Charlene Kraus, 92, of Dubuque, died on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:00 am on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Charlene will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Dennis Quint as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Charlene was born on May 27, 1932, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Peter and Doris (Sackmaster) Oppelt. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1952. On May 9, 1953, she married John H. Kraus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2009.

Charlene worked as the Supervisor in the Medical Records Department at Medical Associates for 42 years.

Charlene was a member of the Rosary Society at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She had a passion for collecting and reading cook books, as well as cooking and sharing that with family and friends. Charlene was always a compassionate caregiver to family and friends whenever they needed her by their side.

Survivors include her sister, Lois Weidemann of Dubuque; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Oppelt and Diann Oppelt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Charlene was preceded in death by her son, David; seven siblings, Peter, Margaret, John, Robert, Lorraine Strief, Carl, and Carol Schueller; and four in-laws, Josephine Oppelt, Darrell Strief, LeRoy Weidemann, and Jerry Schueller.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Veterans Freedom Center.
