Thomas and Sheryl Helling

Thomas “Tom” and Sheryl “Sherry” Helling, of Dubuque, IA, completed their earthly journeys within hours of one another on January 31, 2022, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.  To honor Tom’s life, a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Mt. Calvary Chapel, 1111 Davis Street in Dubuque, with Father James Chappell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Tom and Sherry’s family.

Tom and Sherry were both born in Dubuque, IA, and were clearly predestined to become soulmates in time.  Tom was born on April 4, 1943, and Sherry on July 7, 1942, and they spent their early years surrounded by family and friends while waiting patiently for the day to arrive where their love would finally blossom and their lives together could begin.  They were eventually united in marriage at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dubuque in the May of 1966, and began their journey through the rest of their lives devoted to one another until their very last day when they were only separated for a few hours and would next begin their eternity together.  Tom spent his working years in the Maintenance Department with the City of Dubuque, and Sherry was a secretary for Edwards Precast for a few years as well.  When the workday was completed, you could easily find Tom and Sherry together enjoying each other’s company as they waited for the sunrise to start another day.  Their love and devotion to one another never wavered and their commitment was always on display.  It’s beyond difficult for our hearts to conceive the realization that they have both left us so suddenly, but there is definitely some peace in knowing that they weren’t apart for longer than either would have endured without the great pain of loss.  We will treasure every memory which they leave behind and seek peace and healing from this tragic loss until we see them again.  Thank you, Tom and Sherry, for always making love such a visible priority in your lives and may we strive to carry your legacy within our own relationships moving forward as we also face each day ahead without you.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Tom and Sherry include,

their siblings and in-law’s,
Patricia Casey, Dubuque, IA,
Victor “Gus” Helling, Dubuque, IA,
Billie (Bill) Schuyler, Varna, IL,
Joyce Helling, Dubuque, IA,
Peg Helling, Dubuque, IA,
and Herb Klinkhammer, Dubuque, IA;

their Godchildren,
Tim Helling, Kristin Walker, and Jill Tennyson;

Sherry’s niece and nephew,
Jessica (Josh) Weir, and their daughter, Emma,
Scott (Michelle) Schuyler, and their daughter, Sarah;

Tom’s 19 nieces and nephews, 46 great-nieces and nephews, and 28 great-great nieces and nephews;

along with numerous other extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Tom and Sherry were preceded in death by their parents, Victor and Geraldine (Feller) Helling, and William Jones and Gayle (Ernster) Blum; their siblings and in-law’s, James Helling, Robert Helling, Carol Klinkhammer, Tom Casey, and Ann Helling; and Sherry’s stepfather, Leroy Blum.

Geraldine A. Anthony

Geraldine Ann “Gerry” Anthony, age 88, of Galena, IL completed her earthly journey on March 3, 2022, at the Galena-Stauss Nursing Home, while surrounded by her loving family. To honor Gerry’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., St. Walter Catholic Church, 130 W. Pine St., Roselle, IL, with Fr. Mario Quejadas officiating. Gerry was born on July 25, 1933, in Chicago, IL, eldest daughter to Nicholas and Betsy (Cukierski) Mueller. She was the oldest of 8 children and instrumental in their nurturing, care and development.  She enjoyed playing softball in high school and favored the Chicago White Sox baseball team. Gerry was raised to have a love and devotion to God, family and friends from a very early age and this was a trait that she carried throughout her entire 88 years.  She raised three beautiful, strong, and independent daughters, while reinforcing the importance of carrying beauty not only on the outside for the world to see, but more importantly on the inside for the world to witness even more.  Her romantic heart was never hardened and the loving kindness she so generously shared in real life was akin to her favorite stories she would watch on the Hallmark channel.  Gerry worked in the vending hospitality industry for many years and took pride in her work and the people she mentored and worked beside.  She was a proud member of the Senior Group at St. Francis of Assisi in Bolingbrook, IL, and always appreciated the opportunity to fellowship whenever possible. Gerry treasured her time with family. She enjoyed cooking for them and could light up a room with stories and her contagious smile and laugh.  Our Mother Mary held a special place in her heart, and she would pray the rosary often. Gerry adored angles especially her guardian angel and now we pray that she has met hers in person.  It’s difficult to imagine a world without our beloved matriarch leading the way, but we know that the Lord will keep her safe in His loving arms until we meet her again.  Thank you, Gerry, for being the exact amount of love and light the world around you needed. May your reunion with all of your loved ones who’ve been called home ahead of you be even more glorious than we could even imagine.  We love you; we miss you, and we will treasure every memory forever more.

First and foremost, Rose was a loving wife and mother.  Although she had various occupations after her children were raised, her main focus was always Paul and her children.  They were her world.  Outside of work, Rose loved getting involved in a variety of activities that often involved family such as bowling leagues, golf at Lacoma, oil painting, and seasonal crafting get-togethers with the grandkids.  Rose loved all kinds of crafting and artistic creativity.  She was a gifted painter and made many crocheted blankets.  Weekends often meant staying up late to watch classic movies with her children, and later on, with any of the grandchildren that were having a sleepover.  Rose also loved shopping.  But more than any of those, Rose enjoyed holiday family gatherings.  Every holiday meant a house decorated to the utmost, filled with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and enough food to feed an army.  At any point during these gatherings, one could find Rose sitting with a child sitting on her lap and a song and smile on her lips.  When family wasn’t visiting, Rose always had her dogs and cats for company.  Every moment with Rose was first met with a song and a “what do you need”.  Her life’s focus was unconditional love and care for her family.

Gordon Sargent

Gordon “Gene” Sargent, age 75, of Warren, IL, completed his earthly journey on March 1, 2022, at UnityPoint Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA.  To honor Gene’s life, a private family service is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Gene’s family.

Gene was born on March 21, 1946, in Monroe, WI, a son to Donald and Margery (McConnell) Sargent.  He was a proud graduate of Warren High School and soon moved into his lifelong career in the field of carpentry and concrete construction.  Gene was an expert in the field and traveled countless miles over the years to bring his expertise directly to the jobsite. He eventually found his soul-mate, Cheryl Pfab, and the couple was united in marriage on January 25, 2010, in Galena, IL.  Gene and Cheryl enjoyed many activities together over the years, including Gene being a car enthusiast and to the pleasures of enjoying the good life at their home in the country.  Gene had a great sense of humor that was continually ready and willing to be shared and his love and adoration for his family was second to none. Thank you, Gene, for making others joy a priority in your life and may the Lord keep you safe in His loving arms until we see you again.
