Charles L. Peters, Jr., 82, of East Dubuque, IL, formerly of Galena, IL, passed away at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center on Thursday, January 1, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Family & friends may call from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Bosco Aruldoss officiating. Burial will be later at St. Michael Cemetery in Galena, IL.

Charlie was born on July 17, 1943 in Galena, IL, the son of Charles and Marcella (Powers) Peters.

Charlie retired from the Galena Middle School as their night janitor. He loved his 1956 Chevy and his 1932 Hupmobile and enjoyed going to car shows.

He is survived by his son, James (Marcia), of Galena; his grandchildren, Michael (Samantha) of Florida, Ashley (Alex) Kirton of Dubuque, IA, April, River, James and Austin of Galena, his great-grandchildren, Brayden, Emmalyn, Grayson of Florida, and Athylia of Dubuque, IA, his beloved Ali and Shelli of East Dubuque, his sister, Karen Freese of Menominee, IL, his dear friend, Billy Grassel and his ex-wife Jeanne (Hayes) Peters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marcella and his brother, Bill Peters.
