Barbara J. Robey

Barbara J. (Hoag) Robey, age 80, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

Family and friends may call from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, IL. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Barb was born on December 11, 1945 in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Virgil V. and Lorraine M. (Hillery) Hoag.

Barb met the love of her life, Gary Brillhart and they enjoyed over 50 years together. Together they loved taking rides in his classic cars and attending car shows with family. Barb spent countless hours doing puzzles. She enjoyed movies, westerns and soap operas. Barb loved classic country music, although her most favorite entertainer was Elvis Presley. Barb cherished holidays spent with family. Barb and Gary’s newest passion was their dog Dolly, named after Dolly Parton.

In her early years, Barb worked at the Holiday Inn, and later for the Metrix Company from where she retired.

Surviving is her husband, Gary Brillhart of East Dubuque, IL; their son, Gary (Angie) Robey of East Dubuque, IL; grandchildren, Tyler Robey and Kristin (Joshua) Merritt and great-grandchildren, Theodore and Lillian Merritt of Dubuque, IA.

Barb’s children, Randy Robey, Carl Robey, Elmer Robey, Troy Robey and daughter, Kerry Robey; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; siblings, Duke (Vickie) Eppler and Thomas Eppler; sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Ann Hoag; sisters-in-law, Diane (David) Birch, Sharon (Gerald) Fransen, Debra Walzer and brother-in-law, Rick (Carleen) Brillhart.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Lorraine, her mother-in-law, Maureen Brillhart; siblings, Sharon Billmeyer Ahlers, Frederick “Fred” Hoag, and Dennis “Denny” Hoag.

In lieu of flowers a Barbara J. Robey memorial fund has been established.
