To celebrate Chase’s life family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m., on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. There will be a service with sharing held at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Born at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque on August 31, 2000, to parents Dale and Ginny Manemann, Chase was raised and grew to adulthood in a large and loving family. As a child, his greatest joys included spending time with his cousins, exploring the field and forest at the Pape-Bahl family cottage, racing through the water and adventure parks on the annual trip to the Wisconsin Dells, and skateboarding along the Chole Creek Trail. Chase possessed a keen but restless intelligence, he was fascinated by the world around him. He loved pulling appliances apart to figure out what made them tick, and his lifelong interests in welding and electricity grew out of this active mind that was always searching to learn the hows and the whys of the world. As a young adult, he graduated from the Alternative Learning Center and Hempstead Senior High School in 2019, where he participated in the Soccer, Football, and Wrestling teams. During this time he worked at Sunnycrest Manor, where he made lifelong friendships with the residents he supported and who, he took pains to visit even years after he left. In 2023, he earned his Associate’s degree in Industrial Maintenance from Northeast Iowa Community College, a feat for which he was immensely proud. He loved music and attending live concerts, playing video games and lifting weights with his friends. Chase was unapologetically himself: a young man with a fierce sense of social justice, who felt deeply for friends and strangers alike. His ability to pull out a profound phrase at the right moment underscored a deep empathy and a genuine heart.
Chase struggled with his health and his most profound battle was with schizophrenia. He was very open about this diagnosis and the barriers and stigma it produced. But he fought, every day, to overcome both physical and mental ailments and he spent the last several years of his life a victor. His mind was fully his and his old loves resurfaced. The curious, witty boy became a great man of unparalleled kindness. His experiences with both mental and physical diseases did not make him kind- it was his natural inclination towards good that allowed him to bear those trials with a strength of will that few possess. It was also this that sparked his interest in the human mind, and, like the appliances of his childhood, Chase devoted his time to learning everything there was to know about the human mind: how did it all work? Why did his mind work the way that it did?
He loved all animals, especially his dogs, Posey, Daisy, Amira and Gaia and his cats, Squeaky “Toni” and Cleo aka “the devil cat”.
Chase is survived by his devoted parents, Dale and Ginny, of Dubuque, his sister Michelle, maternal grandmother Mary Kay Bahl of Asbury, and paternal grandfather Jim Manemann of Dubuque. He was dearly loved by his extended family, paternal uncles Michael (Juanita) Manemann, Mark (Vicky) Manemann, Danny Manemann, Dean (Diane) Manemann all of Dubuque, and maternal uncles Roger (Jennifer) Bahl, Jamie (Theresa Valentine) Bahl, of Dubuque, and maternal aunts Sandra Bahl of Dubuque and Jody (Jeff) Unsen of Marion, IA. His network stretched far and wide, with his 17 first cousins and their spouses and children, great-aunts and great-uncles, and dear friends, including Dylan and Nic. Special cousins include Joseph Bahl, Matthew Bahl, Lucas Unsen, and Alex Manemann.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Debra Manemann, maternal grandfather, Roger W. Bahl, and two brothers: Shane Roger Manemann and Seth Axl Manemann.
May you remember Chase for his clever sense of humor, his Wikipedia-sized knowledge of the neurotransmitters, his kindness, and his abiding love for those he knew and those he was never able to meet.
Special thanks to the extensive village that supported Chase: foremost, the ACT team at Hillcrest, including Jessica Dunne, and his peer support network. He often expressed his gratitude towards his former child psychologist, Dr. Kuperman at the University of Iowa Hospital. Thank you to his friends, old and new, who cared and loved him.
A Chase Manemann Memorial Fund has been established to assist with Chase’s funeral services and support his favorite charities. https://giveahand.com/fundraiser/chase-manemann-unexpected-passing-no-life-insurance
