Barbara A. Horn
Barbara Ann (Bloechl) Horn (otherwise known as Momma, Grandma and Aunt Barb), 71, of East Dubuque, IL passed away peacefully Saturday, October 17, 2020 at home surrounded by family.
A private visitation and service will be held Wednesday, October 21st at Galena Bible Church with Pastor Gary Kirst officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery. The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque is serving the family. The funeral will be live-streamed on The Miller Funeral Home Group Facebook page. Face masks and social distancing will be required.
Barbara was born on September, 30, 1949, in Oshkosh, WI daughter of Erwin and Bernice (Robl) Bloechl. Her favorite memories while growing up involved Grandpa George, her siblings, the Point Comfort cabin in Oshkosh, and the family dog, Duchess.
Barbara was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School in 1967 and of Mercy Medical Center School of Nursing in 1970 and became an RN. She was employed at Mercy Hospital in the Surgical Department for 26 years, until her retirement in 2013. Nursing and caring for others was a passion of hers and is where she made many lifelong friendships. After Barbara found herself at odds with the free time she had after retirement she turned to her love of books and a position as a Library Clerk at the East Dubuque Public Library. Working with Jessica and the staff there made her very happy.
Barbara met her husband, Nick Horn in 1994 and they were married at Galena Bible Church in April 1995 where her “three girls” stood up in support of the marriage. Barbara loved being outdoors and after their eldest grandson Tavian was born, Barb, Nick and Tavian enjoyed many camping trips in Wisconsin where they would fish, canoe and enjoy fires. They also enjoyed heading to Madison for an annual trip to see “Kites On Ice”. In her later years, Barbara enjoyed studying butterflies and fishing with her grandsons, Jackson and Josiah, as well as travelling to Brookfield to watch them play basketball and baseball. Halloween was Barbara’s favorite holiday as her vast collection of masks and wigs can attest to.
Those left to cherish Barbara’s memory include her husband Nick of 25 years; her daughters Katie (Schuster) Von Rox, Sara (Schuster) Holmes and her husband Courtney; her grandchildren Tavian Schuster and Jackson and Josiah Holmes; her siblings Georgia (Les) Johns, Chuck (Christine) Bloechl, Julie (Kevin) Kriebs and Martha Smith (Joseph Mulgrew).
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rachel Renee Schuster, her parents, brother in law, Steve Smith, her niece Jennifer Johns, her father in law, Nickson Horn, and sister in law, Irene Orth.
The family would like to thank Chris and Stacy from Hospice of Dubuque, and special friend, Carla Johnson for their care of Barbara.

Family and community were always of utmost importance in his life; he especially enjoyed being Uncle Pete to his many nieces and nephews. Kevin M. Vaughn
Kevin M. Vaughn, age 58, of Dubuque, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on October 14, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, in the loving arms of his wife, Kathy. To honor Kevin’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Happy’s Place, 2323 Rockdale Road in Dubuque. Full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League at 1:00 p.m., followed by a prayer and remembrance moment. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Kevin’s family.
Kevin was born on December 14, 1961, in Dubuque, Iowa, one of three children to Jay and Norma (Nurre) Vaughn. Kevin has spent most of his life in the Dubuque area and learned very quickly the value of being surrounded by family and friends. After graduating from high school, he proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he honorably served his country and gained the skills he would use to later provide for his family. Upon completing his duty, Kevin spent a few years in the security department at Target, before finally taking the plunge and moving into the field of auto mechanics for the remainder of his working career. He spent the majority of his years with Addoco, and lastly with Premier Tool and Die before chronic health issues eventually made their way into his life. Kevin always made his best attempt to find balance between work and play and found some of his most joyful moments to be discovered in the great outdoors. Deer and pheasant hunting were definitely at the top of his list, but an afternoon out on the boat, or working in the garden would also suffice. He also enjoyed the fellowship of friends whenever possible and holding the position of Exalted Ruler for 2 terms at the Elk’s Lodge was surely a way to make that happen. Kevin’s primary goal in life was to embrace it whenever possible and hopefully bring a smile to the faces of all who knew and loved him. His medical battles had sadly taken a toll on Kevin’s daily life, but his spirit never surrendered to their continued assault. We find ourselves in a place today which we would give anything to change, but we also trust and know that Kevin’s soul now resides in eternal peace, free from the earthly confines which plagued him so. We will love, miss, and treasure every moment and memory we possess moving forward. May the loving grace of the Lord be yours, Kevin, until we meet again.
Those left behind to cherish the memory of Kevin include,
his loving wife of 35 years,
Katherine “Kathy” Vaughn, Dubuque, Iowa;
his son,
Kevin Michael Vaughn, Dubuque, Iowa;
his mother,
Norma (Dale Budde) Vaughn, Dubuque, Iowa;

and Laura Christensen, Minneapolis, Minnesota;
his mother-in-law,
Phyllis Naumann, Dubuque, Iowa;
his brothers and sisters-in-law,
Mary Schneider, Hazel Green, Wisconsin,
Eugene (Sherri) Naumann, Hanover, Illinois,
Marvin (Michelle) Naumann, Baltimore, Maryland,
Mike (Karri) Naumann, Orlando, Florida,

Randy (Amy) Naumann, Peosta, Iowa,
and Janet Naumann, Cedar Rapids, Iowa;

Kevin’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Iowa for all of their professional and compassionate care of Kevin and his family. Also, a very sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of our family and friends who have helped us navigate these most difficult days. Linda was born on February 13, 1946, in Scales Mound, Illinois, daughter of Albertus “Bert” and Calista (Koehler) Glasker.
Linda graduated from Scales Mound High School, Class of 1964. She was previously married and had 2 wonderful children before going their separate ways. Linda would later meet Marvin “Mick” Brimeyer, and they would marry on February 7, 2003, at Jorga’s Restaurant in Dubuque, and spend the next 17 years together. Linda was always a hard worker and would devote 28 years with Hodge Company as an account manager. In her younger years, Linda enjoyed going dancing at the Palace in Galena with all of her friends. Most recently she liked to spend time bowling, watching old Western tv shows and Chicago White Sox games, traveling, camping, fishing, and occasionally trying her luck at the casino on the slot machines. She looked forward to visits from her family, and especially loved spending time with the grandchildren. Linda had a great love of her four legged canine friends, especially her beloved Lola and Buddy, and her feline friend, Tuffy. She also cared for the outside animals and faithfully made sure her feathered friends were well fed all winter. We are heartbroken at the loss of such a wonderful, caring woman in our daily lives, but we take some comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and free of all of the health challenges she has faced so bravely these past months.
