Karen A. Kleppe
Karen Ann (Ambrosy) Kleppe, 59 of Anamosa, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
Friends may call from 12pm-2pm Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road where a private family funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Ministers Tim Miller and Rodney Blumi officiating. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we encourage and require the wearing of masks and social distancing while attending the visitation.
Karen was born March 13, 1961 in Monticello the daughter of Wendel & Callista (Pfab) Ambrosy, of Bernard. She was a graduate of Western Dubuque High School. Karen was united in marriage to her best friend and love of her life Gale Kleppe on June 28, 1986, at The First Congregational Church of Christ Dubuque. They resided in Wyoming, until moving to Anamosa.
Karen was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. For many years she was a childcare provider and later cleaned for businesses. She enjoyed time with family and friends. She was the life of the party and her laugh was contagious. Karen enjoyed playing cards and baking. Her mother passed on the baking gene and Karen was known for “Grandma’s Cookies,” which were a family favorite. Karen and Gale opened their home and hearts to many foster children.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband Gale, their daughters Clarissa and Jessie Kleppe, Cyndi Janssens, and Jennifer Weirup and several grandchildren. Siblings Leonard (Deb) Ambrosy of Bernard, Martin (Carol) Ambrosy of Dubuque, Darlene (Pat) Koob of Palestine,TX. Her in-laws Dennis & JoAnn Kleppe of Lost Nation. Brother & Sister-in-laws Vicki (Max) McNeil, Valori Marr, Gary (Debbie) Kleppe. Along with nieces and nephews who adored her.
Preceded in death by her parents Wendel & Callista, and her brother Loras Ambrosy; and many Aunts and Uncles.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Above and Beyond Home Health Care and Hospice, and Jones County Regional Medical Center for the great care and compassion they gave to Karen.
Joseph L. Rosemeyer
Joseph L. “Joe” Rosemeyer, 96, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away Monday afternoon, January 4, 2021 at ManorCare Health Services in Dubuque.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, with Fr. Peter Snieg officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post # 787 of East Dubuque. The funeral will be live-streamed on the Miller Funeral Home Group facebook page.
A walk-through visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at church, prior to the funeral mass. Due to the Covid-19 virus, face masks, social distancing, and occupancy restrictions are to be observed.
The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque is serving the family.
Joe was born on a farm west of Hazel Green, WI, on February 15, 1924, the fourth son of Francis (Frank) and Lucilla (Runde) Rosemeyer. He attended grade school at St. Joseph School at Sinsinawa and St. Mary’s in East Dubuque. Joe attended East Dubuque High School for three years, later he earned his GED, and subsequently was awarded his diploma from East Dubuque High School. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1942 and served In the South Pacific for fourteen months. Joe was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Violet E. “Vi” Wetter in 1959 at Nativity Church in Dubuque. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2011. Joe worked for Myers-Cox Company for thirty-three years and later for Honkamp Krueger P.C. part-time.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish and its Holy Name Society, American Legion Post # 787, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars # 7976 both of East Dubuque. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing, along with many sand bars while boating on the Mississippi River.
Surviving is a brother Francis (Pearlie) Rosemeyer of East Dubuque; a sister-in-law Theresa Wetter, a brother-in-law Bruce (Lynn) Wetter; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and their wives, Norb (Rita), Lloyd (Mildred), and Vincent (Alice) Rosemeyer, two sisters, Rita (Jack) Allgeyer and Mary (Tom) Fluhr; two brothes-in-law, Milton Wetter and Kenneth (Leola) Calonder; three nieces, Jill Kamm, Vickie Vaughan and Susan (Tollefson) Rosemeyer of Davenport, two nephews, Anthony “Tony” Rosemeyer and Robert Calonder.
Joe wishes to thank all of his friends for all the good times he has had over the years. You made life a big joy for me. “Thank you”.

Donald J. Hamilton
Donald James Hamilton, 81, of Dubuque, IA passed away on January 5, 2021 in Iowa City at the Bird-House Hospice Home of Johnson County.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8th, 2021 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Family and friends may gather after 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Don was born on September 16, 1939 in Waterloo Township, Grant County, WI the son of Edward and Louise (Scharff) Hamilton. He graduated from Cuba City High School.
He worked for the former Dubuque Packing Company until their closure in 2001; and for the past 15 years was the owner and operator of Don’s Lawn Service.
Don enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, NASCAR and local stock car racing.
He is survived by his daughter Amy (Nate) Bradley of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren, Nicholas, Noah and Maya Bradley of North Liberty. His sister Virginia Bertram, of Platteville, WI; his brother Leonard (Janet) Hamilton, of Cuba City, WI; brother-in-law Arthur Rubie, of Dubuque, IA along with many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Kenneth Hamilton and a sister Helen Rubie.

Maxine A. Griep
Maxine Annette Griep, 95 of Bethany Home passed away on January 3, 2021 at Bethany Home. A service will be held at a later date at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be left at www.leonardfuneralhome.com
She was born in Baldwin, Wisconsin on September 21, 1925 the daughter of Joe and Hazel (Walfoort) Huenink. She received her BA from Central College in Pella and her MA from Clark College in Dubuque
Maxine married Clarence Griep in 1948 and was widowed in 1982. In a life devoted to education, her teaching career began in Mediapolis, IA and finished at the Chiang Mai International School, Thailand. In between she taught in several schools, including Clark College and Hempstead High School.
Maxine was active in Westminster Presbyterian Church and also a member of the League of Women Voters for over 50 years. Both before and after her retirement she volunteered in too many organizations to list and visited too many countries to count.
Maxine was an inspiration to her family and friends. Her younger friends often said that when they grew up, they wanted to be like Maxine.
She is survived by her children; Mary (Randy) Griep-Jennings (Northfield, MN), Thomas (Julie) Griep (Dubuque, IA), Emily (Jeff) Keressen-Griep (Vancouver, WA), Joanne (Lynn) Adams (Iowa Falls, IA). A sister Bernice Blauw (Holland, MI). Grandchildren: Allison, Claire, Blaire, Max, Victoria, Sam, Sara, A great grandchild: Malcolm
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Griep (1923 – 1982), her parents and a sister, JoAnne.

Janet V. Grew
Janet V. (Peter) Grew, age 88, of Dubuque, passed away at 3:20 p.m., on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Grand Meadows. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is assisting the family.
Janet was born on August 19, 1932, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of John A. and Mary (Horsfall) Peter.
Janet graduated from high school and went on to attend Eastern Washington College of Education in Cheney, WA. She would move to Massachusetts and make her home for 36 years, until returning to Dubuque in the late 90’s. Her faith was very important to her. Janet was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she volunteered her time with the St. John’s Lutheran Clothes Closet. Janet was always ready to lend a helping hand, she served as a Brownie Girl Scout Leader and spent countless hours at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. When she found a little extra free time in her days, Janet could be found sitting and painting, or getting together with friends for some country line dancing. She also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles. We are deeply saddened at Janet’s passing away, but are very thankful for the 88 years she was here with us, and the countless life lessons she taught us along the way. Janet will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her, and we hope everyone whose life she touched will follow her example of always leaving things better than she found them.

Charlene L. Hansel
Charlene L Hansel, 96, of Sanibel Island, FL, died of Covid-19 Friday, January 1, 2021, at Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque. Her passing was peaceful, and her son and daughter-in-law were able to be with her. All of her children and many of her grandchildren were able to see and talk to her remotely.
Charlene was born on June 6, 1924, in Galena, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Louise (Lawyer) Jeffrey. She grew up in Galena among a large extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and 26 cousins who were all very close. She was gifted with a beautiful singing voice, and music was a very important part of her life. During her high school years she was the MC of pep rallies and student functions at which she led the singing. She was Queen of the Mardi Gras parade in Galena in the late 1930’s. She graduated from Galena High School and Henrotin Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill, during WWII. She worked as a nurse at both Mercy and Finley Hospitals in Dubuque.
She married Richard V (Dick) Hansel on July 14, 1946, at Emmanuel Congregational Church in Dubuque. They spent 61 years together and raised four children. He was a well-known contractor and land developer in Dubuque, and throughout all of those years they worked together as a team. Charn, as she was always known, was a gifted decorator and decorated all of Dick’s open houses through the years. She used her voice singing in the choir at Grandview Methodist Church where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and member of the women’s circle. Along with church organist, Amber Jones, who played piano, Charn sang at various nursing homes every week for the residents. She also was in demand to sing at weddings and other functions. She was involved in all of her children’s activities and worked with the PTA at Irving Elementary School as well as being a Cub Scout leader and a member of The Republican Women’s group.
Charn and Dick cherished their family and spent time boating on the Mississippi River almost every weekend along with a wonderful group of family friends. They loved to dance and were great dancers. After moving to Sanibel Island, Fl, in 1976, they spent seven months of each year there and made even more friends, fished on the Sanibel River behind their home, walked on the beaches collecting shells, and were always busy. They raised and showed Budgerigar birds and won lots of prizes for them. Charn did exquisite shell crafts, even winning the Sanibel Shell Fair one year. They loved their church, the Sanibel Community Church, where Charn was a long standing member of the choir. She was also one of the founding members of the Sanibel Community Chorus. She continued to play piano even until this past year.
Charn is survived by her children: Holly Hansel Kamm, Richard L (Diane) Hansel, and Jeffrey (Julie) Hansel all of Dubuque and Deborah Hansel of Loveland, CO; grandchildren Heather (Scott) Clark, Erin (Shawn) Story, Bryan (Ilena) Hansel, Becky Hansel, Eric (Destiny Meyer) Hansel, Adam (Kristina) Hansel, Angie (Chuck Johnson) Hansel, Elizabeth (JJ Bockenstedt) Hansel, Jennifer (Troy) Steffen, Curtis (Dana Gross) Rogers, and Jody Rogers; 17 great- grandchildren; and 4 great- great- grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Parkinson; and sister-in-law, Patricia Jeffrey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents Charles and Louise (Lawyer) Jeffrey; her brother, Wesley Jeffrey; her parents-in-law, Wilbert and Blanche (Haught) Hansel; and her sister-in-law, Phyllis Seipp.
There will be a private family burial service at Bethel Church cemetery in Osterdock, IA, on Saturday, January 9th. Egelhof, Siegert and Casper funeral home is in charge of arrangements and will livestream the service at 1 pm, Saturday. A celebration of Charlene’s life will be held at a later date. Donna was born September 6, 1939, in Dubuque, the daughter of Donald and Stella Ryan Whelan. The older sister of Helen Whelan Till. On November 9, 1963, she married John C. Andresen in Dubuque at St. Raphael Cathedral. He preceded her in death April 3, 2020.
She graduated from Mercy School of X-Ray training in Dubuque. She worked in hospitals in Evanston, IL, Denver, CO, and Rock Island, IL.
Donna and John started the Honest John’s family of stores in Galena, IL in 1980, and were very pleased with their growth into three generations. They went on to open the Trading Post, Emporium, Union Leather, Beyond The Horizon in Galena, and HJ’s Fashion Emporium in Dubuque. Formerly, they ran the Pipe Inn, and Andresen’s United in Dubuque. A highlight of her life was that her whole family was involved in the five stores both in Galena and Dubuque.
Donna was involved in various charities and enjoyed her many friends that she met while driving for Meals on Wheels. Her 12 step program saved her life on January 2, 1979, which became a way of life for her. She was actively involved for 42 years of her sobriety.
She devoted her life to helping others in Alcoholic Anonymous program. She believed in people that everyone had given up on, even those that had given up on themselves, she inspired people to overcome their past. During her 42 years of sobriety, she sponsored, befriended, and helped many who were looking for a better, sober life. She was one of several founders of Intergroup, a fellowship of recovered alcoholics, helping others trying to quit.
Survivors include two sons, Don Andresen of East Dubuque, IL and Steve (Diana) Andresen of Galena, IL; one daughter, Terri (Dana) Meadows of East Dubuque, IL; one grandson, Stuart Meadows; three granddaughters, Anna Meadows, Zhenyia Fager, and Julia Andresen; one sister, Helen (Roger) Till; sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Andresen of Dubuque, Patricia Andresen of Dubuque, Mary Mulgrew of Dubuque, Ruth Andresen of Texas, and Sharon Andresen of Arizona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Paul, Jim, Tom, Bill, and Dick; one sister-in-law, Margaret Dodds.

Mark T. Jackson
Mark Thomas Jackson, 59, of Asbury, died Monday, January 4, 2021, at the UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque.

Mark was born August 23, 1961, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Archie and Alice (Knobbe) Jackson. On May 6, 1989, he married Darlene Marie Schaffer at Church of the Nativity in Dubuque.
Mark graduated from Galena High School. He was a member of Church of the Nativity and Galena Elks Lodge #882.
He co-owned Jackson Brothers Construction with his brother, Paul. When Mark wasn’t working, he enjoyed woodworking, antiques, restoration projects, road trips, but most importantly, enjoying his sister’s chocolate cookies and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Asbury; one son, Joshua Jackson of Bloomington, IN; two twin daughters, Kelsey & Emily Jackson of Dubuque; two brothers, Paul (Judy) Jackson of Galena, IL and Brian (Lisa) Jackson of Middleton, WI; one sister, Lynn Gaber of Galena, IL; three sister-in-laws, Virginia Jackson of Rockford, IL, Cathy Jackson of Orange Park, FL and Susie Jackson of Springfield, IL; many nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Steve, Dean, Scott and Ross Jackson and one brother-in-law, Terry Gaber.

Roberta E. Meyer
Roberta E. Meyer, 100, of Luther Manor, died Saturday, January 2, 2021.
Roberta was born December 13, 1920 in Fayette Country, Iowa, daughter of Donald I. and Donna G. (Barney) Meyer. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and Bayless Business College.
From 1939 to 1980, she worked as a secretary and medical assistant for Dr. Donovan F. Ward, continuing secretarial duties for him until 1997. During World War II, she served for three years as a yeoman WAVE, U.S.N.R.
Roberta was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of Julien Dubuque Chapter, O.E.S., and the Dubuque Kennel Club.
She was devoted to her family and friends, as well as her many Boston Terriers. She also enjoyed bowling, boating and many card games.
She is survived by nieces; Nancy McClanahan, and Donna (Scott) Hoffmann; nieces in law, Joyce Marsch and Kathleen Carpenter; nephews, D.J. (Geri) Carpenter, Dennis (Rosa) Carpenter and Daniel (Kristie) Carpenter; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Martha (Meyer) Carpenter and Gertrude (Meyer) Marsch; brothers in law, Earl G. Marsch and Robert E. Carpenter; nephews David L. Carpenter and Gary D. Marsch.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Helen A. (Sullivan) Rodham
Helen A. (Sullivan) Rodham, 89, of Dubuque passed away of natural causes at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 1, 2021 (on her husband John’s 92nd birthday).
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. January 6, 2021 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Msgr. Lyle Wilgenbusch officiating, and will be live streamed on the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Facebook page.. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday January 5, 2021 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and masks will be required at both the visitation and funeral mass.
Helen was born August 24, 1931 in Dubuque, daughter of John and Mabel (Brede) Sullivan. She graduated from the former Visitation Academy.
On October 2, 1954, she married John Rodham at the Church of the Nativity. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2020.
Prior to marriage, Helen played on the Hilldale Dairy women’s basketball team and was employed at Interstate Power Company, as an Executive Administrator, and carried those skills into managing her home effectively and efficiently. Upon her marriage to John, she dedicated her life to raising her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandma. She completed countless college applications and scholarship forms and with her encouragement for education, she was proud to realize five children graduated from Loras College and the other from Creighton University.
Helen enjoyed being active, serving as a member and volunteer for St. Joseph the Worker Church and School, the St. Rose of Lima Mother’s Club and was an active participant at the Dubuque Community Y. A loving mother and homemaker, Helen was an extraordinary cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially over the holidays. She took great pride in opening her home to all with her welcoming smile and loving arms. She enjoyed chauffeuring her children and later her grandchildren, to practices, games, club activities and theatre all the while giving unwavering support with advice, smiles and hugs. A compassionate and caring women, she took on the responsibility of managing her elderly family members’ health and financial needs for several years. John and Helen thoroughly enjoyed all sports and especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and College World Series in Omaha.
Surviving are her children Diane (Roger) Arensdorf, Steve (Kris) Rodham and Karen (Patrick) Reidy all of Dubuque, Laura (Danny) Purcell of Omaha, NE, Gary (Janelle) Rodham of Mesa, AZ and Luke Rodham of Dubuque; her grandchildren Lisa, Abbey, Julie, Molly, Patrick John, Mark, KatieBeth, Michelle, Bridgett, Eric, Nolan, Ellie, Ashley, Nathan, McKenna, Gretchen, Greta, Kelsey and Megan; 15 great grandchildren; and a sister Marian Marlin of Newark, DE and a sister-in-law Carol Tracy of Bend, OR
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald “Rocky” Sullivan, a sister Eileen Miller, a sister-in-law Margaret Sullivan and two brother-in-laws Donald Miller and George Marlin.

Mark L. Johanningmeier, 70, of Kieler, WI, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, January 8th at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 11:00 am with Deacon Bill Biver officiating. Military rights will be accorded following the service. Mark was born September 5, 1950 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Justin and Kathryn (Koester) Johanningmeier. After graduating from Dubuque Senior High School, Mark honorably served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge, he returned to civilian life and was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works. In 1983, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Army and honorably served his country for an additional six years earning rank of Specialist 4th Class. After his military service, he was employed and retired from the Bremerton Naval Shipyards in Bremerton, Washington and returned to the tri-state area in 2001.
He is survived by his siblings, Kris Latham and Jay (Michelle) Johanningmeier all of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Sister Catherine Jean Hayen, BVM
Sister Catherine Jean Hayen, BVM, 78, of 1130 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at Caritas Center.
Sharing of Memories via Zoom will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45 a.m. Burial is in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Sister C. Jean was an elementary teacher at St. Anthony in Dubuque, Iowa, and St. Patrick in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She served as an administrator at Visitation Convent, a resident services coordinator for the Dubuque Housing Initiative, a wellness low vision staff member and an activities aide at Mount Carmel and a T’ai Chi Chih teacher at the Roberta Kuhn Center, all in Dubuque, Iowa. She also taught in Davenport, Iowa, and Cicero, Ill.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Joseph T. and Mildred (Weis) Hayen. She entered the BVM congregation July 31, 1960, from St. Patrick Parish, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She professed first vows on Feb. 2, 1963, and final vows on July 14, 1968.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Linda Bain and brothers-in-law Harold McCoy and Bill Davis.
She is survived by sisters Mary McCoy, Joanne “Joni” Davis, and Margaret (Alan) Fuller, all from Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother William (Marcia), West Des Moines, Iowa; nieces; nephews and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 60 years.

William R. Kelly
William R. “Bill” Kelly, 75, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on January 1, 2021 at home surrounded by family after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
A mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at St. Joseph Church Key West with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Family and friends may gather after 9:00 a.m. at the church until time of mass. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum with military honors by the Dubuque Marine Corps League and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans. A live stream of the funeral mass will be on Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory’s Facebook page. A Celebration of Life gathering will be at a later date when it is safe to hug one another.
Bill was born on May 8, 1945 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Philip and Irene (Kopp) Kelly. He attended St. Mary’s grade school and Wahlert High School prior to enlisting in the US Navy. He served in the Navy from 1962 to 1966 and was honorably discharged with the rank of E4.
He married Joan Ward and together they had two sons, Daniel and Mitch.
Bill worked in various construction trades and started as an apprentice electrician, then for the Dubuque Cable Company; he joined his brother’s company Dubuque Painting & Decorating/Kelly Construction. He later retired from Swiss Colony.
Bill was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and softball with his sons. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. Bill was a member of the American Legion and a former commodore of the Dubuque Boat Club.
He is survived by his two sons Daniel (Carrie) Kelly and Mitch (Julie) Kelly; grandchildren, Shawna (Nick), Yvette (Justin), Chelsea (Peter), Reed, Cooper, Landon and Sawyer. Along with his longtime significant other Carol Bandy and her family. His sister Karen Payne, sister-in-law Alice Kelly along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard “Dick” Kelly, brother-in-law William “Billy” Payne and former wife Joan.
In lieu of flowers a Bill Kelly memorial fund will be established.

Mary Ann Bailes
Mary Ann Bailes, 78, of Dubuque, died Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque.
The Private Family Funeral Service for Mary Ann will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Mount Calvary Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home’s Facebook page and will also be available to view later at www.hskfhcares.com.
Mary Ann was born November 6, 1942, in Dubuque, the daughter of Leo P. and Ruth Bierie Spahn. She married Laurence E. Bailes and they had three children. They later divorced.
She graduated from Wahlert High School in 1961. She attended the former Bayless Business College in Dubuque; graduated from Knoxville Vocational College with her LPN degree; in 1986 she attended (Carti) Central Ark. Technical Institute and received her certificate of Radiation Therapy; in 1992 she received her B.S. in Adult Education from the University of Tennessee; graduated from NICC in 1998 with her RN Degree; and in 2002 She received her Master’s Degree in Administration.
In 1975 she worked at UT Memorial Hospital for 13 years; in 1987 she helped open a cancer center at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center; from 1996 to 1999 she worked at Hills and Dales; from 1999 to 2002 she worked at Stonehill, then she worked at Sunnycrest.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah (Greg) Bailes Vose of Tacoma, WA; one granddaughter, Margaret Vose; two sisters, Jean (Danny) Mayne of Durango, and Susan Gelderman of LaGrange, IL; several nieces and nephews including, Melissa Woodhouse of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Stephen J. Bailes and a daughter, Laurie Ann Bailes.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Patricia Ann Berg
Patricia Ann Berg, 80 of Galena, IL passed away Friday, January 1, 2021, at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community. A private family mass will be held Friday, January 8, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena. Cremation rites will follow the mass and burial will be held later in the church cemetery. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 4, 1940, in Chicago, IL the daughter of Stanley and Sally (Paluch) Ketchmark. When she was a senior at Amundsen High School, she was a soprano in the senior chorus. They were awarded Best Choral Group for the All-City Competition for the city of Chicago, and she later graduated in 1958. Pat loved fashion and modeled in Combined Insurance Fashion Show in 1960, where she worked as an executive secretary.
She was united in marriage to Jack Dennis Ermilio Berg on May 26, 1962, at Transfiguration Church, Chicago and he preceded her in death on November 20, 2020.
Pat loved to garden, being a part of the Galena Garden Walk for many years. She enjoyed cooking and made the best lasagna ever. Pat opened her home to many dogs and cats and enjoyed drinking Earl Grey tea while watching her favorite fox and family of squirrels. She appreciated poetry, traveling, and seeing the beauty in all of God’s creations. Everything was art to her creative imagination. Pat was always there to comfort and care for her three boys, and her greatest gift was teaching her sons how to be loving, caring, and responsible adults. She has always been active in the Catholic Church and in the choir, and in her younger years she spent time preparing students with special needs to receive the sacraments.
She is survived by her three sons, John (Kimberly Molzahn) Berg, Jimmy (Amanda Kevern) Berg and Joseph Berg, four grandsons, Kyle Berg, Nick Berg, Jonathan Berg, and Andrew Berg, three brothers, Stanley (Dorothy) and Tom (Angie) Ketchmark and Robert Aubele and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepdad, Rupert Aubele, her husband, two daughters in infancy, Janet and Jane, grandson Barnard Berg.
