John H. Del Degan

John H. Del Degan, age 64 of Dubuque, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on July 25, 2020, at home, surrounded by his loving family.  To honor John’s life, his Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Barrington Lakes Pavilion, 11197 Lakeview Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, 52003.  All of our family and friends are welcome to join us in friendship and fellowship as we honor the legacy which John has left behind.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving John’s family.

John was born on June 24, 1956 in Toronto, Canada, a son to Enrico and Wanda (Zamalo) Del Degan.  He earned his Bachelors of Science in Geology from the University of Waterloo in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and did some prospecting and worked in an amethyst mine before moving to San Diego to begin the next chapter in his life.  It was there that he met his beautiful bride, Pamela Saylor, and the couple was united in marriage on September 28, 2002.  John has surely been called home much too early, but his years were thankfully abundantly full of all that is good in this world.  John was currently investing his working hours with John Deere Dubuque Works, but he had worked in IT for the majority of his working career, primarily with IBM, and PB & J Consulting.  But, anyone who knew John also understood that his heart always belonged in the field of Geology.  He was blessed to have had many adventures of being set free into the wilderness to scout for new formations with only the hope of weekly support being air dropped in along the way.  In earlier years he spent plenty of time in the dojo working on his martial arts and more recently was actively involved in supporting his daughter Rika, with her interest in English style horse riding and competitions.  Building computers brought some satisfaction to his days as well, and he gladly provided the entire family computer consulting and advice.  John lived his life to the fullest each and every day.  His commitment to his family was undeniable and playing the role of husband and father was not only what he was made to do, but truly where he shined the most.  John was a kind, gentle, genuine, and polished soul who understood that romance beat routine every day, and that sacrifice was as rewarding as facing any challenge which came his way.  The world is definitely a lesser place today without John’s effervescent energy connecting so effortlessly with everyone he encountered, and thankfully he has left us with an amazing collection of memories to treasure through the years ahead.  Thank you, John, for setting the bar so high and for continually role-modeling what a real man looks and acts like.  May peace from your earthly battles be yours now and may you be safely kept in the Lord’s loving arms until we meet again.  Job well done Thy good and faithful servant!

Those left behind to cherish the memory of John include,

his loving wife and partner of 20 years,
Pamela Del Degan, Dubuque, Iowa;

his adored daughter,
Rika Del Degan, Dubuque, Iowa;

his siblings,
Maureen Del Degan, Toronto, Canada,
and Dan (Colleen) Del Degan, Seminole, Florida;

his sisters-in-law,
Mary (Richard) Meyer,
and Marilyn (David) McDermott;

along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors.

John was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and mother and father-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to Hospice of Dubuque.

John’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the University of Iowa, and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care.  Also, a very sincere thank you to Madonna Friedman, OSF, and all of our family and friends who have been so generous with their time, support, and endless efforts.  Your kindness has brought more peace into a difficult time than you could ever imagine.  May God bless you all for the parts you have played.

Jean M. Hingtgen

Jean Marie Noel Hingtgen was a born beauty. Inside and out until Dementia seized her too early. Jean was born December 18, 1932, and died peacefully in her sleep on June 19, 2021

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Thursday, June 24, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Nativity.

Jean was the 2nd daughter of 10 children born to Tony and Ruth (Vogel) Noel. She had a busy childhood, filled with the special arrival of a brother or sister sent by God every year or two. Jean grew up loving babies and cherishing the life of the unborn.

She worked at the Dubuque Packing Company in her late teens, and she quickly caught the eye of a strapping Mickey Hingtgen. They married on May 16, 1953, and were together for 62 years. God sent Jean and Mick six babies, Mary Pamela Jochum, Debra (Lon) Link, Daniel (Regina), Sandra, Amy (Jonathan), Asbury, and John (Rita) Hingtgen. Jean and Mick raised their family in East Dubuque, Illinois, as part of the St. Mary’s Catholic community.

If keeping house were an artform, Jean was an artist. Her home was visitor-ready at any moment. Clothing was washed, hung out to dry, and ironed every day. Of course, all of that ironing led to some pretty tight soap operas and weekly coffee breaks with neighbor Pearl Rosemeyer or Jean’s sister-in-law Helen Oster who both lived houses away.

For entertainment, Jean was part of a Mother’s Club that took on charitable causes in the community. She was a devoted member of the Power of Prayer, where she and Mickey helped keep a constant and continual rosary going for years. As her children grew and needed her less, she became the caregiver of her aunt Mugsie and older cousin, Clara. Jean made a point to make every holiday and birthday special with good food, a dedicated Euchre table, and many presents or treats.

Jean became a grandmother in 1977 to her beloved Sarah; ten more grandbabies followed. She cherished grandchildren Tony (Emily) Link, Peter Link, Jenifer (Anthony) Bonefeste, Jean & Ami Hingtgen, Ayla and Cooper Asbury, Jack, Alex, and Kate Hingtgen. Faces confused Jean, but the faces of her grandkids produced recognition even after Dementia stole their names.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband Eugene “Mickey,” daughter Sandra, two granddaughters Jean and Sarah, her parents Ruth and Tony, two brothers Dick and Don Noel, and two sisters Helen McLaughlin and Genny Landa.

Surviving siblings: Mary Ann Miller, Kay Potts, Barb Toomey, John Noel and Hope Maus. Jean was fortunate to have sisters and brothers, and in-laws close by or visit often. In her lifetime, Jean saw 61 baby nieces and nephews arrive. They are now all grown and have over 100 babies to love. Jean wasn’t able to meet her three great-grandchildren, but she will indeed watch over them in her immaculately clean, heavenly home.

The Hingtgen family extends a warm thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and Hawkeye Care Center.

On June 18, 2021, Duane Beecher, finally got to leave the body that has tried to hold him down for 28 years.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12 Noon, Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque.

The Celebration of Duane’s Life will begin at 12 Noon, at the funeral home, on Saturday, June 26, 2021.  The service will be live streamed on Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home’s Facebook page and will also be available to view later at www.hskfhcares.com.

Duane was born on January 30, 1955, the son of John “Jack” Beecher and Flora Lue (Morgan) Beecher.  He attended Resurrection Grade School and graduated from Wahlert High School. On August 31, 1973, he married the love of his life, JoAnne Klauer. Together they created four beautiful sons and were foster parents and daycare providers.

Duane worked at Beecher Gas Station, the company started by his grandfather and the place where he met his future wife. He went on to work for Beecher Quarries, Tschiggfrie Excavating, River City Stone and eventually IEI Barge Services as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He took great pride in his work, even when he was severely challenged by Iowa winters and summers. He was always the guy who was there for everybody…no matter what they needed.

In 1993, Duane’s body started to rebel. Over the next 28 years, he was bombarded by one ailment after another. There were good times and very bad times…but through it all, Duane and JoAnne kept loving and living and fighting back.  In 2003 he was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer and started the fight for his life. He endured the cancer treatment with grace and dignity. He eventually had his larynx removed. He learned to speak esophageal speech and was very proud that he could be good at a technique that is very difficult. Duane looked forward to the Cancer Society Relay for Life each year. He walked nine times as a Cancer Survivor. Five years ago, the radiation damage took its toll on his body. He went to the Mayo Clinic where he had to have his esophagus removed.  This meant that his wonderful method of speech was now impossible, and he would never again be able to eat, BUT, Duane always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone he met.

The last five years were very difficult, and it was hard for him to keep going. He was getting tired, and the fight was very hard. After a final fight in the hospital, he quietly rose to heaven surrounded by his family in the home that they all shared for 42 years.

Duane is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years and his four sons, Tim (Molly) of Dubuque, Jeff of Dubuque, Andy (Jennifer) of Davenport and Ed of Dubuque. He has also left nine grandchildren with another on the way: Evan, Maddie, Emily, Ally, Sam, Bailey, Paisley, Roman and River. He is also survived by his siblings, Mike (Connie) of Sedalia, Missouri, Marty (Sandy) of Panama City, Florida, Joe (Vickey) of Oskaloosa, Iowa, John of Dubuque, and Christina Baron of Chicago, Illinois; two aunts, Betty Beecher and Pat Maiers; lots of nieces, nephews and cousins and his two little dogs, Willow and Norman, who were his greatest source of smiles in his life.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Flora Beecher; his in-laws, Herbert and Bernadette Klauer; all of his grandparents, and three brothers-in-law that he thought the world of.

The family would like to thank all the people who gave special care to Duane over all of these years: Dr. John Hartmann, Dr. Tim King, Dr. Ryan Stille, Dr, Mark Janes, Dr. K. Robert Shen, the wonderful nurses at MercyOne in Dubuque and in the ICU and the 6th floor at St. Mary’s Mayo Hospital in Rochester and a special thanks to Nurse Sandy Radke, who along with Duane, started a Laryngectomee Support Group so other survivors of laryngeal cancer could tell their stories. Thank you to Lincare Home Medical Equipment and MercyOne Home Medical Equipment for their great service. Thank you to the pharmacists at HyVee on Locust in Dubuque and of course, thank you to Hospice of Dubuque. There have been so many people involved in making Duane’s life a little easier for him and they will all tell you what a sweet and loving patient that he was to take care of.

Duane loved his gardens and nature in general. It would be his wish that you do not send cut flowers to the funeral home, but would greatly prefer that you send a plant, plant some flowers, go for a walk in the woods, or plant a tree to be a reminder of the life of this wonderful man.

Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in care of the arrangements.

Darrell was born on July 31, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Milton “Mickey” and Joan (Riniker) Hefel.

Darrell graduated from Guttenberg High School, Class of 1976.  He was a hard worker and was employed with Ertl Toy in Dyersville for 20 years.  He then attended machine operator school in Sun Prairie, WI, before going to work with Steger-Heiderscheit Construction for over 20 years.  Darrell was always very generous with his time, and volunteered countless hours to doing whatever needed to be done at the Immaculate Conception Church.  When he wasn’t working Darrell enjoyed helping out on the farm, camping at Whitetail Bluff, boating and vacationing with the “Buenie Bunch”.  He truly loved to travel with his family and friends, always to a warm and sunny location where there was a nice beach.  He also enjoyed taking road trips for the day, and his skills as the designated driver, “one way”, are legendary.  He always generously opened his home to the entire family, which is quite a crowd, so they could all be together to celebrate Christmas.  Darrell was a man of few words who was always smiling and in a good mood.  He was a kind, soft spoken and unassuming man who truly made the world a better place.  He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Those left to cherish Darrell’s memory include
