Betty J. Haverland
Betty J. Haverland, 80, of St. Catherine, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Hawkeye Care Center.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, at Church of the Nativity, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Stephen Audu will officiate. Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is entrusted with arrangements.
Betty was born March 9, 1944 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Mary (Costello) Schlegel. She graduated from Visitation Academy. On July 31, 1965, she married Richard Haverland at Church of Nativity. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Betty was employed at Flexsteel for 40 years. Betty loved taking trips to Branson, MO with Richard since 1971, attending live shows and trout fishing. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and was able to see them play at Wrigley Field one last time this past summer. She enjoyed spending time with her best friends, Jewell Schroll and Bea Buelow. Betty loved being a part of her grandkids lives. She was an amazing and beautiful human who spent her entire life caring for and raising up those around her, and she is going to be missed beyond measure.
Betty is survived by her husband, Richard, of St. Catherine; her son Scott (Dawn) Haverland, of Potosi, WI and their children, Elliot Haverland and Emily (Tyler) Bode; her son Doug (Tricia) Haverland, of Dubuque; her son Jeff (Amy) Haverland, of Dubuque, and their children, Jack (fiancé Catie Brosius) Haverland, and Anna Haverland; her sister, Sally Schlegel Kressin, of Lake Mills, WI; her sister-in-law, Lois Schlegel, of Connecticut; her brothers-in-law, Wayne Haverland, of AZ, Bob (Jan) Haverland, of Massey Station, Terry “Louie” (Mary) Haverland, of Key West, IA, Dave (Jean) Bauer, of Asbury; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Katherine Schlegel; two brothers, Richard and George Schlegel; her brother-in-law, Dick Kressin; two sisters-in-law, Sue Bauer and Joyce Haverland; and three nephews, Wayne Haverland Jr., Mark Schlegel, and Gary Schlegel.
The family is truly thankful for Dr. Angela Kelley and the amazing people working at Hawkeye Care and Hospice of Dubuque for the love and support they showed Betty during her time with them.
