Thomas P. Berning

Thomas P. Berning, age 41, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on October 29, 2020, at home, due to heart failure.  To honor Tom’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Tom’s family.

Tom was born on December 17, 1978, in Dubuque, Iowa, a son to Thomas J. and Dianne L. (Mohr) Berning.  He grew up embracing his free-spirit and was very proud of becoming an Eagle Scout as he ventured into adulthood.  Tom spent his working hours in food service primarily and was always the big guy behind the counter, or at the window. With an even bigger smile, he found opportunities to share his love for life with those around him.  He also knew how to relax though, and when the workday was done, you could easily find him vigorously cheering on his Bear’s and Cubbies whenever they were playing.  His gentle and friendly demeanor was always on display and Tom made friends very easily wherever he went.  His affinity for real big and sincere hugs, both given and received, will thankfully now be able to provide some healing in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him as they can embrace the memories of their last one’s moving forward.  Tom’s sudden absence from our lives is quite a bit more than we can honestly handle, but we trust that his daughters, Kaitlyn and Crystal, will carry on his love of life.  Thank you, Tom, for showing us that life isn’t always as we would wish, but adding a little fun into the mix from time to time can surely ease the ride.  We will treasure every wonderful memory you leave behind, and may you find the peace you so deserve as you keep them all smiling up there until we meet again.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Thomas include,

his loving parents,
Tom and Dianne Berning, East Dubuque, Illinois.

his 2 daughters,

Dick was born on October 7, 1945, in Springbrook, Iowa, son of Urban and Algean (Feltes) Jacobs.

Dick graduated from Marquette High School, Class of 1963.  After high school, Dick went on to honorably serve his country with the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.  He was united in marriage to Judith Kohl Jaeger on November 15, 1969.  They melded their families together, and have been blessed with almost 51 wonderful years together.  Dick was employed as a building specialist with U.S. West Phone Company for 32 years, until his well earned retirement.  His faith was very important to him and he was a long time member of the Church of the Resurrection, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 30 years.  When he found some free time in his days, Dick liked to spend time with the family at the cottage in Waupeton, and was always up for going fishing.  He also enjoyed spending time at the bowling lanes working on a perfect 300 game.  We are deeply saddened at losing our wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.  We will miss you more than words can express and are grateful for all the memories we have to cherish forever.

Stevin E. Hudrlik

Stevin E. “Hooder” Hudrlik, 65, of Andrew, Iowa, passed away suddenly on October 28, 2020, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A public graveside service and burial celebrating Stevin’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at St. John’s Cemetery, Andrew, Iowa.  A public visitation will take place from 4 to 7 P.M. on Monday, November 2, 2020, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.

Masks are required and it is recommended to practice social distancing guidelines due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Stevin Edward Hudrlik was born on January 28, 1955 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Edward Alan and Rae Ona (Batey) Hudrlik.  He was a 1973 graduate of Andrew High School.  He married Mary Lou Deppe on June 16, 1979 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Andrew, Iowa.  Three children were born to this union, Stevie, Denver and Audra.

Steve grew up in a musical family, playing bass guitar with his father and brothers in Big Ed and the Road Runners.  He played in several other bands following this, including Russ and the Hooders which was a local favorite.

Steve had worked as an over-the-road semi truck driver and mechanic the majority of his life.  He made friends wherever he traveled and always had a good joke to tell.  He would always lend a helping hand no matter if you were a neighbor, friend or stranger.  If you heard a train horn coming down Highway 61 or through Maquoketa or Andrew, you knew that Hooder was home.  As an owner-operator truck driver for Long Haul Trucking since 1995, he loved driving Peterbilt’s and was proud to fly the American flag and sing the National Anthem.  He tried a go at Stock Car racing, but with only one feature win at the Jackson County Speedway, he knew NASCAR would not be his calling!  More recently, he joined the Coronado Car Club and liked showing off his 1979 Lincoln.  Steve also enjoyed playing Scrabble, coffee with the boys, and spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Lou Hudrlik of Andrew, IA; children, Stevie (Jeremy) Veach of Bellevue, IA, Denver (Brook) Hudrlik of Maquoketa, IA, and Audra (Brett) Kilburg of Pagosa Springs, CO; 4 grandchildren, Landon, Rowan, Chase and Owen; sisters, Rue Lain (Ron) Storlie of Davenport, IA and Deona (Tom) Casel of Andrew, IA; and brothers, Kevin Hudrlik of Maquoketa, IA, and Marty (Mary) Hudrlik of Maquoketa, IA.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made in Stevin’s honor to the Andrew First Responders.

Online condolences may be left at www.CarsonAndSon.com.
