Alvin H. Nerney
Alvin H. Nerney, 88, of Maquoketa, Iowa, formerly of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Jackson Ridge Care Center in Maquoketa.
Visitation for Alvin will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. on Friday, April 4th at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial for Alvin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Basilica St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, Iowa, with Rev. Philip Agyei presiding. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville at a later date.
Alvin was born November 17, 1936 in Hammond, Indiana, son of Francis and Violet (Johnson) Nerney. He received is education from in the Hammond, Indiana schools. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict.
In 1960, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Scherer. She preceded him in death on May 15, 1986. On November 17, 1987 he was united in marriage to Diane Soppe in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was a traveling engineer consultant and enjoyed his job. He also like learning all about History, and the companionship of his dogs.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Nerney of Maquoketa; three daughters, Kathy (John) Bucciferro of Bettendorf, Jennifer (Tony) Luna of Corsicana, TX, and Emily (Justin) Candler of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Nerney of Dyersville; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters in laws, George (Connie) Helle of Anamosa, Carol Oberbroeckling, Doris Soppe, and Debbie Steger all of Dyersville, Dave Holz of Dubuque, and Leo (Donna) Soppe of Cascade.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Nerney on October 14, 2023; two brothers, Jerold Nerney, and Robert Nerney; two sisters, Francis Nerney, and LaRue Nerney; his brother and sisters-in-laws, Louis (Jeri) Soppe, Loras (Erma) Soppe) Andy Soppe, John Steger, Beverly Holz, and Bill Oberbroeckling.
