Elizabeth J. Garvey

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Garvey, 90, of Dubuque, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center.

Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, where visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of Mass. Msgr. Thomas Toale will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Betty was born February 22, 1929 in Dubuque, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Ries) Majerus. She married Earl Garvey on May 5, 1951.

Betty was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Betty is survived by her sister in law, Rose Majerus; her nieces and nephews, Ken Majerus of Dubuque, Tina (Virgil) Kohagen of Waterloo, Pam (Kevin) Hall of Cedar Falls, and Tim (Laura) Majerus of East Dubuque, IL; and several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Majerus and James Majerus; and two sisters, Katie Meyer and Virginia Lindquist.

Ruth I. Vierkant

Ruth I. Vierkant, 90, of Dubuque died Monday, May 6, 2019.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Summit Congregational United Church of Christ followed by the funeral service Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Ruth was born July 16, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Elmer and Minnie (Mallder) McIntyre. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School.

On September 4, 1948 she married Erwin Vierkant at the “Little Brown Church” in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2013.

Ruth worked for the Dubuque Battery Factory, Montgomery Wards, Weber Paper Company, Janlen Plastics and was an elevator operator at the Hotel Julien.

She is survived by four children, Glen (Molly) Vierkant of Green Bay, WI, Erich (Sheila) Vierkant of Dubuque, Karen (Ron) Mills of Dubuque, and Kurt Vierkant of Dyersville; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a sister, Delores Mielnicki.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Everett McIntyre.

The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel T. Lange

Daniel T. Lange, 62, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family after his courageous battle for 14 years with various health issues. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Hazel Green with Rev. Kenneth Frisch officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Friday at the church before the service.

Dan was born on September 21, 1956, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Merlin F. and Evelyn J. (Schonhoff) Lange. He married Robin McCarthy on January 22, 2005, at Sinsinawa Mound, Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. Dan worked for five years at John Deere Tractor Works and for 35 years at Flexsteel Industries.

Dan attended St. Joseph’s School in Sinsinawa, Hazel Green High School and Southwestern Vocational Technical School in Fennimore for welding. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, biking, fishing, deer hunting up north and raising Christmas trees. He also enjoyed playing cards especially euchre and pinochle. Dan participated in the Men’s CEW at the Sinsinawa Mound, the Knights of Columbus, built houses for the less fortunate in Jamaica with Food for the Poor, and was known as the “TEC Trailer Man” because of his many years of service with the Together Encountering Christ Program. Dan lived his life by the mantra that “God is good. God has a plan. God is in Control.” Most of all, he loved his wife and children, Jeff, Cindy and David.

Survivors include his wife, Robin; his children, Jeff (fiancée, Sarah), Pardeeville, Cindy (Charald) Lange, Leiden, Netherlands, and David, at home; his parents, Merlin and Evelyn Lange, Hazel Green, a sister, Deb Schneider, Menominee, IL; and two brothers, Dick (Sheila) Lange, Kieler, Tim (Samantha) Lange, Cobb; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dave and Peg McCarthy, Highland; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Mary Lange and Paul and Mary Schonhoff, and his brother-in-law, Pete Schneider.

Rosella E. (Ruden) Jasper

Rosella E. (Ruden) Jasper, age 94, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 4:25 a.m., on Monday, May 6, 2019, at home, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Rosella’s life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Church, 1701 Rhomberg Avenue, with Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. To celebrate Rosella’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture service held at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Rosella was born on April 27, 1925, in Holy Cross, Iowa, daughter of Mike and Catherine (Neumann) Ruden.

Rosella was united in marriage to Donald Jasper on April 30, 1947, sadly they were only blessed with 14 years together, before he was called home ahead of her on May 6, 1961. After moving to Dubuque, Rosella went to work with the Dubuque Packing Company, Dubuque Stamping Company and Rainbo Tire/Tandem Auto Service. In her free time, Rosella enjoyed watching her Cubs, playing Bingo and cards, and sewing. Beyond a doubt Rosella was happiest when spending time with her family.

Alvara A. Schmidt

Alvara A. Schmidt, 93, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at her home in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A funeral mass celebrating Alvara’s life will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, and again after 10 A.M. Thursday at the church. A 3:30 P.M. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Alvara Ann Deppe was born on January 4, 1926 in Springbrook, Iowa, to Louis and Irene (Kiehold) Deppe. She grew up in Springbrook and attended Springbrook Catholic School. She married John Ambrose “Jimmy” Schmidt on May 7, 1946 in Springbrook, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2005.

Alvara first farmed with her husband in the Bellevue/Springbrook area moving to Maquoketa in 1966. She then worked for Western Auto as a sales clerk for 15 years and later for Jackson State Bank as a teller for 8 years.

Alvara was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa and a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael #1156. Additionally, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Past President’s. She enjoyed playing euchre, bowling, visiting area casinos, and being on the river. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Paulette (Gary) DuVall of Hanover, IN, Bob (Pam) Schmidt of Dubuque, IA, Dale (Judy) Schmidt of Maquoketa, IA, Doug (Sandy) Schmidt of Morris, IL, Virgil (Jody) Schmidt of Maquoketa, IA, and Annette (Edward) Lechtenberg of Maquoketa, IA; a daughter-in-law, Barb Grimm of Charlotte, IA; sisters, Karen Gonner of Bellevue, IA, and Dianne (Harvey Jr.) Seiler of Bellevue, IA; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend Jim Otruba of Leisure Lake, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Dean, brothers Kenneth, Kermit and Gene Deppe, and 2 grandchildren Jonathan Schmidt and Peter Schmidt.

John E. Cressey

John E. Cressey, 83, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday morning, May 4, 2019, at his home in Maquoketa, surrounded by his family.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 10, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, where a 6:45 P.M. Masonic Service will be held. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

John Edward Cressey was born on December 5, 1935 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Harry Milton and Lucille (Bell) Cressey. He was a 1953 graduate of Maquoketa High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home to Maquoketa and married Connie M. Drumm on May 31, 1959 in Maquoketa, Iowa.
John was a lifelong carpenter. He got his start with G.L. Stockham and Son as a Carpenter’s Helper from 1953 to 1955, and from 1958 to 1970 as a Carpenter Superintendent. On February 13, 1970 until 1990, he operated John E. Cressey Construction in Maquoketa where he was the Owner, Estimator and Superintendent. On January 1, 1990 Cressey & Associates was formed and John served as President until retiring in 2009.

John was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa where he had served on various committees including serving on the Building Committee for the church building on Wesley Drive, Chair of Trustees, and taught 8th grade Sunday School for many years. He also was a 55-year member of the Maquoketa Masonic Helion Lodge #36 AF & AM where he held roles of Warden, Secretary and past Worshipful Master.

John was always giving of his time, talent and resources. He had served on the Maquoketa Fire Department and Rescue Squad from 1979 to 1982 where he held the rank of Deputy Chief, served on the Maquoketa School Board from 1979 to 1991 where he was a past President, and was a former Maquoketa City Councilman serving from December 23, 1997 to December 30, 2005.

John enjoyed fishing, boating, horse care and riding, and tending their vineyard. He loved his dogs and had a special place in his heart for his Golden Retriever Lady!

Cressey of Maquoketa, IA; children, Brian (Andy) Cressey of Altoona, IA, and LuAnne (Tom) Yearwood of Maquoketa, IA; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Nicole (Lance) Cressey-Musselman of Gillette, WY, Ryann (Bradley) Cressey-Smith of Green Bay, WI, Shelby Yearwood of Maquoketa, IA, Christina (Todd) Isaacs of Pittsboro, IN, Amanda Kinzle of Greencastle, IN and Debra (Dean) Wyatte of Boulder, CO; 6 great-grandchildren, Ava and Granger Musselman, Jenna, Nathan and Hannah Isaacs, and Gregory Christopher; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald (Connie) Drumm of Coal Valley, IL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda (Paul) Dupuis of Canada; and sister-in-law, Georgia Armstrong of Maquoketa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Roger Cressey, sister-in-law Barbara Cressey and a brother-in-law Robert Drumm.

Sabra Hovey

Sabra “Sue” Hovey, 78, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, in Davenport, Iowa.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa. There is no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

Sabra Sue Stout was born on November 28, 1940 in DeWitt, Iowa, to Glen and Florence (Harksen) Stout. At the age of three her mom died, and she was raised by her aunt Iva and Uncle Henry “Tootie” Smith whom she considered to be her parents. She was a 1958 graduate of DeWitt High School. She married Ronald E. Hovey on July 29, 1967 in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Prior to becoming a stay at home mom, “Sue” had worked in the billing and insurance department at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa. In 1982, she and her husband Ronald opened Hov’s Pub in Maquoketa. The restaurant quickly became a popular eatery and pub. They retired in October of 2006.

“Sue” was a member of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa and the UCC Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed planting flowers, reading books and magazines, sports of all kinds, cooking and recipe collecting, decorating, and holidays. She especially enjoyed meeting and visiting with people.

Those left to honor her memory include three children, Ronelle (Jeff) Clark of Maquoketa, IA, Shane (Jodi) Hovey of Louisburg, KS, and Tyler Hovey of Maquoketa, IA; 5 grandchildren, Delaney Clark, Chance Dubinick, Sydney Clark, Jase Hovey, and Conlee Hovey; and a sister Terri Vetter of DeWitt, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Florence (Harksen) Stout and Iva and Henry “Tootie” Smith, and her husband Ronald on October 27, 2008.

Victor A. Prevatt, Jr.

Victor A. Prevatt Jr. 87, of Dubuque, IA passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer with his loving wife and special niece Vicki at his side on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Platteville, WI. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Funeral Home.

Vic was born in Dubuque, IA on September 17, 1931 the son of Victor A. and Mary (McLaughlin) Prevatt. He graduated high school from the Loras Academy. On January 13, 1979 he married the love of his life, Loretta Spease.

Vic worked for the Dubuque Packing Company for 28 years before retiring. In 1984 he moved to San Antonio, TX and worked for Star Food. After retirement from there he moved back to Dubuque and worked part time at Coca Cola for 10 years.

Christmas was very special to Vic. He loved to decorate and loved playing Santa Claus. He would always make sure to have Candy Canes for the kids.

Vic enjoyed five wonderful winters in Florida. He loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren. He loved boating and traveling, most of all he loved his wife Loretta.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta, son, Tom Prevatt of Tucson, AR; two stepsons, Kelvin (Cathy) Orton of Sun Prairie, WI and Derek Orton of Dubuque, two grandsons, Joseph and William Orton of Sun Prairie, WI; a sister, Nancy Dolan of Dubuque; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and James Udelhoven of Edgerton, WI; several nieces and nephews and a very special friend and Neighbor Charlie Klein.

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dorrance Prevatt and a brother-in-law, Albie Dolan.

Herman E. Kloser

Herman E. “Hermie” Kloser, age 86, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 4:50 p.m., on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Hemie’s life, funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Hermie’s life, family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m., until the time of services at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.
Hermie was born on April 13, 1933, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, son of Albert and Lucy (Riniker) Kloser.
Hermie was born and raised in North Buena Vista where he worked on the farm from the time he was young. He was drafted during the Korean War, into the U.S. Army, and would honorably serve his country for 4 years. When Hermie returned home he would return to farming and marry the love of his life, Mathilda “Tillie” Juran, on August 2, 1958, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Buenie. The two were blessed with 4 children and 59 wonderful years together before Tillie was sadly called home ahead of him on April 2, 2018. Hermie’s faith was always a very important aspect of his daily life and he was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church after he and Tillie moved to Dubuque. In their younger days every Saturday nightwas “date” night for the adorable couple, and they could be found out on the town dancing the night away. In later years, Hermie found that he enjoyed relaxing and sitting down to watch a good western movie or tv show. Family, however, meant the world to Hermie, and he loved spending time with everyone whenever the opportunity arose. We are deeply saddened at the loss of the patriarch of our family today, but take some comfort in knowing that he and his loving bride are now reunited on that big dance floor in the sky for all Eternity.

Ronald J. Heinricy

Ronald J. Heinricy, of Kieler, Wisconsin, died Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Edenbrook in Platteville. Ron was born on July 14, 1938, in Bellevue, Iowa, the son of Roman and Mary (Keuter) Heinricy. He married Lavon Pickel on October 5, 1968, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler.

Survivors include his wife, Lavon; two daughters, Carissa Heinricy, of Kieler, and Carla (Tony) Schueller, of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Kayla, Courtney and Kylie Schueller; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Roger) Heinricy; and a brother-in-law, Klaus Kröner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger and Dennis Heinricy; and two sisters, Rita (Jim) Hess and Lois (Roger) Gerardy.

James A. Maiers

James A. Maiers, 90, of Dyersville, Iowa, formerly of Holy Cross passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at MercyOne in Dyersville.

Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross. Visitation will continue from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.

Jim was born February 8, 1929, in Holy Cross, Iowa, the son of John and Rose (Ungs) Maiers. He married Mary Ann Joester on August 13, 1949. Together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage.

Jim co-owned and operated Maiers Implement & Hardware in Holy Cross for 30 years and later owned and operated Maiers Ag. Service.

He loved his farm and all aspects of farming. He most enjoyed his time with his family; his children, granddaughters and great grandchildren were a special joy to him.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, three sons: Steve Maiers of Holy Cross, and his children, Stacy, Michele, Julie, Emily, and Morgan; Bill (Jackie) Maiers of Dubuque, and his step-children, Chad, Casey, Courtney, and Chris; Jeff (Lois) Maiers of Salado, TX, and his children, Nicholette and Katherine; one daughter, Ann (Arthur) Weinstein of Albuquerque, NM, a sister, Sr. Alice Maiers of Cedar Rapids and his sister-in-law, Norma Kerper of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, August (Gus) and Hilda Joester; siblings: Charles Maiers and Rosemary Lane; in-laws: James Joester, Al Kerper and John Lane.

Howard L. Johnson

Howard L. Johnson, 94, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2019, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11:15 A.M. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place and burial will be in the East Iron Hill Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors.

Howard Luke Johnson was born on April 14, 1925 in Monmouth, Iowa, to Harry and Angeline (Edwards) Johnson. He was educated in Monmouth and then served his country in the Army Air Corps in World War II, receiving an honorable discharge. He married Norma L. Hute on July 10, 1945 in Kahoka, Missouri.

Howard first worked for Claude Harrington as a fuel deliveryman and also wired houses on his own. He then worked for Clinton Engines in the die cast department for several years. Upon Clinton Engines closing, he became plant manager of several die cast companies all over the Midwest. He then moved to Wiggins, Colorado where he owned and operated a well-drilling company. In retirement, he managed several trailer parks in both DeWitt and Maquoketa.

Howard was a member of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa. He enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and antiquing. He also enjoyed RV traveling and camping for 30 years all over the United States with his wife Norma.

Those left to honor Howard’s memory include his children, John (Linda) Johnson of Fond du Lac, WI, Janna (Terry) Kaufman of Maquoketa, IA, Julie (Al) Thole of Maquoketa, IA and Susan (Ken) Cole of Reno, NV; 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 9 sisters and his wife Norma on February 4, 2012.

Jean H. (Love) Bell

Jean Henrietta (Love) Bell, of Dubuque, passed away on April 30, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, where visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Dana Perreand will officiate. Interment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum, Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Jean was born on March 23, 1926, in Dubuque, the daughter of Jerome (Jerry) and Bertha (Utzig) Love. She attended Sacred Heart School­ and Immaculate Conception Academy.

On April 20, 1944 she married the love of her life, Harlan (Bud) Bell in Dubuque. They celebrated 67 years of an endearing marriage before Harlan passed away in 2011.

Jean worked at her father’s bar, Jerry’s Tap, and her brother’s bar, The Grand Tap. After she raised her two children, she babysat several years for family and friends, and then helped raise all seven of her grandchildren.

Jean was a loving wife, mother, friend and “Nana” to her grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were her world, and she was theirs. Jean was known by all for her extremely loving nature, kindness, and generosity; and her impeccable fashion sense and unparalleled cooking skills.

She is survived by her son, Jerry (Kim) Bell and daughter, Pamela Fassbinder both of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Michael Fassbinder of Dubuque, Jennifer Fassbinder (fiancé Alex Kocin) of Cleveland, OH, Sara (Ryan) Salter of Scottsdale, AZ, Kristina Bell (Ethan) Vanous of Des Moines, Nicholas Bell of Keystone, CO, Brianna Jean Bell of Farley, and Jenna Love Bell of Iowa City; great grandchild, Rowan Salter; nieces and nephews; and cousins.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents, Jerry and Bertha; three brothers, Don (Harriet), Harold (Rita) and Ken (Dorothy); her sister, Mildred Love ; her father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Helen (Haug) Bell; and her brother-in-law, Thomas (Jayne) Bell.

A special thank you to all who knew and loved Jean, and to Dr. Konz and the nursing staff at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for their compassionate care.

A Jean Bell memorial fund has been established.

Herbert C. Bailey

Herbert C. Bailey, 95, of Dubuque, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Stonehill Care Center.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Jonathan Crawford officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Dubuque Marine Corps League immediately following. Burial will be in Linwood.

Herbert was born on August 20, 1923 in Bellevue, Iowa the son of Charles and Beata (Tietjen) Bailey. He married Dorothy Masscey-Puls on September 28, 1963 in Dubuque. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2013.

During WWII he served our country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Africa, France and Germany.

Herbert was an accountant and treasurer for 40 years at Frank Hardy Advertising, retiring in 1989.

Herbert was a long time, active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He loved big band music, playing the piano, traveling and horseracing. He was an avid sportsman and as a young man enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, golf and softball.

He is survived by his step-son, Thomas C. Puls.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, cash memorials can be given to Area Residential Care or St Paul Lutheran Church.

Margaret E. Dolson

Margaret E. Dolson, 96, of Stonehill Care Center and formerly of 3090 Karen Rd., died Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Stonehill Care Center. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2nd, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road, with a Parish scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Margaret was born on January 31,1923, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Elizabeth (Russ) Henschel. She attended Dubuque Senior High School and graduated in 1940. On October 24, 1942, Margaret married Henry “Hank” Dolson at Santa Ana Army Air Base, Orange County, CA. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2007.

Margaret and Hank were avid members of the Tri State Twirlers square dancers, followed the Cubs religiously, enjoyed more than 20 winters together in Ft. Pierce, Florida, and we’re married to each other for 65 years. Margaret loved that she was able to watch the Cubbies win a World Series, and she continued to watch them as often as she could. She was a member and supporter of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and EWTN for many years, loved to play euchre, was an avid bridge player, loved to knit and crochet, and enjoyed following all her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments in life.

Surviving are her children, Carolyn (Dick) Noesen of Dubuque, Cathy (Roger) Puls of Hoffman Estates, IL, Jeanne Keck of Dubuque, Stephen Dolson of Nederland, CO, Timothy (Carol) Dolson of Dubuque, Janice (Monty) Casebolt of Livingston, MT, Peter (Bonnie) Dolson of Ft. Pierce, FL, Mary Alice (Dale) Dolson of Lakewood, CO and Randy (Peggy) Dolson of North Liberty, IA; 41 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hank; her son, Dennis; her grandson Thomas Keck; her great grandson, Miles Dolson; her siblings, Dolores Manley, Mary Jane Harstick, Eileen Richmond, Kathleen (Frank) Hoover, Emil (Bernice) Henschel, Richard (Jean) Henschel, and niece Lorlee Manley Ihm.
