Ardith “Ardie” Kohn-Peterson, 87, of Dubuque, died Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Bethany Home in Dubuque.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Ardith was born February 10, 1936, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Wilmer and Mildred Arthofer Atkinson. She was united in marriage to John Kohn on May 12, 1956 in Dubuque. She later married Duane Peterson on January 28, 1995 in Dubuque.

Ardie enjoyed traveling, sewing, decorating, especially with English garden art, and gardening, but those who knew her knew she mostly enjoyed pulling weeds. She volunteered for many years at Bethany Home as the “Popcorn Lady.” Above all, Ardie was a proud, loving, and protective mom of her boys. She would do anything she could to help her boys and their families.

Survivors include her three sons, Michael Kohn, David (Linda) Kohn, and Joseph (Deb) Kohn, all of Dubuque; two grandsons, Jonathan Kohn and Jason Kohn, both of Dubuque; one sister, Mary Severson of Dubuque; and one brother, Jon Atkinson of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former husbands; sister, Jane Davis; and brother, Wilmer “Bill” Atkinson.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Hospice of Dubuque and all of the staff at Bethany Home for their loving care and compassion.
