Allen L. McCloy

Allen L. McCloy, 83, of Monmouth, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 22, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at 11 A.M., Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday, December 27, 2021, at Carson’s.  Burial will be at the Monmouth, Iowa, Cemetery.

Allen Lee McCloy was born on March 19, 1938, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to William Sr. and Bernice (Risden) McCloy.  He was one of nine children and grew up in the Iron Hill area.  He married Charlotte Ann Behrend on November 17, 1963, in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Allen worked at Swiss Valley Farms in Maquoketa in the maintenance department for over 40 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his daughters, grandkids, nieces, and nephews.  Family was important and he was always eager to help anyone that needed it.

Allen started playing steel guitar at age 9 and was in area bands his whole life.  Some of those bands included The Country Ramblers, The String Dusters, The Country Drifters, Joe & the Ridgerunners, Radio Flyer, and The Big House Band.  In 1995, Radio Flyer won the Battle of the Bands at the Silvis Country Music Festival in the Quad Cities.  Al was the “heart and soul of the band”.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Charlotte McCloy of Anamosa, IA; daughters, Lanette (Kelly) Peavey of Shenandoah, IA, and LeeAnn (Jon) Reiss of Anamosa, IA; 5 grandchildren, Lee, Drew, Kinnick, Carver and Everett; 2 step-grandchildren, Ashly and T; a brother, Larry (Liz) McCloy of Maquoketa, IA; and a sister, Rachel McCloy of DeWitt, IA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
