Victoria Foht

Victoria “Vicki” Foht, 65, formerly of East Dubuque, IL., passed away Friday November 8, 2019 at Manor Care Nursing Center in Dubuque, IA.  Vicki was born January 27, 1954 in Dubuque, IA, to Hank and Rose (Hasken) Fellenzer of East Dubuque.

In spite of contracting Multiple Sclerosis in her early teens, Vicki successfully gave birth to two sons, Anthony and Kyle. Vicki spent her entire life battling the ravages of Multiple Sclerosis.  For her the thrill of school dances was only slightly complicated by the need of crutches.  But soon a walker was needed, then various wheel chairs, eventually succumbing to a mostly bedridden life style in her later years.  Through it all several things remained constant:  her devoted son Tony, her dedicated sister Pat, and a razor sharp sarcastic sense of humor.  She may not have been mobile but she was definitely cognizant of and enjoyed the world around her.

Vicki is preceded in death by both her parents (Hank & Rose), her young son Kyle, and brother Kevin Fellenzer.

Vicki is survived by her son Anthony (& Stacy) Foht, grandchildren Madison & Samantha Foht, and two sisters Pat (& Bob Vanderah) and Susan (& Richard Stark), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carol A. Lau

Carol A. Lau, age 89 of Dubuque, Iowa completed her earthly journey on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dubuque, surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Carol’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery, 2736 Windsor Avenue, Dubuque, Iowa.  Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Carol’s family.

Carol was born on February 18, 1930 in Waterloo, Iowa, a daughter to Fred and Edith (Lubberts) Johnson.  Carol was raised with a strong commitment to giving of herself, time and energy first and foremost.  She faithfully devoted over 45 years of her working career as a Registered Nurse to help complete that task.  Carol had the opportunity to work in various locations and facilities, but the years she spent at Finley and Mercy Hospitals were among her most rewarding.  But, even outside of work, Carol was driven to share her generous spirit with all whom she loved and cared for.  Whether she was creating magic at her fingertips on her sewing machine, at her crafts table, or in her kitchen, you could be sure Carol was working on something special which she could bless those around her with.

Carol was a kind and fun-loving woman who embraced each day with an optimistic smile which couldn’t help but brighten any room she walked into.  Her love for sweets was the only thing which came in second to her love for others.  Carol never met a child she didn’t like, but when it came to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, you could continually see that unconditional love in action.  Nothing brought her greater joy than to hear their voices and catch up on the daily events in their lives.  Carol spent her 89 years among us making the world a better place on her terms and countless lives have been impacted for the better because of that fact.  We will miss her gentle spirit moving forward, but we know that she is now at peace from her earthly struggles and we find peace in trusting that she has begun her eternal journey and only has to wait patiently for us to join her again in time.  Thank you, Carol, for all of your love and lessons you’ve left behind, and may we discover peace in the comfort of carrying your legacy forward.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Carol include,

her 3 children,
Marianne (Tom) Lytle, Dubuque, Iowa,
Dave (Susan) Lau, Dubuque, Iowa,
and Karen Lau, Dubuque, Iowa;

her 4 granddaughters,
Lindsay (Jesse) Drew, Ankeny, Iowa,
Abbey (Brad) VanWeelden, Des Moines, Iowa,
Stephanie (Adam) Aleshire, Des Moines, Iowa,
and Ashley (Matt Lester) Lau, Dubuque, Iowa;

her 6 great-grandchildren,
Eva Drew, Presley Drew, Waylon VanWeelden, Landry VanWeelden, Willow Lester and Odin Lester;

her sister,
Kathy LeBrun, Kent, Washington;

her brother,
Paul (Anne) Johnson, Des Moines, Iowa;

along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Jay LeBrun.

Carol’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor, and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of their professional and compassionate care of Carol, and her family.

Charles A. Reinert

Charles A. Reinert, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Stonehill Care Center.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 15th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.

Charles was born on June 23, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Joseph and Ida (Loewen) Reinert. Charles was raised on the family farm in Sherrill and attended St. Peter and Paul School. As a young man he worked for several farmers as a hired hand. He then worked for the former Dubuque Packing Company, and then later FDL Foods, Inc. He retired after 42 years and then worked part-time at the former Econo Foods and was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. He later recycled pop cans “for a little something to do.”

He enjoyed being around people and always had a story or joke to tell. He loved putting a smile on your face, and just generally giving you a hard time.

He married Dolores (Bleile) Reinert on June 14, 1958 at St Francis of Assisi Parish in Balltown, Iowa. They became proud parents to Margaret (Dolly), in 1964. Charles enjoyed the simple things in life: playing cards, taking walks, cutting grass, car rides, and always a good dish of ice cream.

Charles was devoted to his family and always enjoyed spending time with them. His grandchildren were his special pride and joy; he always said, “If I knew grandchildren were so fun, I would’ve had them first.”

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife Dolores; daughter Margaret (Nick) McGrath, of Dubuque; grandson Nicholas of Dallas, TX and granddaughter Jessica of Dubuque. His siblings Bernard (Lori) Reinert, of St-Louis, MO; Frank (Beverly) Reinert, of Dubuque, IA; Peter (Betty) Reinert, of Hazel Green, WI; Catherine Orman, of San Rafael, CA, Raphael Reinert of Dubuque, IA; and Molly (Mike) Murray, of Olney, IL.; his siblings-in-law Leon (Marie) Bleile, Cletus (Sally) Bleile, Margaret Heiderscheit and Betty Barth, all of Dubuque, IA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and parent-in-laws (Victor and Margaret Bleile); siblings John (Margie) Reinert; Mary (Paul) Noesen, Sr Clare Reinert, Tony (Pauley) Reinert, Herman Reinert, Lucy (Ken) Donovan, Joe (Karel) Reinert; sister-in-law Glenda Reinert and brother-in-law Stan Orman. His sibling-in-laws Delbert Bleile, Raphael (Anna Mae) Bleile, and Ken Heiderscheit.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Stonehill who provided loving care to Charles and his family. They would also like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their care and comfort provided to Charles this last month. A special thank-you goes out to Dr. John Whalen who provided excellent care and comfort to Charles for the last several years of his life.
