Patrick E. Fishnick, Sr

Patrick E. “Chubbs” Fishnick, Sr., age 71 of Dubuque, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on June 5, 2020, at home, surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Pat’s life, a Celebration of Life for Pat will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., at the American Legion Hall, 1306 Delhi Street in Dubuque.  Burial will be in the Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque American Legion, Post #6.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Pat’s family.

Pat was born on April 30, 1949, in Dubuque, Iowa, one of 6 children to Bernard L. and Edna L. (Davis) Fishnick.  He was a proud graduate of Dubuque Senior High School and was united in marriage to his soul-mate, Carolee A. Blakeman, on August 30, 1969, just before leaving to honorably serve his country with the U.S. Army, 2nd Battalion, 1st Artillery Division in Vietnam.  Upon returning home, Pat spent 10 years with the John Deere Dubuque Works before eventually investing over 28 years of his working career with Eagle Window and Door.  He happily retired in 2011 and was able to now spend much more free-time within his favorite endeavors in life.  A few hours at the bowling alley, especially Fisher Lanes where his first 700 series pin still resides on the wall, was always a welcomed adventure in the day.  Pat also enjoyed sitting around the card table with family and friends, laying all of the correct cards in the correct order until the victory was his.  He was also known to occasionally try his luck at the casino with his bride by his side.  But, truth be told, any opportunity to have his friends and family around him was always on his short list of ways to make his day a successful one.  Pat was personally driven to continually be himself in all areas of life, and his integrity was as solid as a rock.  We will miss him more than he could have ever known, but we do find peace in the fact that we were able to share the many enjoyable years with him as he walked among us.  Thank you, Pat, for your open and honest character and may peace from your earthly struggles be yours until we meet again.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Pat include,

Marcella M. (Dendinger) Wilming

Marcella M. “Marcy” (Dendinger) Wilming, age 98, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 7:10 a.m., on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Hawkeye Care Center. To celebrate Marcella’s life, private family services will be held at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Marcy was born on December 8, 1921, in Dubuque, Iowa, the only child of Clarence and Rosina (Grill) Dendinger.

Marcy attended St. Mary’s Grade School and St. Joseph High School before going to work with the Dubuque Casket Company. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Arthur Wilming, on November 16, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque. They were blessed with 56 wonderful years together and 4 children, before he was sadly called home ahead of her on December 5, 2002. After they married, Marcy fully embraced her role as a full time wife, mother and homemaker. Her faith was an integral part of her life as evidenced by her life long membership with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society. In her free time, Marcy and Art enjoyed getting together with friends, playing cards or going dancing at Melody Mill. They moved to the Woodlands and made many new friends, and after Art’s passing Marcy could be found playing cards or bingo every day. It was hard to find her in her apartment, she truly was the definition of a “social butterfly”. We are eternally grateful for the 98 years we have had here with Marcy, she has experienced more changes in her lifetime than most can imagine. We love you and look forward to the day when we are all happily reunited in our Heavenly home forever.

Those left to cherish Marcy’s memory include

her children,
Lee (Sheila) Wilming, Aurora, IL,
Jean Hogan, Asbury, IA
and Gary (Lisa) Wilming, Dubuque, IA;

her 6 grandchildren;

and her 8 great-grandchildren, with another one due any day.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Wilming; and a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Roger Boetel.

Marcy’s family would like to thank the outstanding nurses and staff of Hawkeye Care Center, especially Dani, as well as Hospice of Dubuque, especially Megan, Shirley, Kelli and Amy B., and her Hospice social worker, Jennie. You have all been wonderful and your support and care are deeply appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted by the family to be distributed between Hawkeye Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque, and may be mailed to Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, Iowa 52001, Attn. Marcella Wilming Family.

Richard E. Henricks

Yes, it is a surprise.  Richard Eugene Henricks, age 77 of Dubuque, Iowa, died of natural causes on June 3, 2020, instead of the result of a mishap in one of his many adventures.  Rich, also known as Gene, was born on October 5, 1942 in Rockford, Illinois.

His parents, Francis B. Henricks, and Virginia (Campobello) Henricks were stunned when he didn’t emerge with a cry at the hospital, but a grin and the declaration, “Let the adventure begin!”  And it sure did.  After many audacious and intrepid youthful adventures, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  He served with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine, 1st Marine Division in a variety of MOS capacities.  His favorite station: Puerto Rico! His least favorite station: Viet Nam, where he was a forward observer.

Rich was a charter member of VietNow, which he helped establish in Rockford, Illinois.

Upon returning home he married Joan Florence Aamodt, and soon Rhonda, Penny, and Meaghan arrived to complete the family. When his marriage to Joan ended, Rich married Susan Garas on February 18, 1988 in Maui, Hawaii, and they had two daughters, Genevieve and Natalie.

Rich worked for Goss Printing in materials management for more than 35 years until the plant closed, and then he got his dream job– working at the Rock Island Arsenal.  Although he continued holding true to his adventuresome nature, the Arsenal took this to a new level, and he was deployed to Iraq three times in 2004, 2006, and 2009.  While there in 2009, he called Susan and said, “I’m possibly the only guy out here driving a HMMWV (Humvee) in the desert while collecting a Social Security check!”

Rich retired in 2014 and spent every day working with his dog Bowser to restore his cabin, located along the backwaters of the Mississippi. The small acreage and peaceful waters renewed his spirit on a daily basis.  He was a hunter, fisherman, bicyclist (this year would have been 30 for RAGBRAI), sailor, hiker, runner, and Harley rider who believed it was taboo to be seen without his dog. But most of all, he was a storyteller.

Those of us who remain to exchange his stories are his wife Susan Henricks, Dubuque, IA; his daughters, Rhonda (Nick) Kovanda, Rockford, IL; Penny Smith, Rockford, IL; Meaghan Henricks, Rockton, IL; Genevieve Keyser (Jesse), Ballwin, MO; Natalie Henricks, Rockford, IL; siblings, John Henricks (Kathy) and their daughter Kristine and son John, Boyne City, MI; Robert (Gisela) and his daughters Rene and Steffania, Caldwell, TX; Ginger (Ross) Wehling, Caldwell, TX; and his grandchildren, Lola, Stella, Hannah, Louis, Eliljah, Theodore, Desmond, Otto, Katja and Gunnar.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Virginia Henricks; his first grandson, Jayden; his former wife, Joan, and his niece Kelly Hardie.

To celebrate Rich’s life, family and friends may visit from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture service held at 2:30 p.m. To honor Rich’s life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, June 8, 2020, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Church, 1701 Rhomberg Avenue, with Rev. Mark Kwenin officiating.  In keeping with current guidelines, masks will be required at church and 6 foot social distancing practices should be followed.  Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery, in Rockford, Illinois, at a later date following cremation.

Memorials can be mailed to Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, IA 52001, Attn. Richard Henricks Family, and they will be distributed between the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque as well as the American Legion Post 170 in Blairstown, IA.

Deb was born on September 22, 1954, to Arlo and Mary (Thompson) Landt in Marshalltown, Iowa.  She grew up attending school in the Marshalltown School System, and in the early years of her working career she was employed with the Elmwood Country Club and Cooper Manufacturing.  She was united in marriage to Don Gruver in 1971, in Marshalltown, Iowa, and they were blessed with 2 children together.  Deb loved spending time with family and friends, and when the kids were young some of her favorite activities included taking them to baseball games, amusement parks and camping.  In 1999, Deb met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Newcomer, and the two moved to Dubuque, Iowa to start their new life together.   They formed Newcomer Trucking, and to this day greatly enjoyed spending time working together.  Their hard work and saving throughout the years would pay off greatly, allowing them to purchase their dream home on Chaney Road, where they developed close neighborhood friendships that would last a lifetime.  Deb and Bob were inseparable and could often be found  enjoying a camping trip to Waupeton with friends, or hitting the open road for a Harley ride along the Mississippi River.  Deb was a fierce friend, loyal and caring, but was not afraid to mince words when necessary.  She found great joy in making sure everyone was well cared for and took great pride in providing an excellent home for Bob, her family members and her many visitors.
