June 2021; four sisters, Laurie (David) Hinshaw of Woodstock, GA, Libby (Leonard) Decker of Dubuque, Ann Mottaz of Des Moines and Mary Sue (Dave) Crabtree of Des Moines; his mother-in-law, May Lou Kennedy of Epworth; in-laws, Jean (Steve) Ernst of Dubuque, Mary Lou Graham of Kingston, Ontario, Daniel Kennedy of Dubuque, Linda (Kevin) Goerdt of Epworth, Lori (Phil) Kramer of Epworth, Robert (Rianne) Kennedy of Dubuque and Thomas Kennedy of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Rae Ann Kennedy and Val Kennedy both of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Midge Lange; father-in-law, Jack Kennedy; sister-in-law, Nancy Kennedy; and four brothers-in-law, Jack, Mike and Jim Kennedy, and Bill Graham.

Harold O’Neil Moravec
Harold O’Neil Moravec, 89, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, passed Thursday, November 19, 2020, at home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Holy Ghost Church, Dickeyville, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. There will be no public visitation.
Dad was born in Mason City, Iowa on November 25, 1930. While we do not know a lot about his early years, we know he liked to fish, hunt and play sports. Dad worked for the telephone company, which took him to Dubuque, where he met Mom, Corinne Casey, at the Merchant’s Café in 1949. Our parents were engaged before Dad left to serve in the Army in Korea from 1950-52.
After Dad’s military service, our parents married in 1954 and stayed in Dubuque for a few years before moving to Dickeyville. Along the way, five kids were born, Marna, Monica, Jimmy, Mary and Michael. There were years of camping, canoeing, hiking and trips in southwest and northern Wisconsin. Dad loved the beauty of Wisconsin and explored its many counties and backroads.
Dad worked at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works from 1959-1987, having worked in many departments over the years. He was proud of his work there. After retirement, Mom and Dad continued their travels and spent time with their grandchildren, taught us all how to play cribbage, several card games, make fudge and brandy old fashioneds.
Dad drove the school bus from Dickeyville to Wahlert for a few years. If the snow caused a delay in the arrival time, Dad would occasionally stop at Sweetheart Bakery to let the students get a donut before school. “You may as well take advantage of this delay.”
Dad was active in his community and was a member of the Dickeyville Fire Department and Rescue Squad for 15 years. Dad was proud of his military service and was active in the local VFW for decades.
Our father was a sweet, kind, gentle, considerate person who put the needs of others before himself. He showered us with love every day. “Have fun” was his advice to us.
He is survived by Marna (Ed) Bulman Hoy, Monica (Ken), Jimmy, Mary (Kurt) Statz, and Michael (Connie); 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dickeyville Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
The family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care they provided.
