Carol J. Bliss
Carol J. Bliss, 78, of Andrew, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, May 14, 2026, at home.
Carol Jeanne Graves was born on June 23, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa, to Robert and Thelma (Pape) Graves. She grew up in Baldwin and was a 1966 graduate of Maquoketa High School. She married Ronald F. “Ron” Bliss on April 3, 1966 in Andrew, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Alan, Kim, and Chad.
She was a homemaker for much of her life and, early on, worked for a short time as a cook for the Andrew Community School District. She lived her life with grace and humility, always placing the needs of her family before her own.
Carol enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought comfort and happiness to her days. She liked doing puzzles, crocheting, cross stitch, and playing cards, especially Euchre. She also enjoyed some fishing and was an avid collector of gnomes and snowmen.
Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She especially loved following the events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she found great joy in being present for the milestones and everyday moments that made up their lives. She was a strong and selfless woman who never wanted to be a burden to anyone, and she faced life’s challenges with courage and dignity.
Those left to honor her memory include children, Alan (Lisa) Bliss of Andrew, IA, and Kim (Troy) Hingtgen of Andrew, IA; 3 grandchildren, Ashlee Hingtgen, Ryan Hingtgen and Cale Hingtgen; 2 great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Kamryn; in-laws, James and Cindy Bliss, and Diane and Rick Gerischer; and nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald on March 29, 2018, infant son Chad Ronald Bliss, and a sister Mavis (Donald) Jackson.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Andrew, IA Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Carol J. Bliss memorial fund has been established.
