Barbara J. Glasgow-Burroughs
Barbara J. Glasgow-Burroughs, 86, of Galena, IL, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the Midwest Senior Care Community in Galena.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 4, 2024 at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where family and friends may call after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Rev. Jim McCrea will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.
Barb was born on November 6, 1937 in Galena, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Sertle) Harris. She was united in marriage to Foster D. “Junior” Glasgow on May 11, 1957 at First Presbyterian Church in Galena. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1983. She later married William D. “Bill” Burroughs on March 14, 1987 at St. Francis De Sales Church in Hazel Green, WI. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2015.
Barb was a graduate of Galena High School, the class of 1951. Right out of high school she was employed as a phone operator at Illinois Bell. She then went to work at Galena-Stauss Hospital, Jo Daviess County Health Dept., the Owner’s Club at the Galena Territory, Honest John’s with her grandson Kevin, and Country Cast.
As a kid she was known as “Bootsie”. Later in life we called her “Busy Barb” because she could never sit still. If you drove on Dodge St., you could always find her with a broom or a rake in her hand. Or you might catch her taking a break sitting on the porch with a smile and a wave. Barb was one of the kindest souls you could meet. If it made a difference she’d give a stranger, her last nickel. She loved playing the slots, she may have come home with less in her pocket, but she always had a great time.
Surviving are four children, Steve (Vickie) Glasgow of Dubuque, IA, Kevin (Michelle) Glasgow of Verona, WI, Sharon (friend Rod) Mootz of Bettendorf, IA, and Susan Moritz Kincaid (Allen) of Denver, CO; two step-children Michael (Karla) Burroughs of Kaukauna, WI, and Michele (Bill) Berning of Hazel Green, WI; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog Bella.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Junior and Bill, a grandson, Jacob Glasgow, her siblings, Donald, Cletus “Todd”, Morris and Harold Harris, Charlotte Hatfield, Ardith Schick, and Edith Wetter.
Barb’s family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mary Koenigs, the nurses and staff at Midwest Senior Care Community, and Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care given to their mother.
